Итак, мы приехали в Ростов. Это очень древний город. Ростов был основан в 862 году. Сейчас мы внутри Кремля. Посмотрите, какие красивые здания, какая прекрасная архитектура.

Внутри можно купить картины. Здесь работает художник. И здесь, в этом Кремле, снимали знаменитый фильм Иван Васильевич меняет профессию. Узнаёте?

Здесь можно купить сувениры. Много-много маленьких магазинчиков. Смотрим ближе. Видите? Магниты, картины, колокольчики, украшения. В Ростове очень много традиционных украшений: броши, браслеты, серьги – очень красиво.

Недалеко есть прекрасное озеро. Здесь местные жители ловят рыбу. А это монастырь. Древний монастырь. 14 век. Теперь мы внутри монастыря, очень красивые церкви. И снова озеро.

А это внутренний двор. О, барбекю. Монахи готовят мясо. Видите, там теплицы. Они выращивают овощи. И ещё одна церковь.

Мы зашли в местный ресторан. Ресторан русской национальной кухни. Посмотрим. Внутри почти никого нет. приятная атмосфера, и, надеюсь, вкусная еда.

Это разные соления. Огурцы, помидоры, капуста, всё солёное и очень вкусное. Русский борщ. Подаётся с мясным пирожком и, конечно, сметаной. И пельмени. Моё любимое русское блюдо. Со сметаной и укропом. Это русские блины, обязательно с икрой. Выпить можно традиционный русский напиток. Сбитень. Это разные травы и мёд. Подаётся горячим.

Modern-day Rostov is a small and quiet touristy town in the central Yaroslavl region, with several main streets dominated by two-story buildings. It is situated about 200 kilometers from Moscow, on the bank of Lake Nero, whose serene beauty adds to Rostov's small-town charm.
The main attraction is the Kremlin of Rostov. What distinguishes the Rostov Kremlin from other fortresses, you will learn from this video.

Abandoned Russian village where my father was born

The village of Egoshino is a typical Russian village in the center of the European part of Russia. Before the revolution, it was part of the Vyatka province. Until 1987, Vyatka Province was the second most populated province of the Russian Empire, second only to the Kiev Province.
After the revolution, the village of Egoshino became part of the newly formed region - the Mari ASSR (now the Republic of Mari El).

Life in the village of Egoshino, as in most of the surrounding villages, began to fade away even in Soviet times. Young people went to study in the cities and never returned. Among these young people was my father.

The collapse of the Soviet Union was fatal for all the surrounding villages. Collective farms began to die, and people began to move to larger settlements.

For the first time, my father showed me and my brother the place where he was born in 1998. At that time, people lived only in four houses, the rest of the houses were abandoned. At the end of the 90s, we were children and did not fully realize what had happened. My brother and I did not understand how my father and grandfather felt when they walked through the overgrown streets of the village between abandoned houses.

The second time we came to the village in 2009. At that time only one house remained inhabited, and the surrounding fields were already actively overgrown with forest.

In 2018, there was no one left in the village. All the houses are abandoned, and a forest appeared on the agricultural lands. We went into some houses and captured the latest testimonies of people's lives. Nature slowly but surely returns everything back.

During our trips, we also regularly visited the village of Bakhtino and holy water springs, as well as the village of Maskanur (rural administrative center). Now the process of depopulation has covered larger settlements. Now it is the turn of the rural administrative centers to return to nature everything that was taken from her earlier.

Rostov-on-Don Ablaze In Massive Fire

The fire which broke out in the historic center of Rostov-on-Don in the afternoon on August 21 was extinguished only in the morning on August 22. As a result, one person is dead and nine others were hospitalized. The fire damaged 123 apartment buildings and private houses. Law enforcement agencies report that the fire occurred as a result of arson in several locations. Victims of the fire believe that their houses were burnt down on purpose to clear out an expensive land plot in the city center to construct elite housing. For details, see:

Driving M4 from Domodedovo to Rostov-on-Don (Russia)

Our drive down the Russian M4 from Domodedovo to Rostov-on-Don in July 2015. A rather boring although generally smooth drive of 1000km.

The first residential building in St. Petersburg: Cabin of Peter the Great

The cabin of Peter the Great (is a small wooden house which was the first St Petersburg palace of Tsar Peter I.

The log cabin was constructed in three days in May 1703, by soldiers of the Semyonovskiy Regiment. At that time, the new St Petersburg was described as a heap of villages linked together, like some plantation in the West Indies. The date of its construction is now considered to mark the foundation of the city.

The design is a combination of an izba, a traditional Russian countryside house typical of the 17th century, and the Tsar's beloved Dutch Baroque, later to evolve into the Petrine Baroque. Peter built similar domiki elsewhere in Russia - for example, in Voronezh, and Vologda. The wooden cabin in St Petersburg covers only 60 square meters (650 sq ft) and contains three rooms - living room, bedroom, and study. It has large ornate windows and a high hipped roof of wooden tiles. Inside, the wooden walls were painted with red oil to resemble brick, and the rooms came to be known as the red chambers. There are no fires or chimneys, as it was intended to be used only in the warmer summer months. It was occupied by the Tsar between 1703 and 1708, while Peter supervised the construction of the new imperial city and the Peter and Paul Fortress.


The cabin was moved to its present location, 6 Petrovskaia Naberezhnaia, in 1711 from its original site on the north bank of the River Neva close to the present Winter Palace. Peter had it encased for its protection within a red brick pavilion in 1723 and ordered that it be preserved for posterity as a memorial to his modesty, and the creation of St Petersburg ex nihilo. Catherine the Great ordered the shelter for the cabin to be renovated in 1784, and the protective brick pavilion was reconstructed by Nicholas I in the 1840s. Nicholas I also had the bedroom converted into a chapel dedicated to Christ the Redeemer, and iron railings were added in 1874.

Peter's domiki were used to mark significant dates, such as the bicentenary of Peter's birth in 1672. They became a center of devotion to the tsar, the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Russian motherland. An image of the log cabin was included on the Peter the Great Fabergé egg, created in 1903 to celebrate the bicentenary of the founding of St Petersburg. After the Russian Revolution, they became symbols of Russian heroic labor.

A prized national monument, the contents were removed, and the Cabin was boarded up and camouflaged during the Second World War. It was the first St Petersburg museum to reopen in September 1944, after the end of the Siege of Leningrad. Personal and domestic objects owned and used by Peter are still displayed within, and a bust of Peter by Parmen Zabello stands outside. The cabin is open to the public as a branch of the Russian Museum.
