Wisconsin’s Desert | Parks and Landmarks
Sean goes to the Spring Green Preserve to explore Wisconsin’s desert, complete with cacti! There’s a lot to see here, but deserts historically aren’t hospitable towards people. In the end, the sands of the Wisconsin River are a lot more fun!

Silver Lake State Park, Barnard VT
Nice State Park in Central Vermont. $25/night, no hook-up. Limited generator use, so I had to plan my electric usage accordingly. Too shaded for solar. Really pretty park with a nice lake for swimming. Fairly small so not a lot of hiking, but made a few laps around it. Large site and they also have lean-to structures. Clean restrooms and decent wi-fi which was good since no cell signal there.
Parfrey's Glen - Wisconsin Dells (in March)
We had a great trek at the Parfrey's Glen Natural Area at the Devil's Lake State Park in Wisconsin in March 2010. The Skillet Creek, although freezing cold, gave a good feeling.

Mom Warns Other About Dangers of Swimming In Quarries After Son Died
More from Inside Edition:
Thousands of quarries exist across the country but some can be disastrous. Jonathan Baksh, 19, jumped into Martin's Creek quarry in Pennsylvania in 2015, but he never made it back to land after suffering a cramp in the water. His mom was stunned when she found out her son was the second young man to die in quarry that year. Now, as the one year anniversary of her son's passing arrives next month, she's on a crusade to tell the world about the dangers of swimming in quarries.

Niagara Falls Part 1
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the American state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge.
Characteristics
Canadian Horseshoe Falls as viewed from Skylon Tower
American Falls (large waterfall on the left) and Bridal Veil Falls (smaller waterfall on the right) as viewed from Skylon Tower
The Horseshoe Falls drop about 188 feet (57 m),[4] while the height of the American Falls varies between 70 and 100 feet (21 and 30 m) because of the presence of giant boulders at its base. The larger Horseshoe Falls are about 2,600 feet (790 m) wide, while the American Falls are 1,060 feet (320 m) wide. The distance between the American extremity of the Niagara Falls and the Canadian extremity is 3,409 feet (1,039 m).
The peak flow over Horseshoe Falls was recorded at 225,000 cubic feet (6,400 m3) per second.[5] The average annual flow rate is 85,000 cubic feet (2,400 m3) per second.[6] Since the flow is a direct function of the Lake Erie water elevation, it typically peaks in late spring or early summer. During the summer months, at least 100,000 cubic feet (2,800 m3) per second of water traverses the falls, some 90% of which goes over the Horseshoe Falls, while the balance is diverted to hydroelectric facilities. This is accomplished by employing a weir – the International Control Dam – with movable gates upstream from the Horseshoe Falls. The falls' flow is further halved at night, and, during the low tourist season in the winter, remains a minimum of 50,000 cubic feet (1,400 m3) per second. Water diversion is regulated by the 1950 Niagara Treaty and is administered by the International Niagara Board of Control (IJC).[7]
The verdant green colour of the water flowing over the Niagara Falls is a byproduct of the estimated 60 tonnes/minute of dissolved salts and rock flour (very finely ground rock) generated by the erosive force of the Niagara River itself.
From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lies on the border of the United States and Canada[1] with the American Falls entirely on the United States' side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also on the United States' side, separated from the American Falls by Luna Island.
Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America that has a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m). During peak daytime tourist hours, more than six million cubic feet (168,000 m3) of water goes over the crest of the falls every minute.[2] Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by flow rate.[3]
The falls are 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York, and 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York. Niagara Falls was formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean.
Niagara Falls is famed both for its beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Balancing recreational, commercial, and industrial uses has been a challenge for the stewards of the falls since the 19th century.Donations
Wind Sends Porta-Potties Flying at Denver Park
Strong winds sent two portable toilets sailing into the air at a Colorado park. Video showed one of the porta-potties flying high over the park-goers, spraying a mysterious substance. The second toilet appears to break apart as it blows away. Porta-Potties can weigh up to 300 pounds. The viral video was posted on Facebook Monday and has since racked up over 1 million views. The wind also wreaked havoc on a tent. It's not clear whether anyone was injured.

Nebraska retiree uses earths's heat to grow oranges in snow
Winter temperatures in Alliance, Nebraska can drop to -20°F (the record low is -40°F/C), but retired mailman Russ Finch grows oranges in his backyard greenhouse without paying for heat. Instead, he draws on the earth's stable temperature (around 52 degrees in his region) to grow warm weather produce- citrus, figs, pomegranates - in the snow.
Finch first discovered geothermal heating in 1979 when he and his wife built it into their 4400-square-foot dream home to cut energy costs. Eighteen years later they decided to add a 16'x80' greenhouse in the backyard. The greenhouse resembles a pit greenhouse (walipini) in that the floor is dug down 4 feet below the surface and the roof is slanted to catch the southern sun.
To avoid using heaters for the cold Nebraska winter nights, Finch relies on the warm underground air fed into the greenhouse via plastic tubing under the yard and one fan.
Finch sells a Citrus in the Snow report detailing his work with his geo-air greenhouses and says anyone can build a market-producing greenhouse for about $25,000 or less than the cost of a heat system on a traditional greenhouse.
