TRANSCRIPT:
Hi Everyone, Pastor Joe.
I’m in my favorite spot here in my office. This is the world map. Those pins that you can see there represent an outreach that we have some where in the world.
Now Jesus said go into all the world and make disciples. He said start locally, then go a little outside, then a little bit further and then around the world. And he said to do it with people you like and people you don’t like, people who are like you, people who are different, but go and take the good news of Jesus.
So what we have tried to do is plant churches, churches that are self replicating churches, churches that can continue to share the love of Jesus with other people. And again, you see some of the success that God has blessed us with over the last 25 years and we are honored to be a part of that. But as we get closer to the end of time, we’ve got more pressure on us, more opportunities. And yes, things are bad but it is the greatest days for the church because when things get their toughest is when people are going to be most open to the gospel of Jesus. So please continue to pray.
This weekend my sermon is from Matthew Chapter 9, where Jesus said, “Pray for workers in the harvest field.” He didn’t even say pray for the harvest field. The harvest is there. People are there waiting to receive Jesus. He said, “Pray for workers.” So we are going to look at that passage. So read up on that from Matthew 9.
But our big outreach, this is our biggest local outreach we do every year, we do a couple: the Halloween carnival, we do some Easter Events, but this back to school program we do is probably one of the biggest outreaches that we ever have done. I have got my Ninja Turtle backpack here today.
Listen, my dear friend Chuck Strasser was very much involved with this every year. Chuck bought lots and lots of supplies and backpacks. He loved this. I’m challenging you this year, maybe you can buy some for the Lord, maybe you can buy some even in remembrance of Chuck and say, “I want to carry this legacy on.” Right now, we still need 400 of these backpacks. Now if you are worried, I understand that they cost about $5.00 to $7.00, at Walgreen's and places like that. I don’t buy a lot of these but that is what I understand.
Now what happens with these backpacks? These backpacks are used in our outreach. They will be filled with school supplies. The kids’ families will get food, they will get shoes, some of them get bicycles, they get medical treatment and we do it in three locations. It’s done in Interlachen, Florida, south of Palatka, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the rural part of the state. We also do it in Tampa, which is one of the poorest parts of the city parts of Florida, just in the North Tampa area. And we do it right here in Ormond Beach, where we distribute to hundreds of families in need right here in our own community.
So you are saying, “How do I get involved, how can I help?” Well this is a biggie. This is a big one to volunteer. Some resources to volunteer some of these backpacks, to step up, to be a part.
[Donate new backpacks this weekend at the Donation Station, or skip the store and donate online at giving.tomoka.cc, reference: Back to School]. See, it’s not about somebody doing something, “Okay, I’m going to do something to solve all of this.” It’s about all of us doing something.
Jesus said, “Pray for workers.” So that is what I am asking for you. Lord, send us workers, send us givers, so that we can carry on this mission.
I love being your pastor. I look forward to seeing you this weekend.
Weekly update - Tomoka Christian - April 22, 2015
TRANSCRIPT: Hi Everyone, Pastor Joe. Let me start with a thank you. When a Pastor stands back and gets to watch the church acting like Christians, there is no greater joy. Watching how you treat guests. Watching you pray with one another when there is a need. Watching children getting taught and teenagers getting taught and getting into groups. It’s just really cool to watch. I want to say, “thank you” for all of your hard work. Feeding people in the Pantry, working with the homeless.
Thank you for your generosity to Ben and Stacy [Shawiak, heading to minister in Southeast Asia]. We received about $4,000 this weekend through your generosity. We thank you for that. They are within about $6,000 of their goal to be able to go to Southeast Asia, so pray about that. And if you still want to be a part of that you certainly can be [call the office at 386-677-6455 and staff will get you info].
Some big events are happening this weekend. You see the poster [points to Standing Strong poster on wall] on Friday night April 24th. This is for ladies or teenage girls on up. This is an opportunity to come on up here and hear an incredible national speaker and to be challenged as women to live for Christ and how to be faithful to God through great times and some very difficult down times in your life. So I encourage you to come out and hear Dawn Smith Jordan. She has an incredible story to share and you will be blessed. So, ladies we encourage you to come take over the church Friday night, April 24th.
Then Sunday, of course we have the weekend services, but Sunday afternoon April 26th, is our big baptismal event. We do a few of these a year at Andy Romano Park [839 S. Atlantic Ave., Ormond Beach] at 2:00pm. Come about 1:30. We meet under the pavilion do some teaching, answer any questions you might have, and do baptisms. Bring your friends, your family, bring your small group. We’ll take pictures. It really is an exciting, exciting time and a public statement to those who are around.
Now this weekend, we’re in second to last in The Story. So I get to cover basically most of the end of the New Testament but we will be looking at Acts Chapter 20, the book of Ephesians and we are going to be talking in those two sections about godly leadership. Leading as a father, leading as a husband, leading in the church. Being the kind of person that God has called you to be to impact other people in positive ways. That’s what God has called us to do. So that will be this weekend April 25th and 26th.
