Traveling Spoon, Chiang Mai, Thailand- Cooking With A Local, Thai Cooking Class
We spent a day with Nid from Traveling Spoon, a company that connects travelers with locals to get a true experience. Nid picked us up early in the morning in Chiang Mai and we headed to a local Thai market. After picking up fresh ingredients including Banana Flower, Pork, Old Style Coffee, and many other native Thai plants, we then headed to Nid's Parents farm in Lamphun, Thailand. On the farm we picked herbs and chilies to use in our cooking.
This was an awesome experience for anyone who wants to experience Thailand as a Thai does on a daily basis. We got to learn about fruits we've never seen before even after a year in Thailand.

Unique and RARE THAI FOOD in Chiang Mai, Thailand! | Best Restaurants in Chiang Mai Tour

T-shirts and caps:
CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - In this video I’m going to show you a mix of restaurants and street food in Chiang Mai - and everything a little rare, unique, or unheard of. We ate a one of a kind satay in Chiang mai for breakfast, had rare Thai food for lunch, and amazing seafood for dinner - but seafood in Chiang Mai? I’m going to share all the restaurants with you here.
Beef satay (เนื้อสะเต๊ะใต้ต้นข่อย) - For breakfast we went to a small street food stall serving a unique type of beef satay (เนื้อสะเต๊ะ). It was cool to sit down right where they were being grilled and eat stick after stick. The beef was so juicy, but the sauce was a little sweet for me.
Price - 5 THB ($0.15) per stick
Saiyut's Kitchen (ครัวอาจารย์สายหยุด) - This is a top restaurant in Chiang Mai that serves a mix of high end, Royal, and old family Thai recipes. Here are the main dishes we ordered:
Saeng wa goong (แสร้งว่ากุ้ง)
Nam prik kai boo (นำ้พริกไข่ปู)
Chaw muang (ช่อม่วง)
Kratong tong (กระทงทอง)
Karawaek sodsee (การะเวกสอดสี)
Room (หรุ่ม)
Chiang da pad kai (เชียงดาผัดไข่)
Khao yam (ข้าวยำ)
Pla tod samoon prai (ปลาทอดสมุนไพร)
Gaeng ranjuan (แกงรัญจวน)
Mee krob Chaowang (หมี่กรอบชาววัง)
The food was overall quite good. It’s not always my personal favorite type of Thai food, but I did enjoy the food here, and the presentation and history. Food is more on the sweet side than spicy side. Well worth trying when you’re in Chiang Mai.
Total price - 1,725 THB ($52.31)
Lerd Rote Tai Rom Ma-Feuang (เลิศรสใต้ร่มมะเฟือง) - Finally on this best restaurants tour of Chiang Mai we decided to go to a restaurant that many locals from Chiang Mai recommend for seafood. Yes, I was a little hesitant to eat seafood in Chiang Mai, considering its distance from the ocean, be we went for it. Turned out to be quite an amazing seafood meal, although expensive, it was delicious.
Shrimp chilies salt (กุ้งพริกเกลือ)
Tom yum fish (ต้มยำปลา นำ้ใส)
Black pepper crab (ปูผัดพริกไทยดำ)
Total price - 2,000 THB ($60.65)

THAI FOOD BEST DISH? | Khao Soi in Chiang Mai, Thailand | Travel Vlog 040, 2017
Whats the best Thai food dish? We're in Chiang Mai, Thailand and today we went on a mission to find a Thai noodle dish called Khao Soi ( a Thai food dish), which is a northern Thailand traditional local noodle cuisine. Often spelt as Kao Soi as well, it's like a mix of Pad Thai and a Curry - so much flavour, a little spicy, generally with meat, and comes with delicious crispy noodles on top. We also hit a workout and had 2 of our collab videos go live with some top global publishers - very happy!

COOKING THAI FOOD AT A FARM IN CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
We love eating Thai food so we decided we'd try our hand at learning how to cook our favorite Thai dishes at an organic Thai cooking school just outside of Chiang Mai, Thailand located in the scenic and peaceful Thai countryside. We learned how to make Thai green and yellow curry paste; Thai cashew nut and vegetable stir fry; Thai spring rolls; Tom Yum soup with shrimp; Thai coconut curry, Pad Thai and Thai Mango Sticky Rice.

