Father and Son Day Hiking at Occoneechee Mountain in Orange County, North Carolina
A visit to Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area, located just off of Interstate 85 and just outside the town of Hillsborough, in Orange County, central North Carolina. About three miles of hiking trails await you in this small but scenic area near the Eno River.
Occoneechee Mountain is a monadnock. A monadnock is originally a Native American term for an isolated rock, hill, knob, ridge, or small mountain that rises abruptly from a gently sloping or virtually level surrounding plain (Wikipedia). Monadnocks are somewhat common throughout the piedmont region of Virginia and North Carolina.
Occoneechee Mountain, at 867 feet above sea level, is the highest point of Orange County. According to park literature, it's also the highest point between the mountain and the Atlantic Ocean far to the east. The area is recognized as one of the most important ecological natural areas of the Triangle (central NC). The area supports many rare species of plants an animals that became trapped on the mountain. There is a wide variety of terrain within the park. Highlights include the mountain trails, the Eno River, Panther's Den and other rock formations, and the remains of an old quarry.

Powell A. Moore began his career in politics in 1966, when Senator Richard B. Russell appointed him as his press secretary. After Russell's death, Moore went to work in the Justice Department as deputy director of Public Information under President Nixon. He then developed a foundation client and consulting business called the Marketing Corporation of America. In 1981, he was appointed to serve President Ronald Reagan as deputy assistant to the president for Legislative Affairs. In 1982, he was appointed assistant secretary of state for Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs. In 1998, he became chief of staff for Senator Fred Thompson in Tennessee. Moore was later sworn in as assistant secretary of defense for Legislative Affairs under President Bush in 2001. In 2006, he was appointed representative of the U.S. Secretary of Defense to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and in this capacity was stationed in Vienna, Austria. Moore discusses the various presidents he has worked under, his opinion of party politics in Georgia, and his friendship with Richard B. Russell.

Kanyakumari - where three seas unite!
Southern-most tip of India! Kanyakumari - where three seas unite! The waters of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean mingle here, in a tumultuous clash of waters.... People bathe in the ocean to take in the experience.
This is a video of people thronging the beach of Kanyakumari, to witness the Majestic Hills, Temples and Churches and most of all, to catch a firsthand glimpse of the sun setting. It looks as if the sea swallowed the reddened and exhausted sun. Kanyakumari or Cape Comorin is a town in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. This place is located in the southernmost tip of the country and it is where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean meet. Kanyakumari is famous for viewing Sunrise and sunset. Some of the famous tourist spots are Vivekananda rock, Kanyakumari Gandhi Memorial, Kanyakumari Kamaraj Memorial, Kanyakumari Thiru Valluvar Statue and Kanyakumari Church.

Beautiful Horse Farm in Chatham County NC
This historic 1897 Antebellum was built for Captain O. D. Palmer, along with four other Palmer homes, one of which is a museum in New Bern, NC. This beautifully renovated home with over 3100 square feet sits atop a knoll with a commanding panoramic view of hay fields, pine and hardwood forests and a stocked fishing pond. The land is rich in history, from shipping ore down the Deep River during WWII to providing food and shelter for soldiers from the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. This secluded gem provides solitude and nature, farming and recreation, all within 30 to 45 minutes of Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Greensboro and Fort Bragg.
Within this 150 acres of paradise, there are 70 acres of hay fields, 50+ acres of pines and native forest, the Deep River, two creeks, a fishing pond, a newly built hay and equipment barn, a renovated grain barn used as a care takers house on its own services, plus a horse barn with five acre fenced pasture, a work shop with four rooms, two car garage and a recreation room with full bath and partial kitchen.
The original home still stands but has been rebuilt over the years from the floor joists to the roof, which includes a complete renovation in 2005 through 2015 to provide all the modern conveniences with a sleek country home feel. Sit in the Carolina room for morning coffee and watch the sunrise over the trees or enjoy a glass of wine on the front porch, surrounded by beautiful flowering perennial plants and a massive vegetable garden. Graze on blueberries, pick herbs for your tea or pop a sweet snow pea in your mouth. The sunset over the hayfields will take your breath away from almost any room or porch seat, the colors too intense to look away from. Of the three large bedrooms, the master suite faces south along the entire back half of the house where you can open the French doors to listen to the sounds of birds and let the breeze lull you to sleep. Sit in the formal dining room with its exposed beams and fireplace for an elegant evening meal or enjoy a warm fire in the oversized living room, all with many large windows to bring in nature.
For entertainment, play some ping-pong in the recreation room, kayak down the Deep River, and ride horses through the trails along the property or fish for spell in the pond. Try your hand at craft making in the workshop, maybe start a vineyard or plant crops, restore old cars or store hay in the large barn. There is a reason it is called Utopia Plantation.
This home is also designated by Duke Energy as highly energy efficient, rated month after month in the top one percent most efficient homes in the area.
