The Tom McCall Waterfront Park is located on the west bank of the Willamette River in downtown Portland, Oregon. It is approximately 36 acres in size and own by the city of Portland. The park's name was changed in 1984 to honer the former Oregon Governor Tom McCall.
The video was shot during midday several weeks ago as a time killing exercise. A hacked GH2 was used, with a 60mbps patch. For this upload the video was re-encoded at 45mpbs cbr. I used the 20mm, the 14-140mm, and the Olympus 9-18mm for this particular collection of shots.

The Battleship Oregon Memorial was built in 1956 to honor an 1893 ship. It was nicknamed 'the Bulldog of the United States Navy' and fought in many famous battles before it was retired from service. On July 4, 1976, a time capsule was sealed in the base of the memorial. The time capsule is to be opened July 5, 2076.
The Founders Stone honors Portland's founders, William Pettygrove and Asa Lovejoy, who tossed a coin to decide whether their new town would be named Boston or Portland.
Salmon Street Springs was dedicated in 1988, although it wasn't named until a contest was held in 1989. Designed by Robert Perron Landscape Architects and Planners, the fountain is controlled by an underground computer that changes the pattern of the fountain's 185 water jets. The three cycles of the fountain are called misters, bollards, and wedding cake. At full capacity, the fountain recycles 4,924 gallons of water per minute through as many as 137 jets at once.
On August 3, 1990, the Japanese American Historical Plaza was dedicated to the memory of those who were deported to inland internment camps during World War II. In the memorial garden, artwork tells the story of the Japanese people in the Northwest - of immigration, elderly immigrants, native-born Japanese Americans, soldiers who fought in US military services during the war, and the business people who worked hard and had hope for the children of the future. A sculpture by Jim Gion, Songs of Innocence, Songs of Experience, serves as a gateway to the plaza.
A non-profit organization, the Oregon Nikkei Endowment, fueled the commemoration with help from PP&R, Metropolitan Arts Commission, Portland Development Commission, and the Portland-Sapporo Sister City Association. Designed by award-winning landscape architect Robert Murase, the plaza is 70 feet wide at its narrowest, 200 feet at its widest. It extends between NW Davis & Naito Parkway (formerly Front Ave) and the Willamette River esplanade for about 300 feet northward from the Burnside Bridge. One hundred ornamental cherry trees link the plaza northward to the Friendship Circle, a collaboration by sculptor Lee Kelly and composer Michael Stirling. From a wide concrete circle rise a pair of 20-foot stainless towers from which emanates music based upon traditional and contemporary Japanese instruments. The sculpture commemorates 30 years of the Sister City relationship between Sapporo, Japan and Portland.
In 1993, the Police Memorial, located at SW Jefferson near the Hawthorne Bridge, was dedicated to Portland police officers who had given their lives in the performance of their official duties.
***Historical Information***
The idea for this park came at the turn of the century when the 1903 Olmsted Report pointed out the need not only for parks within the city, but for a greenway scheme for the riverbanks in order to ensure their preservation for future generations. The 1912 Bennett Plan again showed a need for more parks and river greenways, but instead of reorienting itself to the river, the city's focus was pulled further inland. In the late 1920s, the seawall was built along the Willamette's west bank for the protection of downtown from the annual floods. The seawall not only cut off the water from the people, but the people from the water as well. The construction of Harbor Drive along the west bank in the 1940s continued the trend of isolating the public from the river.
With the opening of the Eastbank Freeway (Marquam Bridge, I-5), Harbor Drive became less important to the traffic flow of the city. Governor Tom McCall created the Harbor Drive Task Force in 1968 in order to study proposals for creating a public open space in its place. In 1974, Harbor Drive was torn up and construction of a waterfront park began. It was completed and dedicated in 1978, gaining instant popularity. In 1984, the park was renamed Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park

The park was renamed in 1984 to honor Tom McCall, the Oregon governor who pledged his support for the beautification of the west bank of the Willamette River—harkening back to the City Beautiful plans at the turn of the century that envisioned parks and greenways along the river. The Oregon National Guard participated in the Bite of Oregon at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland, Ore., Aug. 10. The Air National Guard team, made up of Head Chef, Master Sgt. Michael Mick Gremaud, and Sous Chef, Chief Master Sgt. Michelle Marshall, competed against the Oregon Army National Guard team, who ultimately won the competition with a mixed berry cobbler with sweet corn as the secret ingredient. The Army team is comprised of Sgt. Jeffrey Reed and Sgt. Elizabeth Stewart. In 2013, Reed and Stewart competed in the annual Department of Army’s Phillip A. Connelly Award Competition for cooking, taking both state and regional titles. Proceeds from the Bite of Oregon go to benefit Special Olympics Oregon. Video by Spc. Velomobile cross country trip kicks off in Portland, Oregon Thursday.
That's not R2D2, it's velomobile, a human-powered tricycle surrounded by a hard-shell fairing, as it rolls along North Vancouver Avenue in Portland Thursday. About 50 of the futuristic-looking, pedal-powered vehicles left Portland about mid-day, the first day of a month-long, 3,000 cross-country trip from Portland to Washington D.C. After leaving the Days Inn Hotel in North Portland, they stopped for 90 minutes at Salmon Springs Fountain at Tom McCall Waterfront Park before heading east on Intersate 84. Half the riders are from Europe, the other half from the U.S. and Canada. Organizers of Roll Over America expect to average about 125 miles a day, with stops in Helena, Montana, Minneapolis, Chicago and Pittsburgh. Velomobiles are becoming increasingly popular in Europe with commuters, and are just starting to catch on in the states.

Tom McCall and Oregon's Environmental Legacy
Oregon Governor Tom McCall's pioneering fight to clean up the state's waterways and to control development in the late 1960s still resonates today. At the Nov. 11 Corvallis Science Pub, Oregon State historian Bill Robbins will discuss the significance of McCall's leadership.
Robbins will also show McCall's famous documentary, Pollution in Paradise, which aired on KGW-TV in 1962.
The Science Pub presentation begins at 6 p.m. in the Old World Deli located at 341 SW Second St. in Corvallis. It is free and open to the public.
With an aristocratic, East Coast family background and a large-sized ego, says Robbins, McCall proved himself a man of the people, one who inspired deep affection for his adopted and beloved state. In a significantly less polarized political environment, he worked across party lines to achieve significant policy objectives that we live with to the present day.

Walking through the South Waterfront in Portland, Oregon (us state). Testing the Moment V2 18mm Wide Lens with a Smooth Q that isn't properly weight balanced. We start by the Aerial Tram and OHSU, walking to the South Waterfront Greenway looking at the Willamette River then walking back to the Elizabeth Caruthers Park. Recorded with binaural audio.
This is recorded on my first day using the Moment 18mm Wide Angle lens for smartphones. The camera isn't perfectly stabilized and it wobbles slightly when looking straight.. when you add weight to one side of the camera, which is the lens in this case a counterweight needs to be added to the other side. Currently testing how much weight exactly needs to be added to balance everything perfectly and allow me to walk while keeping the camera stabilized. You would think it would be easiest to keep the camera looking straight..
I'm just gonna put the video up as is instead of retaking it. I need to move forward and record all the locations I had planned.
