???????? Weird London 3 - Longplayer at Trinity Buoy Wharf
Longplayer is a self-extending composition by Jem Finer which is designed to continue for one thousand years. It started to play on 1 January 2000, and if all goes as planned, it will continue without repetition until 31 December 2999. It will restart on that date.[1]
Longplayer is based on an existing piece of music, 20 minutes and 20 seconds in length, which is processed by computer using a simple algorithm. This gives a large number of variations, which, when played consecutively, gives a total expected runtime of 1000 years, that is 10 centuries. It uses Tibetan singing bowls and gongs, which are able to create a range of sounds by either striking or rolling pieces of wood around the rims. This source music was recorded in December 1999. It was commissioned by Artangel.
Longplayer could be heard in the relaxation zone of the Millennium Dome in London during its year of opening in 2000. The piece was also played in the 19th century lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf and other public listening posts in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia and Egypt, where it can still be heard today.[2] It can also be heard via an Icecast Internet stream, hosted (as of 2008) by Greenwich-based SPC.
Four excerpts of Longplayer were released on a vinyl LP.

BOW CREEK CAFE Trinity Buoy Wharf East London - Vlog 14
A cute and quirky cafe nestled in trinity buoy wharf, east London.
From the outset this cafe seemed very different, a black cab perched on the roof, desks for tables, even a babies pram for a plant pot!
The cafe has a family run feel - with home-cooked favourites such as omelettes, fish finger sandwiches and not forgetting the British favourite - a good ol' fry up!
With chaos in the kitchen and smashing of plates, our visit was kept calm with the quirkiness of the café and the charm of the front of house, we assume is the mum.
A great find, if you're in the area check it out!

Forgotten Oasis Trinity Buoy Wharf, GB
This is a video project for ARC 408 London. What you will see is a depiction of how we view the Urban Landscape- a series of forgotten oasis are found amongst an at first uninviting barren land. Underlying themes in the video include the value of art in this abandoned landscape, natural and street art, the historical value of the land and how much potential it has, and a message of how the barriers may impact visitors to stay away. The artist featured in the video is Don Paul Smith. Students include: Sarah Guardia-Ayvar, Dan Kalinowski, Roy Moriel, Lauren Sloan
Wedding @ House of Commons and Trinity Buoy Wharf, Greenwich
The wedding we shot for Katie and Steve. Bride preps began at the Park Plaza County Hall Hotel with stunning views of the Thames and Westminster. Then we shot across the water and through security checks to the House of Commons for the ceremony. Then we all hopped on a boat to the destination for the Reception - Trinity Buoy Wharf - right across from the Dome. Check out the nice little time-lapse towards the end looking across the river to the 02 and the cable car.
Here is what Katie + Steven thought of the video...
We are so pleased that we chose Save the Dog as our wedding videographers. Jon was incredibly helpful in the run up to the day, offering help and advice throughout. After the wedding we couldn't wait to see the DVD and I must admit I had moments where I wondered what would be on it as I couldn't remember seeing the cameras on the day. I needn't have worried. They seemed to have been there at all the right times, capturing the atmosphere on the day perfectly. The fact that I didn't notice the cameras is testimony to how discreet Jon and his colleague were when filming on the day.
We have watched it countless times since and can't thank Jon enough for giving us a film that we will treasure forever. Thank you Jon!
Grand Union Orchestra - What the River Sings, Trinity Buoy Wharf, Sunday March 4th 2012, 4pm
The Grand Union Orchestra contribution to the BBC's London 2012 Olympics Cultural Festival, Music Nation. Trinity Buoy Wharf, Sunday March 4th 2012.
A Water City Festival Project
in collaboration with the Grand Union Orchestra
For the BBC's Music Nation, part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad
What the River Sings expresses the musical character of London's East End in the 21st Century through the people who live there, and the varied cultural traditions they have been born or brought up in. It also celebrates the long history of this fascinating part of London -- gateway to Britain -- at the atmospheric location where the River Lea joins the Thames.
The programme is built around music from The Golden Road, The Unforgiving Sea -- commissioned from Tony Haynes by the BBC for the combined forces of the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Grand Union Orchestra, broadcast on Radio 3 in March 2011 -- together with other works celebrating centuries of sea-borne trade, travel and migration, specially created for this extraordinary collection of performers.

The performers
For this event the Grand Union Orchestra and the Grand Union Youth Orchestra are joined by the Water City Festival Orchestra, led by the internationally-acclaimed violin virtuoso Michael Bochmann and conducted by Rupert Bond, which brings together students, music teachers and amateur musicians of all ages; and a large choir combining Hackney Voices and the Hackney Empire Community Choir with other singers.
Between them, these ensembles represent many different instrumental and singing traditions from European classical and folk to jazz and various forms of world music. All those involved (professional and amateur) live or work locally, and their instruments range from orchestral brass, wind and strings, Latin percussion and jazz rhythm section to sitar, sarangi, tabla, dhol, baglama (saz), congas and steel pans -- complemented by a variety of vocal styles from gospel and West African chant to Portuguese, Turkish and Bengali songs.
