☆Bits of knowledge〜Ninna-ji 〜
Ninnaji (仁和寺) is one of the many great temples in Kyoto which are listed as World Heritage Sites. It is the head temple of the Omuro School of the Shingon sect of Buddhism and was founded in 888 by the reigning emperor. Over many centuries, a member of the Imperial Family used to serve as Ninnaji's head priest, and the temple was also known as Omuro Imperial Palace.
Due to the many wars and fires that ravaged Kyoto throughout its history, none of the buildings from the temple's foundation in the 9th century still survive. The oldest buildings date back to the beginning of the Edo Period in the early 1600s, including the main hall (Kondo), the Kannon Hall, the Niomon front gate, the Chumon inner gate and the five storied pagoda.

You must have heard of Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto, which is a famous sightseeing spot among people from all over the world. Senbon Torii in the picture above attracts travelers and its name literally means thousands of vermilion torii gates. It gets you in the world of Japanese mystery.
There might be people who are going to Tokyo but don’t have the time or money to go all the way down to Kyoto. Well, here’s a spot just for you here in Tokyo.
There is a shine in Tokyo that gives you the same mysterious atmosphere as Fushimi Inari Taisha without visiting Kyoto. It is called Hanazonoinari Shrine inside Ueno Park

TOKYO DAY 6 - ASAKUSA TEMPLE AND SAKURA AT UENO PARK
This day was rainy and wet and I walked around looking like a big troll with the large jacket and a cap, haha. I tasted SO MUCH delicious japanese sweets. I drooled while editing this video. It was really nice to visit temples and the Ueno park. Even tho I was TWO WEEKS to late for the sakura blossoms. I cried so much cause it was THE reason why I wanted to go to Japan in April. Oh well. At least I got to see one tree.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Idea:
In a visit to home for the aged few years ago, I heard an elderly lady telling me a story which killing her softly. She has been fighting for life when she was young. She was busy at work every day and has never traveled anywhere. She now always wanted to go vacation as her friends always tell her that Japan is a very interesting and beautiful place. Although she is already over seventy year old and still healthy, she doesn’t have enough money for vacation. After a volunteer lady knew her story, that lady made her a Japanese photo album which deeply touched by her thoughtfulness.
Today, I have the idea of doing YOUTUBE, thinking about what kind of channel I should start. As I love to travel, just make a traveling record channel! This idea reminds me the old lady in the home for aged and her story has given me more meaning to do this YOUTUBE channel.

Daitokuji is a functioning Rinzai Zen temple complex in northwest Kyoto.
The Daitokuji compound is a city within walls made up of 24 sub-temples, eight of which are open to the public. Of particular note are the small sub-temples Daisen-in and Koto-in for their lovely, though small, gardens. Koto-in is known for its spectacular red maples in autumn.

MUSLIMS TRY FIRST MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANT IN TOKYO JAPAN Day 3: Asakusa Sensoji & Shibuya
Salaam everyone! We hope you enjoy our travel vlog about our first Michelin star restaurant experience in Tokyo, Japan.
The rain finally stopped, so Sarah and I got to spend the entire day exploring Tokyo and all the amazing food it has to offer.
Our hotel was located next to the Yamanote green line that is run by JR trains, which allow you to use the subway in Tokyo to get to all the main areas like Asakusa, Shibuyya, Shinjuku, Shimbashi etc.
Breakfast is not a big thing in Japan, but we managed to find some really tasty pastries to start our day. We visited the Sensoji Shrine at Asakusa district which was a lot of fun. Great shopping, food, and sights to see. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and they are everywhere! We recommend visiting Asakusa and checking out the Sensoji shrine and sample all the street food.
After we got hungry, we found Halal Ramen! This is great, because as muslims we eat halal meat (Chicken and beef etc). We love ramen and we wanted to make sure we got to try it in Japan.
The Halal Ramen place is called, Naritaya Ramen. Located in Asakusa beside the Sensoji Temple shrine, so it is very convenient. The restaurant makes halal chicken ramen and it was delicious. Muslims can also have a spot to pray in the restaurant as well.
After we had some delicious ramen we wanted to see more of Tokyo and we ended up in Shibuya, the time square of Tokyo.
Shibuya is famous for the Shibuya crossing where you can cross the street in any direction with hundreds of other people. Really fun and cool experience, definitely recommend it. Also, Shibuya is a great place to shop, there are a lot of nice clothing stores and boutique stores that cater to young people.
Use the Yamanote Green line to get to Shibuya station. Shibuya is also close to Harajuku and Yoyogi park which is where we decided to go next.
Yoyogi park is huge and is famous for the amazing Meiji Shrine as well as having a really fun park and hanami or cherry blossom parties. A lot of street performers and entertainment are located at Yoyogi park. This is a must for a great cherry blossom experience and it's close to Harajuku and Shibuya making it convenient to get to.
Finally, Sarah and I got to try our first Michelin star restaurant in Tokyo called, Hashimoto. Which specializes in Unagi or Eel.
We are huge foodies and Japan is has the most Michelin star restaurants in the world, making it a great place to find cheap Michelin star restaurants to try. Hashimoto only serves BBQ eel or unagi which tasted amazing and was inexpensive! Your hotel can make reservations for you, we made our reservation a few days in advance.
We were the last customers for the day, and make sure you come before the last call. Many restaurants will have a closing time and a last call time to order food and if you arrive after the last call you will not be able to make an order.
Unagi is a delicacy and the chef made it taste like heaven! He BBQ the unagi eel and coated it with an amazing soy sauce. The rice absorbed all the juice and tasted like butter!
We had a great time there and the chef came out to speak with us which was very nice of him.
Y&S rating is Yusuf and Sarah rating that we came up with to review food based on taste, creativity, skill, service, and execution. The rating is out of 5 and it is really tough to get a 5 rating. So far the 1 Michelin star we rated is a 4.7 out of 5, because eel is difficult to make taste that amazin. He also perfectly cooked the eel and combined great flavors in the sauce and rice.

