Green Valley AZ Recreation -- how do you want to spend your retirement?
Retirement Agrees with You!
Green Valley is known for being one of the largest and most affordable active adult communities in the country, but to go along with that, it's also one of the happiest! No, there hasn't been an official happiness survey but just go down to one of the GVR rec centers and look around at all the smiling faces there. As you stroll by the pickle ball courts you'll hear bursts of laughter and quick witted banter between friendly competitors. Sit by the pool for a moment and feel the sun smiling down on you.
These active adult facilities and amenities are provided by Green Valley Recreation, Inc.. GVR is a non-profit organization serving the leisure and social needs of the adult retirement community of Green Valley. You should become familiar with the organization if you are considering moving to Green Valley. Their website is .
There is a deed restriction in about 80% of the homes in Green Valley, that states that the real property owner agrees to be a member of GVR and that the property will remain a membership property of GVR. With that membership come annual fees of $475 per household for the use of any and all of the facilities and amenities provided by GVR.
Upon purchasing a home in Green Valley, that is also a member of GVR, the new homeowner pays a one time New Member Capital Fee of $2425. The annual dues of $475 per household are then pro-rated as of the day of close of escrow.
In other 55+ communities the fees may be called something else but essentially, these fees provide the financial support for the recreational facilities and amenities of the community. And in Green Valley, GVR does an outstanding job of maintaining and improving the program to suit to ever changing needs of a growing population.
Not only does GVR manage the pools, fitness centers, sports courts, and the hobbyist studios (camera, ceramics, clay, dance, lapidary/silversmith, etc) it also offers a variety of courses and lectures to bring you the very best extended learning opportunities on a wide range of subjects. And then there's the Arts and Entertainment activities to complete the offerings and fill your evenings.
GVR certainly provides a big bang for the buck. You'll have no excuse for a dull moment or a boring day! No matter where you choose to live, you're never far from one or two of the social centers and you'll have access to all of them.
If being a member of GVR just isn't something for you, then there are about 20% of homes in Green Valley that are GVR-free. They typically offer some amenities on a much smaller scale, but be aware that you are paying for those amenities through an HOA fee.
If you are planning on visiting Green Valley, please let me know your time frame, I'm delighted to serve as your tour guide. We can set up a day or two to view homes and get you a 2 day access pass to the GVR facilities so you can have a little taste of life here.
Here's to retirement!!

Suspense: Crime Without Passion / The Plan / Leading Citizen of Pratt County
A crime of passion, or crime passionnel, in popular usage, refers to a violent crime, especially murder, in which the perpetrator commits the act against someone because of sudden strong impulse such as sudden rage or heartbreak rather than as a premeditated crime. The act, as is suggested by the name (crime passionnel - from French language) is often associated with the history of France. However, such crimes have existed and continue to exist in most cultures.
A crime of passion refers to a criminal act in which the perpetrator commits a crime, especially murder or assault, against someone because of sudden strong impulse such as sudden rage or heartbreak rather than as a premeditated crime. A typical crime of passion might involve an aggressive pub-goer who assaults another guest following an argument or a husband who discovers his wife has made him a cuckold and proceeds to brutally batter or even kill his wife and the man with whom she was involved.
In the United States civil courts, a crime of passion is referred to as temporary insanity. This defense was first used by U.S. Congressman Daniel Sickles of New York in 1859 after he had killed his wife's lover, Philip Barton Key, but was most used during the 1940s and 1950s.
In some countries, notably France, crime passionnel (or crime of passion) was a valid defense during murder cases; during the 19th century, some cases could be a custodial sentence for two years for the murderer, while the spouse was dead; this ended in France as the Napoleonic code was updated in the 1970s so that a specific father's authority upon his whole family was over.
The Great Gildersleeve: Gildy the Executive / Substitute Secretary / Gildy Tries to Fire Bessie
Aiding and abetting the periodically frantic life in the Gildersleeve home was family cook and housekeeper Birdie Lee Coggins (Lillian Randolph). Although in the first season, under writer Levinson, Birdie was often portrayed as saliently less than bright, she slowly developed as the real brains and caretaker of the household under writers John Whedon, Sam Moore and Andy White. In many of the later episodes Gildersleeve has to acknowledge Birdie's commonsense approach to some of his predicaments. By the early 1950s, Birdie was heavily depended on by the rest of the family in fulfilling many of the functions of the household matriarch, whether it be giving sound advice to an adolescent Leroy or tending Marjorie's children.
By the late 1940s, Marjorie slowly matures to a young woman of marrying age. During the 9th season (September 1949-June 1950) Marjorie meets and marries (May 10) Walter Bronco Thompson (Richard Crenna), star football player at the local college. The event was popular enough that Look devoted five pages in its May 23, 1950 issue to the wedding. After living in the same household for a few years with their twin babies Ronnie and Linda, the newlyweds move next door to keep the expanding Gildersleeve clan close together.
Leroy, aged 10--11 during most of the 1940s, is the all-American boy who grudgingly practices his piano lessons, gets bad report cards, fights with his friends and cannot remember to not slam the door. Although he is loyal to his Uncle Mort, he is always the first to deflate his ego with a well-placed Ha!!! or What a character! Beginning in the Spring of 1949, he finds himself in junior high and is at last allowed to grow up, establishing relationships with the girls in the Bullard home across the street. From an awkward adolescent who hangs his head, kicks the ground and giggles whenever Brenda Knickerbocker comes near, he transforms himself overnight (November 28, 1951) into a more mature young man when Babs Winthrop (both girls played by Barbara Whiting) approaches him about studying together. From then on, he branches out with interests in driving, playing the drums and dreaming of a musical career.
