Edisto Beach State Campground, South Carolina
This is one of my favorite campgrounds. We've camped on both the Ocean and Live Oaks sites. There is a Hi-Lo grocery store an easy bike ride away. Shelling near where the river and the ocean meet is great. Nice hiking/biking trails along with plenty of places to kayak
Edisto Island and Edisto Beach State Park, SC
Finally, I found a real beach town.It lays about 50 miles south of Charleston and 100 miles north of Hilton Head. Although I'm sure it is busy in the summer, when I was there in late Oct it was nice and sleepy.
I was surprised to discover that there are 400-500 full time residents. I think I say more than that in the video. You can check out the demographics here
It had a very relaxed feel. That may have been complimented by the 80 degrees and sunny day that I was fortunate to have when I arrived.
In this video I take you to the beach, the campground - Edisto Beach State Park - and a little drive around the island.
I was wrong about the price of the ocean side campground run by SC State Parks. They were actually only $10 more than the Live Oak Campground. Still 1/2 mile away cost $48 a night. I call that pricey but I wouldn't hesitate to come back.
Part 2 - Edisto Island Vacation, S.C.
This video is part 2 in a series taken in South Carolina during July of 2016. Featured in part two is the drive to Edisto Island and a day on the beach.

Aerial view of Edisto Beach, South Carolina
Edisto Beach is a town in Colleton County, South Carolina, United States. Edisto Beach's population was 414 as of the 2010 census,[3] down from 641 at the 2000 census. The town limits include only the developed coastal area of Edisto Island within Colleton County, while the majority of the island consists of unincorporated land in Charleston County. Due to its status as a bedroom community, Edisto Beach is among the most affluent communities in the state.
Edisto Beach was originally settled by the Edistow Indians, but was rediscovered by the Spanish in the late 16th century. Thereafter, commerce on the island began to develop. Rice and indigo were the most common crops during the early settlement years. Later, significant cotton plantations were built and flourished. This industry, fueled by rich land owners and slaves, prospered until the Civil War.
Although Union soldiers invaded Edisto and Johns Island, Confederate forces were able to retain control of Charleston until 1865, very late in the Civil War.
By the 1920s South Carolina residents began arriving on Edisto Island and Edisto Beach to build crude retreats. In those days, access to the island could be gained only at low tide by driving or riding across the marsh on beds of oyster shells.
Although most homes on the island were destroyed in the 1940s, Hurricane Hugo spared the island in 1989. It has since become a vacation destination with a section of the island recently purchased by Wyndham Resorts.[4] In 2012, Edisto held its first ever road race attracting close to 200 runners, including the mayor.[5]
Edisto is known for its low tourism and its industrial scarcity. There used to be a video arcade on the island, but it has since been replaced with a surf shop gift store.
Edisto Beach is located at the southeastern tip of Colleton County at 32°29′15″N 80°19′28″W (32.487613, -80.324402).[9] It is separated from the rest of the county by the South Edisto River, the tidal portion of the Edisto River, so that the only road access is via South Carolina Highway 174 through Charleston County. SC 174 leads north across the rest of Edisto Island 24 miles (39 km) to U.S. Route 17 at Osborn. Charleston is 48 miles (77 km) by road northeast of Edisto Beach.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.1 km2), of which 2.1 square miles (5.5 km2) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.6 km2), or 9.48%, is water.[3] Edisto Beach State Park borders the town to the north and east.

TAKE A TOUR OF EDISTO BEACH! Not far from the hustle and bustle of Charleston, you can find areas still as rural and beautiful as they existed thousands of years ago. Just like nearby Johns Island and Wadmalaw Island, Edisto Beach is lined with draping oak trees, scenic, undeveloped landscapes and quiet beaches.
Botany Bay, South Carolina Plantation Tour | 10K Road Trip Vlog Day 27
Botany Bay Plantation is a great day trip from Charleston (about an hour southwest on Edisto Island). It's a historic heritage preserve and wildlife management area. The main draw is the beach - a few miles of pristine, undeveloped South Carolina coastline. Unfortunately, the beach was closed due to damage from Hurricane Matthew, but the plantation tour is still worth driving.
This is Day 27 of our 10,000 mile road trip across the US.
Botany Bay Plantation is a combination of two smaller plantations: The Bleak House Plantation and the Sea Cloud Plantation. You drive along a dirt road and stop at 15 points of interest and read about various historic sites (some of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places). Entrance to the Plantation is free, as are the guide and map. It's interesting and takes about an hour.

SOUTH CAROLINA ISLAND LIVING ???? Beach, boating in Edisto Beach
South Carolina beach life at its best!! We took a little day trip to North Edisto Island where us locals gather to drink, play, relax and just getaway from the crowded beaches. That's truly the beautiful thing about this area. If you have a boat (or, even better, a friend with a boat) you can find your own little slice of deserted paradise. A quote and motto that we try to live by in our day to day: Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, and drink the wild air. Are you living High Vibe ? If not, hopefully this video inspires you to.

It was great to have an early spring vacation. We went to a new area down in Edisto Island South Carolina. The location is south of Charleston and north of Hilton Head. If your in the area give it a visit. For this trip I went with Big Brob, E-Rock, and my sister. A-Man had to stay home and hit his Civil Engineering school work.

Edisto Island, SC, August 2011,
A visual summary of our week long vacation to Edisto Island, South Carolina, August 27 - Sept 3, 2011. Includes tour of Botany Bay Plantation & a quick stop at Steamboat Landing. This is a great island for fishing & boating enthusiasts. We mainly walk, bike, read, swim, and oh yeah, take a few pictures & video. Pretty laid back.
Never got the name of the guy with the crabs, but he sure made this video more watchable. Dude, if you're watching this, THANKS for being so accomodating! He's my favorite part of the vid, for sure. I've got to learn how to do what he does; it's a big part of the Edisto experience.
