Tonto National Monument Cliff Dwellings. We have been blessed so far with the most beautiful weather & blue skies. It was a half mile walk up to the dwellings, but worth every step. It was very hard not to take a photograph at each step! Met up with an intern Forest Ranger, and she enlighten us with the past.

Falling Down Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona May 20 2019
The trail originates at Grand Canyon Village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, descending 4380 feet to the Colorado River. It has an average grade of 10% along its entire length. At trail's end, the River Trail continues another 1.9 miles to the Bright Angel Campground and Phantom Ranch. These two trails combined are the most common method used to access Phantom Ranch by hikers and mules.
Two trails cross or join the Bright Angel Trail, the first being an intersection with the Tonto Trail at Indian Garden, leading toward the Monument Use Area to the west, and to the South Kaibab Trail 4.7 miles (7.6 km) to the east. The second is the River Trail, which officially begins when the Bright Angel Trail reaches the Colorado River at the River Resthouse (although some consider that the Bright Angel Trail officially ends after crossing the Colorado River at the Silver Bridge).

One of the two superhighways into the Canyon, the other being the Bright Angel Trail, this path runs along a ridge offering stunning views. During the summer, visitors are advised to bring at least two quarts of water along because it can get very hot and the trail offers no shade.

Hermit Trail, Grand Canyon
Hermit Trail is an intermediate-level unmaintained trail that winds its way from the Grand Canyon's South Rim to the Colorado River below. The journey from the trailhead at Hermit's Rest at the top to Hermit Rapids is about 10 miles and involves an elevation drop of approximately 4200 feet. The trail is relatively easy to follow with some small rockslides obscuring the trail over the first few miles. At about two-thirds of the way down, the journey across the inner canyon is relatively level. However, the trail is overgrown and becomes difficult to follow at times over the last mile towards the river.
A backcountry permit is required to use the campsites on this trail, and one should not attempt to hike to the river and back in one day.

Grand Canyon - Bright Angel Trail - FULL VIDEO TOUR
Bright Angel Trail is THE trail which descends into the Grand Canyon from the South Rim (The South Rim is the most frequented destination as it has the famous horseshoe bend etc). We started really late in the afternoon, so we hiked until the darkness caught us. It's crazy how sudden elevation loss can make you feel extremely dizzy and woozy. Climbing back up and out can also instantly make you feel better. Definately a strange experience with that. There were campgrounds along the way (Which you need to pre-book) and also toilets etc. If you make it to the bottom, you can also hike back up the North Kaibab Trail (to the North Rim) and make it an incredibly long hike.

The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa, Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Navajo: Bidááʼ Haʼaztʼiʼ Tsékooh, Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

Crossing the Colorado River @ Phantom Ranch, AZ in the Bottom of The Grand Canyon
Halfway through our one-day journey to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back. This video was shot just after coming down the Kaibab Trail and passing through Phantom Ranch (105 degrees that day), and crossing one of the suspension bridges across the Colorado towards our way back up, The Bright Angel Trail. The stream we followed up The Bright Angel allowed us to keep our hats and shirts constantly wet and cool; between that and some much needed cloud cover that rolled in just before the intense switchback ascent, that saved our hike back up.
Our trip to Cheyava Falls along the Clear Creek Trail at the Grand Canyon
We took a trip to see a rare Spring waterfall in the Grand Canyon. April 2017. Cheyava Falls is the tallest waterfall in the Grand Canyon at over 800 feet high. It flows when there's enough snow at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and then melts at a fast rate releasing the water that produces this spectacular event. Coordinates: 36.1460948°N, -111.9743322°W Approx. Elevation: 5,928 feet (1,807 meters)