Can’t wait to see you. I love being your pastor. We’ll see you then.

TRANSCRIPT: Hi everyone Pastor Joe. I’m here with my new Olaf backpack — at least that’s what I’ve been told.
We need 500 of these guys. They don’t have to be this exact backpack, but every year we do a huge outreach it’s actually in three parts. We do an outreach back-to-school event for our local children here. We also do them in Tampa in the inner city, and one in the poorer areas in the country, in Interlachen. And in these events we give the kids backpacks, we have games and activities where we share the love of Jesus with them.
Here at our event we do haircuts, and doctors give physicals and food from the Food Pantry. It’s a big, big deal, a big outreach, a real chance for us to love our community and love our state. So, we need 500 of these by about a month from now and we also need gently used children’s clothing and teen clothing. Of course shoes are always needed. And if you would like to give financially to be a part of this and that is all a possibility [use Pushpay by going to giving.tomoka.cc and choosing “Back to School” or drop a check in the offering bag at any service with “Back To School” in the memo line].
Now, Pastor Cord is starting a new series on Wednesday night and it is called, “THIS is
Where YOU Matter,’ and this is exactly what we are talking about here — that you bring value to the body of Christ. We will encourage you, we’ll teach you, but we believe that the greatest thing we do as a church is that we give you opportunities where you can use your gifts, talents, and finances, to be a blessing to expand God’s Kingdom.
So come out Wednesday night. Our vacation Bible school program will be continuing and our children are doing fantastic in that program. They are raising money for Third World countries to get wells for drinking water and for bathing water, and that’s their mission [gifts also accepted through Pushpay. Choose “Water.”]
It’s been a great summer with vacation Bible school, camp, Christ with Youth conference. There are just some excellent, excellent things going on.
This weekend in our continuing series, “Conversations with God,” I will be preaching from Nehemiah 9. This particular chapter it’s kind of a reverse from what we did this past week. Where Jonah’s story was one line where Jonah cries out to God from inside the fish, this one is a planned, predetermined prayer that a group of guys set down and
wrote to make sure that they say everything that they want to say to God. It is almost
in a contract kind of a way that, God, we understand who you are and we will be faithful
to you.
So we will continue this series, use the prayer book we have given you [or pick yours up in the basket outside the Link] and any way God can motivate you to get more involved to help our community and the world around us, that is what we want to do.
God bless You and I love being your Pastor. I’ll see you this weekend.

TRANSCRIPT:
Good afternoon everybody, Pastor Cord here, and I’m really excited about the end of the summer as we get ready for the fall kick off here at Tomoka Christian Church. Listen again, we say it every week, but I certainly want to take the time to just thank you guys for everything you did this summer. Camp was an absolute success at North Florida. More kids than ever attended camp this summer. More kids made decisions for Jesus than ever before and many of you at Tomoka served at many of the weeks at camp. So a huge thank you to you guys. The mission trips were a success all over the world and you guys did a phenomenal job taking the message and the love of Jesus all over the world. The outreaches, the back packs, everything, just once again as Joe constantly says, it’s just an honor to be a pastor here at Tomoka and watch the church be the church all over the world.
And as we get ready for the fall, man we’re excited again. We are getting ready to kick off our Believe series which is the follow up series to the Story that we just went through last year and we can’t be more excited about what this is going to offer all of you. You know it’s difficult to be able to grow when sometimes the only way you grow is through just weekly attendance at church. Believe is going to give us a chance, not to just walk through the Bible but to really grow roots deep so when life’s storms come you’ll be able to hang on to your faith. And so we’re kicking this off the second week of September, but right now these books are available at the Nations Market. You can pick those up as we continue to make those available to you. We’re going to be signing up for Believe groups the last weekend of August so you guys can begin to formulate groups. We have over fifty facilitators already, we’re looking for fifty more so we can have over a hundred Believe groups doing the same thing that the Story groups did along the way. And so we’re excited to be able to offer that as well.
This weekend Pastor Joe is going to be preaching from Job chapter 42. And if you’re familiar with Job’s story at all, you know that his life was full of all kinds of tragedy. From the death of his children, to the loss of everything he had and Job’s friends being terrible counselors, Job had a lot on his plate. But at the end of Job’s life, he has a conversation with God that teaches us how we can connect this world to the world that we sometimes don’t always feel connected to.
This is a beautiful gift I was given this week from a good friend who loves Jesus and loves good sports teams. But the reason she gave me this cup was to try to connect us and me to her business. She wanted to find a way to bridge the gap between what she was selling and what we needed to buy. That’s a lot like Job 42. We learn in Job’s prayer and his conversation with God, that there’s a way to connect God to our lives and God to our friend’s lives. So we really want to encourage you guys to come back and take a part of that weekend where Joe gets to preach on Job 42 and how we can connect what we’re doing here and to what God expects of us. Listen we love you, we’re so grateful to be a part of the church here with you. God bless you and we’ll see you this weekend.