TOKYO ✖ JAPAN VLOG 25: arcade binge in Shinjuku! final day in Japan!
Hiiiiii guys! It's finally time for the final Tokyo vlog! This is a final combination of our last two days in Japan, where we spent the last full day tying up loose ends, visiting the places we wanted and just relaxing and getting to play the arcade games that we wanted to for ages! We played Taiko No Tatsujin (a lot!) and even some Tsum Tsum! Then we finished the day after packing at Yakitori no Meimon - one of our favourites at Nakano. Two weeks was definitely enough time for us after visiting Tokyo on so many occasions, I'm definitely ready to see more of Japan on my next trip!
It feels like forever since I started these Tokyo vlogs but's been fantastic! I loved looking through these memories again, and if by some crazy chance you've stuck around this whole time and watched everything then - THANK YOU! That's madness! I can't wait to upload more Japan content for you guys (an excuse to go back.. errr... for research) but the next series I'm super excited about is Hong Kong and Seoul! We spent 1 week in each city, and you'll see some new faces too - our old flatmates! It's going to be fun so please do stick around.
Until next time guys! Ja ne~!

Japan Vacation September 2015
This year, William and I spent a week exploring Japan. Specifically visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, Ito, and Yokosuka. We had an unforgettable time while in Japan. The Japanese people are some of the most welcoming and generous people we have met. Getting from A to B was difficult at first, but our Japan Rail pass was definitely a saving grace, considering we didn't have to worry about buying tickets to go places, and basically hopping on a train to get anywhere in Tokyo, including the Shinkansen (bullet train) to get around the country.
We began our trip at Tokyo Ryokan (Near Taito), a traditional Japanese family inn. It was very nice and the inn keepers were exceptionally hospitable, talking to us about what our plans were, and giving us suggestions on where we should eat, what we should see, and tips on getting around. It was very close to Asakusa, and the Senso-Ji shrine. The Tokyo Ryokan is also in a quieter neighborhood of Tokyo if you would like to get away from the noise. The inn is right in the middle of a kitchen supply store district. We stopped by the chopstick gallery and bought ourselves some nice chop sticks to take home.
We took the Takaido Shinkhansen to Kyoto from Tokyo, which is about 2 hours of travel. Kyoto was definitely our favorite spot. The first night we searched for the local sake breweries, but by the time we arrived they were all closed. We then roamed Fushimi neighborhood in search for dinner. We found our way into a local restaurant, (distinguishing restaurants from homes was sometimes very difficult), which began a dining adventure. Not one of the servers could speak english, and the menu was completely in Japanese. However, with perseverance from our more than helpful servers and assistance from Google Translate, we were able to eat dinner. What an experience that was.
While in Kyoto we took a 3 hour long bento box cooking class at Cooking Sun. This was so much fun! The class had 3 other couples that all spoke english as well, and the teachers were full of joy and excitement to teach us Japanese cooking techniques. After the cooking class we toured the city with Urban Adventures, on a walking tour with our guide Taren. The tour was also another highlight of our trip in Japan. Taren toured us throughout Kyoto, seeing sights ranging from temples, monasteries, shrines, other historic sites, and the geisha district, Gion. We learned and saw so much on this tour, and Taren was very patient with my bombardment of questions that rarely ceased. He even suggested a guided us to a restaurant after the tour was over. A+ Taren, great job!
After Kyoto, we headed to the beach town called Ito. There we went to the Seaside Spa to experience our first Onsen (Japanese hot spring). Traveling to Ito was a nice experience because the train travels along the coast, and you can see the ocean/small towns/jungle areas all at once.
Once we arrived back in Tokyo, we headed to a baseball game at Jingu Stadium. The home team was the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, and they hosted the Yokahama Baystars. This baseball game was an experience I will never forget. We arrived at the game to a band and chanting fans as the players warmed up. Everyone was so excited, wearing their baseball jerseys, and baseball hats. Dads taking their kids out for the night, eating some concession stand ramen, and cheering on their favorite players. This stadium was full of joy. Every player up to bat, had their own cheer that the crowd chanted during their time at bat. The Swallows had their own fight song and victory songs. And whenever the team scored a run, everyone opened up their umbrellas, and in sync, pumped them in the air, singing and cheering for the team. William and I had so much fun experiencing America's favorite pastime, with such enthusiastic company.
For our last stop in Japan, we made our way down to Yokosuka to meet our friend Emily who is a Navy Corpsman. There we ate at a sushi conveyer belt restaurant, and sang karaoke with her friends in our own personal room.
In all, our trip to Japan was absolutely fabulous. I can not say enough about the Japanese people and their hospitality. This was a trip I will always remember, and I just hope we will be able to go back again one day!