You know we love to eat, so today we've signed up for a cooking course where we're going to learn how to make some of our favorite Thai dishes. Right now we're at the local market, so we're just going to be walking around picking out some of the ingredients we'll need today for the class. Let's have a look.
Judging from the amount of cooking videos we make you'd probably think that we're constantly in the kitchen and that we always like to cook. That couldn't be further from the truth. Most of the time when we're on the road we eat out, so this is actually kind of an excuse to get into the kitchen and cook and to actually try and make food because normally we don't do that.
We have now arrived at the Thai Farm Cooking School. We drove about seventeen kilometers outside of Chiang Mai and it is a completely different world out here. We're just surrounded by nature and an organic farm. We're actually going to be picking a lot of vegetables from here.
We had a choice between doing the cooking course in the city or going out to the countryside and I think we've made the right decision.
Now clean rice already.
Please come inside. I would like you to pick by yourself the whole leaf basil.
I'm making my Yellow curry paste. Pound, pound, pound! Harder! Faster! Stronger!
So Sam is lagging a little behind right? Come on. Master Chef here - look at that. Perfection. No, I really am lagging behind, I better hustle up.
I'm making a yellow curry today. This is mine. This is what I created and Sam went for the green curry, so this is his. And I'd like to point out I don't think he did a very good job. Oh, that just fell in there. What is this? Whatever. Total chunks. You get an F!
Alright, oh! It's boiling! It is not supposed to boil.
We're making the Tom Yum soup. Mine is going to have shrimp and I've got my coconut milk here, so I'm going to be adding some ingredients - mushrooms, onions.
I'm ready to try fine creation. This is my Tom Yum with shrimp. Let's see. I made mine really sweet. I think maybe I put in to much sugar but it is kind of nice and creamy because I used coconut as a base. You need to add more salt or fish sauce then. Mine does need more salt. How is yours?
You look like a farmer drinking soup. I'm keeping this hat I swear. I'm quite happy with mine. I put quite a bit of salt in it and I also put fish sauce.
I'm making my Yellow curry now. I'm just stirring the coconut milk. I put in the curry paste I made earlier.
I was wrong about this dish. It is not a stir fried rice. It is just a vegetable stir-fry. It's really good. I made one with chicken and string beans and mushrooms and here is my yellow curry with potatoes and pumpkin. Is it good? Uh-huh.
We saved the very best for last. Here we have our favorite Thai dessert - Mango Sticky Rice - and it has some deep fried Mung Bean on top. It is crispy. This is going to be good. Alright, let's check out that first bite. It is nice and coconut-y and it is amazing.
So overall that was a really cool experience learning how to cook Thai food. I made five different dishes. I'm beyond full. Like I feel like I'm ready to hibernate now.
So this was 1100 Baht. It was like lunch and dinner and the thing I really liked about this particular school was that it was out in the countryside where we were able to get outside of the city and away from the pollution and whatnot and just have a really cool organic cooking experience:
This is part of our Travel in Thailand series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Thai culture, Thai arts, Thai foods, Thai religion and Thai people.

Postcard & Tag meets Traveling Spoon in Bangkok, Thailand
Ellie: Hi, I'm Ellie. I'm a Postagger from Postcard & Tag. And this is Pia.
Pia: Sawadee ka! I'm a host for Traveling Spoon.
Ellie: We've been to the market already. Klong Toei Market. And now you are going to show me and my mum how to ...
Pia: Yup, today the menu is:
Fish with tamarind leaf and lemongrass soup
Grilled chicken with coconut milk
Mango sticky rice
Ellie: Wow I like that. One of my favourite dishes. So how did you get involved with Traveling Spoon?
Pia: I was introduced by my friend. He's been doing this before me in Bangkok. I enjoy it. A lot of guests - they all love cooking and eating Thai food. Sometime they come by - the whole family: parents and kids. Or sometimes the honeymoon couple, just married. And some of them still keep in touch, by asking for more recipes and tips - how to do this, how to do that.
Ellie: Ah, they come back to you for more advice!
Pia: Yes, by Traveling Spoon.
Pia: So in my cooking classes I want to show the travellers how to pick the vegetable, to pick the ingredients for cooking.
Pia: This is the grilled chicken with herbs and coconut milk. This is my recipe so enjoy!
Pia: I would recommend this to all the travellers. They will have different experience from just going to a normal cooking class. This is home cooked. You can see, you can learn how people eat and how people like the taste.
Ellis: Thank you so much Pia, that was so nice. What a really lovely afternoon we've had here with you. Love the food. Love the market visit. That was great.
Always remember to keep on discovering with Postcard & Tag!

Modes of transportation around Chiang Mai, Thailand
A short video showing some of the ways to get around Chiang Mai. Begins with transport by Samlor (3 wheel bicycle), then tuk, tuk (3 wheel taxi), horse drawn carriage (in nearby Saraphee), bicycle (very popular now) Segway (rentals now available near Thapae Gate) and ending with a plane leaving the international airport. While not including everything (songtaews - red buses - are missing), you'll get some idea what's available. Many charters do group bookings, but every mode of transport can be booked individually. And don't forget, Chiang Mai is a great place just to walk around (just be careful of uneven pavement, potholes etc...
