Family Tokyo Trip: Tokyo Toy Museum & More!
For this part of our family Tokyo trip, we explore the Tokyo Toy Museum before saying our goodbyes to downtown Tokyo. If you are wondering what to do to fill a day in Tokyo that is fun for the kids (and the family!), head over to Shinjuku and visit the Tokyo Toy Museum. We are so glad we made this trip there because Akari definitely walked away with such a memorable experience. Also featured in this video: a hidden gem for coffee lovers in Shibuya, a quick visit to the Tokyo Fire Museum, and making our way out of Shibuya into Tokyo Disney Resort territory!

Details and Places Mentioned:
- Tokyo Metro System-
- Tsukuyomi Coffee: 2-chome-7-2 Dogenzaka Shibuya City (
Hidden just a couple blocks away from Shibuya Crossing, is this cute (and very tiny) cafe! I ordered the sweet bean and butter sandwich (600 yen), which tasted amazing. They also have savory breakfast sandwiches you can enjoy alongside your morning coffee! I highly recommend this cafe if you need a break from the noisy and busy streets of Shibuya.
- Fire Museum by the Tokyo Fire Department: 3 Chome-10 Yotsuya, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0004, Japan (
Connected to the subway station, this free museum offers fun for both kids and adults. Lots of interactive displays and games as well as educational and historical overview of fire fighting in Japan. It’s a great place to supplement your visit to the Tokyo Toy Museum (which is only a 5 minute walk away).
- Tokyo Toy Museum: Japan, 4 Chome-20 Yotsuya, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0004 (
If you have kids, you definitely need to take them to the Tokyo Toy Museum. We could have spent all day here if we could! First floor has special exhibits (toy collections from each era of Japan, as well as from all over the world), gift shop, and the Wood Toy Forest. The second floor has more interactive displays, including pretend play, scientific toys, musical instruments, board games for all ages, and various traditional wooden Japanese toys. Be sure to sign up for the toy workshop! During this workshop, your child is taught in a Japanese style classroom how to make their own toy! All of this is included in your admission. Such an amazing experience for Akari and for us, we will definitely be back!
- Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay (
Official Tokyo Disney Resort hotel and our last hotel to spend the last 2 days of our Tokyo trip. It is located only 10-15 minutes away from Tokyo Disney Resort. Don’t forget to check out the first two videos I uploaded of our Tokyo trip to check out the Disney portion of our trip!

???????? Tokyo Toy Museum ~ 東京おもちゃ美術館
Tokyo Toy Museum / wisata ke jepang / jalan jalan ke jepang / Visit Japan with Kids // Tokyo Toy Museum ~ 東京おもちゃ美術館 . The fantastic world of toys awaits you inside this former school building! After closing of an old elementary school, the facility was reborn as the Tokyo Toy Museum. There are many ways to enjoy this unique museum. You may prefer to play with toys, join workshops, enjoy exhibitions, or just walk around. You will meet with toys, new friends and lots of wonders you have never seen!
Tokyo Toy Museum is called the “Toy Communication Museum”.
Tokyo Toy Museum 東京おもちゃ美術館
The Tokyo Toy Museum (or 東京おもちゃ美術館 in Japanese) is just east of Shinjuku, in the Yotsuya sanchome area, and a lot of people probably miss it because it's not especially close to any stations. But if you have young kids, it's really worth the visit to see so many fun wooden toys.
Tokyo Toy Museum on Google Maps:
Official Tokyo Toy Museum website:
The museum looks to be sort of an impromptu display in an old school, which is pretty amazing considering how well it is put together. You'll find a number of floors, each with a variety of displays and sometimes even activities for kids to partake in.

This museum is very thoughtfully and creatively put together for children and offers multiple activities to a child to get engaged, think, explore & even create.
I simply fell in love with this place, hope you will enjoy watching the video and in case you want to know more about the museum please follow the link underneath. Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku: Quick trips to our favourites! Japan April 2018
Hi everyone! It's our second to last day in Japan so we're spending the day visiting some of our favourite stores, coffee shops and cafes in Shinjuku, Shibuya and Harajuku! We start off in Sendagaya, visiting our old neighbourhood before heading to Shinjuku to eat some bakery noms and shop in one of my favourite stores, yodobashi camera. We then head back to Harajuku to eat some amazing ramen and fruit pies before spending almost a 10000 yen on stickers at B-side label! We finish with some shopping in some of my favourite stores in Shibuya. Thanks so much for watching!

Japan National Museum of Nature & Science With Kids - Dinosaur Bones ????????- Tokyo for Kids 2019
One of the best things to do in Tokyo with Kids is the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno park for a family fun learning experience for kids.
Please click the Like ???? & Subscribe buttons:
Huge Brontosaurus ????, T-Rex ????, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Prehistoric Monster-like Turtles & Elephants and much more! Our kiddos were so excited to see the dinosaur bones in real life. The exhibits are amazing and you get a feel for how humongous the dinosaurs were compared to us tiny humans. Lots of full sets of dinosaur bones on display as well as prehistoric human skeletons to compare the evolution of cavemen. Also see monstrous creatures that lived a million years ago to current animals and sea creatures. It was definitely a highlight of our kids trip and one they will remember!
Within the museum there is also a fun kids indoor playroom, however reservations are required more than a day in advance!
The Tokyo Nature & Science museum is right next to the Ueno Zoo. There are handful of other museums to explore too but this one is the best in Tokyo for kids. During April in the springtime, Ueno park is also a hot spot for cherry blossom viewings, but it is crazy crowded as you can see in the video.
The National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno park is in Ueno park near the Ueno Train station.
Our Ueno Museum & Park Itinerary for kids:
- 11am - National Museum of Nature and Science (Allow at least 2-3 hours) I don’t recommend combining this with the zoo or other museums if you are traveling with kids.
- 1pm - Walk through Ueno Park towards the Shinobazuno Pond. You will need to walk around the park if you have a stroller due to stairs. But it is not too far out of the way with a stroller.
- 2pm - On the weekends there are Japanese street food stands in the shrine of Shinobazuno Pond. Great place for a snack or lunch.
- 2:30pm - Rent a swan boat in Shinobazuno pond.
Thanks for watching and let us know if you have any questions or comments!

Tokyo Toy Museum, Good Toy, and Wood Education
Through the lens of wooden toys, the appreciation for wood is more than just entertainment. From children to adults, wood is easily accessible via a variety of channels in Japan, such as the Tokyo Toy Museum, where provides a valuable learning environment to stay, play and study with wood. The Mokuiku Summit 2014 has best represented the success of the Mokuiku (Wood education) project, involving a broad range of groups and individuals, both users and lovers of wood.
