Hiking 60 Miles Alone in Hornstrandir Iceland
Map and Guide -
I didn’t know Hornstrandir existed until a week before I arrived upon its shores. You’ll feel incredibly isolated on this hike because the landscape is devoid of trees and people. The windy peninsula jutting over the top of the West Fjords is home to beautiful cliffs, lush green valleys and arctic foxes. The extremely dramatic and photogenic Horn at the end of the trail is the climax of the hike. The giant green slopes are home to thousands of sea birds nesting in the towering cliffs that depend straight into the crashing ocean. This hike reminded me so much of Hideo Kojima's game Death Stranding.
This hike is slightly difficult due to the isolation. You have to bring everything you need with you because there’s nowhere to re-supply. There are no roads. You need to be precise with your roundtrip ferry reservations. There are a few sharp cliffs with ropes to guide you up and down. There are small and large stream crossings depending on the tide. The route I took was about 50-60 miles long with about 12,000ft of elevation gain and took me about four days to hike.

Mountain Hiking in Iceland near Reykjavik - July 4, 2012
Here on a 9 day vacation/filming/adventure trip to Iceland with son Mark ( his friend Josh, and Kelly & Marcus of Skylight Films ( to do some 2nd unit filming scenes for an upcoming children's movie Good Kid Bad Kid.
In the evening of the 2nd day, we decided to go on a hike to the top of a mountain just NW of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. It took us about 5 hours to go up & 1.5 to go down ... my iPhone that I was filming on died (battery went dead) while I was filming checkpoint 5, but I didn't actually go any further as Marcus & Kelly were way ahead of us, did get to checkpoint 6 & were ready to head back down. It was about 1:30 AM in the morning .. they were pretty much the top & had a fantastic view down to Reykjavik & the other nearby valleys. It was still bright daylight when we arrived back to our hotel in Reykjavik, around 4 AM in the morning, LOL.

Is Iceland's Blue Lagoon A Lavish Luxury? | Destination Debunkers
INSIDER's A.C. Fowler heads to Iceland's Blue Lagoon, a natural hot spring. Is it a lavish luxury or an overpriced public pool?
The Blue Lagoon is in Grindavík, a 45-minute drive from Iceland's capital Reykjavík, a quickly growing tourist hot spot. The area is a perfect blend of city and country living.
A.C. tests how crowded it is, if it's worth the $58 admission, and if the lagoon's water and mud really have healing properties.
The Blue Lagoon is one of the most visited destinations in Iceland. 80% of tourists who come to the country trek to the famous thermal waters.
While the physical lagoon is man-made, the natural geothermal waters are sourced from a nearby geothermal field.
The peak season is the summer, so the best time to visit the Blue Lagoon is in the winter.
CEO Grímur Sæmundsen said, To be in the Blue Lagoon and having the Northern Lights, there's nothing that beats it.
The Blue Lagoon also acts as a facility for skin care research, so it makes sense that its biggest selling point is its natural silica mud masks.
Make sure you head to the lagoon early in the day to beat the crowds. Keep it mind that it can be pricey, so make sure you're picking a package that fits your needs. And don't be afraid to lather on the complimentary silica masks.

Iceland, Reykjavik in January - Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle and more! 4K
My wife and I spent 4 nights in Iceland in January 2016. Our highlight was probably the Blue Lagoon but Iceland is just an amazing place that anyone should visit if they get the chance.
The weather was unusually warm, so we didn't actually see much snow. Also the rain and grey skies meant that we couldn't see the northern lights (a good excuse to go back).
All captured on my GoPro Hero 4 Black in 4K, 29fps. I also use my Feiyutech G4 QD stabilising gimbal.
Make sure, if you liked the video, hit the like button and feel free to ask any questions about this amazing destination; i'll try and answer them as quickly as possible.

Iceland Travel Tips - What footwear do I need?
Footwear for Iceland
What footwear should you pack for Iceland? We discuss the factors that go into deciding which footwear you should bring to Iceland and also give our best suggestions after doing some research for our upcoming trip in June!
SHOW NOTES
INTRO
One of the most annoying things while traveling can be if you don’t have the right footwear. Kinda like on a day like today - I’m wearing my normal walking sneaks and ended up walking off trail - it’s wet, slippery and uncomfortable. Well today I’m going to give my suggestions on what footwear you should bring with you to Iceland.
Depends on a couple factors
When are you going to be in Iceland
October - February
Temps range from 14 - 50F
Precipitation peaks with southern and western parts receiving the most rainfall
North, East and inland Iceland experience colder winter temps and warmer summers with less snow and rain
Summer Months
Conditions are fairly mild with temps around 44 - 77F
Fairly dry during this time
Where do you plan to Explore
Reykjavik - city life
The Golden Circle Attractions
Special Activities
Glacier Hikes
Crampons for boots
Most like do tour that includes that in the price or available for rent
Suggestions
Comfort
Warmth
Protection
Waterproof
Durable
Weight
What am I going to wear?
We are going in June when it’s fairly warm and dry
But we are visiting many natural attractions
Merrell Boots
Very comfortable
Waterproof
Protection
Ankle
Rocks
Water
Altra Timp - trailrunners
Light
But not waterproof
Durable
Good for hiking - rock guard on bottom
Could wear Gaiters with gaiter guard
Very comfortable
multi-purpose
Lounge wear
Sneakers
Flip Flops
Conclusion
I’m leaning towards the boots
What do you think I should wear
Have you been to Iceland before and what did you end up wearing?
