SCS CONFLICT : China is completely surrounded by strong International Navies of India, Japan and US
Japan plans to send largest warship to South China Sea
Japan plans to dispatch its largest warship on a three-month tour through the South China Sea beginning in May, three sources said, in its biggest show of naval force in the region since World War Two.
China claims almost all the disputed waters and its growing military presence has fuelled concern in Japan and the West, with the United States holding regular air and naval patrols to ensure freedom of navigation.
The Izumo helicopter carrier, commissioned only two years ago, will make stops in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Sri Lanka before joining the Malabar joint naval exercise with Indian and U.S. naval vessels in the Indian Ocean in July. It will return to Japan in August, the sources said.
“The aim is to test the capability of the Izumo by sending it out on an extended mission,” said one of the sources who have knowledge of the plan. “It will train with the U.S. Navy in the South China Sea,” he added, asking not to be identified because he is not authorized to talk to the media.
A spokesman for Japan's Maritime Self Defence Force declined to comment.
Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brunei also claim parts of the sea which has rich fishing grounds, oil and gas deposits and through which around $5 trillion of global sea-borne trade passes each year.
Japan does not have any claim to the waters, but has a separate maritime dispute with China in the East China Sea.
Japan wants to invite Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who has pushed ties with China in recent months as he has criticised the old alliance with the United States, to visit the Izumo when it visits Subic Bay, about 100 km (62 miles) west of Manila, another of the sources said.
Japan's flag-flying operation comes as the United States under President Donald Trump appears to be taking a tougher line with China. Washington has criticized China's construction of man-made islands and a build-up of military facilities that it worries could be used to restrict free movement.
Beijing in January said it had “irrefutable” sovereignty over the disputed islands after the White House vowed to defend “international territories”.
The 249 metre-long (816.93 ft) Izumo is as large as Japan's World War Two-era carriers and can operate up to nine helicopters. It resembles the amphibious assault carriers used by U.S. Marines, but lacks their well deck for launching landing craft and other vessels.
Japan in recent years, particularly under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, has been stretching the limits of its post-war, pacifist constitution. It has designated the Izumo as a destroyer because the constitution forbids the acquisition of offensive weapons. The vessel, nonetheless, allows Japan to project military power well beyond its territory.
Based in Yokosuka, near to Tokyo, which is also home to the U.S. Seventh Fleet's carrier, the Ronald Reagan, the Izumo's primary mission is anti-submarine warfare.

The second team of F 35B fighter aircraft Landing in Japan in the vertical landing mode.
F35 replaces 12 FA18 battle attack aircraft deployed at Iwakuni base and 8 AV8 Harrier attack aircraft. Ten planes will be deployed this month and six aircraft will be deployed in August, the base will increase by about 130 people. It is also operated as a shipboard machine of the amphibious assault ship Wasp deployed in the autumn in Sasebo Base (Nagasaki Prefecture), and also carries out flight training in Okinawa Prefecture. It seems that it will also fly to Yokota base (Tokyo) and others.
The deployment of F35 in Japan is part of the strategy focused on Asia of the US military who sees China, which is activating military activities in North Korea and the East and South China Sea, which repeats provocation. Deployed is B type of Marine Corps specification of F35 which can take off and landing vertically.
“Did China ask us if it was OK to carry out a number of actions such as build up disputed islands in the South China Sea or take economic measures hurtful to the United States,” Trump tweeted.
Does China have asked us that they devalue the local currency (US companies make it difficult to compete), high tariffs against US products imported into the country (in the US not taxing them) or a combination of military construction in the middle of the South China Sea ... get it? I think not! Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter.
A Chinese Navy ship stole a U.S. Navy unmanned underwater vehicle — a type of drone — from international waters in the South China on Thursday, according to the Pentagon.
The gliders stopped dead in the water as they awaited recovery by the USS Bowditch, an oceanographic research vessel. A Chinese ship that was already shadowing the Bowditch swooped in and unlawfully retrieved one of the gliders.
There were multiple attempts at bridge to bridge communication to demand the Chinese give the glider back. The Chinese acknowledged the call but said that they were returning to normal operations, ignored requests to return the glider and left the area.
This is an action that's not in keeping with international law, Pentagon spokesperson Captain Jeff Davis said on Friday.
When the Chinese eventually agreed to return the vessel, Trump reacted on Twitter again. “We should tell China that we don’t want the drone they stole back.- let them keep it!” he wrote.
An international court handed down a decision that pointed a finger at the unjustness of Beijing’s self-serving actions and statements related to its territorial claims in the South China Sea.
Regarding the so-called nine-dash line - based on which China claims sovereignty - the arbitration court said there was no legal basis for China to claim historic rights. The court also said there was no evidence that China had historically exercised exclusive control over the resources and waters.
The international court further concluded that China was not entitled to an exclusive economic zone for the artificial islands it has constructed in the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.

Asked during a news conference about his view on the warship visit, Duterte said, without elaborating, I have invited all of them.
He added: It is international passage, the South China Sea is not our territory, but it is part of our entitlement.
On whether he would visit the warship at Subic Bay, Duterte said: If I have time.

Typhoon Faxai heading for Japan as England prepare for extreme weather at Rugby World Cup
The typhoon that is sweeping its way across Asia looks set to cause disruption in Japan - and England head coach Eddie Jones has revealed that he has put contingency plans in place to deal with it. Typhoon Faxai moved its way northwest towards eastern Japan over the Pacific on Saturday and Japan's Meteorological Agency warned that it is set to hit Tokyo as early as Sunday night. The Rugby World Cup is less than two weeks away with England due to fly out to Kanto on Sunday and the season's 15th typhoon is expected to reach the coast of the region by Monday morning. The current typhoon has been clocked with wind speeds of up to 180 kilometres-per-hour. But tournament organisers revealed that they have planned for such an occurrence with the possibility of relocating teams from their bases and, in some cases, moving matches to different venues. Speaking after England's dominant 37-0 victory over Italy, Jones said: It's going to affect the World Cup, there's no doubt about it. You've just got to ride with it, be adaptable and work out how you can cope with the situation. Once the typhoon comes, you just can't go outside. It's basically a lock-down. It can vary between being very violent to quite mild. The issue is you can't go outside but we've got ideas of what we do if a typhoon stopped us training outdoors. We'll train on artificial turf indoors. Luckily for England, their opening two games against Tonga in Sapporo and the US in Kobe have roofs. England boss Jones spent long periods living in Japan and was the head coach of the national side from 2012 to 2015.

SUMMARY
=======
Yokohama (Japanese: 横浜, Hepburn: Yokohama, pronounced [jokohama] (listen)) is the second largest city in Japan by population, and the most populous municipality of Japan. It is the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture. It lies on Tokyo Bay, south of Tokyo, in the Kantō region of the main island of Honshu. It is a major commercial hub of the Greater Tokyo Area.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has once again pledged the Trump administration's commitment to defending its allies in Asia from North Korea and any other threats.
Speaking to U.S. and Japanese troops on board the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier Wednesday, he called North Korea the most urgent and dangerous threat to the peace and security of the Asia-Pacific region.
He said that under President Donald Trump, the U.S. will stand up to its enemies with its allies.
Pence also said the U.S. would protect freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, the sea lanes vital to global shipping where China has been staking claim to disputed territory.
