Florida Travel: Visit the Truman Little White House in Key West
Since 1890, history has left its mark on the Truman Little White House. Initially, it served as the naval station’s command headquarters during the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II. In 1946 the historic building first served as the winter White House of President Harry S. Truman and a site for the Cold War response by later presidents. Today, the Truman Little White House is a public, living, Key West museum as well as a retreat and place of government business by our nation's leaders.

Wow, what a wedding! Everything about Kate and Gregg's wedding day was amazing! The entire Harry S. Truman's Little White House was theirs' for the day! Couple that with amazing planning by Swankey Events, beautiful floral arrangements by Milan Event Floral and throw in an amazing wedding couple and guests and you have something special! I was thrilled to be able to roam the property all day and capture some amazing footage for Kate and Gregg as well as the great crew over at the Little White House to share with their patrons.
When I first arrived to begin capturing for the wedding day video, I saw flowers being placed at what looked to be an astonishing ceremony location. The entire rear lawn of the Little White House was setup with chairs and flowers. It certainly got me excited as I knew there would be great things to come! Plenty of space, lush gardens and an American historic property as the backdrop made Kate and Gregg's ceremony lovely! They even wrote their own ceremony. That's right, not just the vows, but the entire ceremony! Everything about this day was unique.
After the lovely ceremony, we had the pleasure of drifting over to the nearby Fort Zachary Taylor Florida State Park to capture the sunset. There was an additional wedding taking place there, but with so many wonderful locations on this preserved property, we were able to simply venture around and capture the beauty of the park for Kate and Gregg as they strolled around.
Finally we headed back and enjoy the rest of the evening on site at Truman's Little White House. Kate and Gregg had the best DJ I have probably every heard and I believe the guests would agree as they danced all night. Not to mention there was an extremely large full moon that night! It was simply a pleasure to work with this wonderful couple and I hope you all enjoy sharing in their special day through the wedding video below!

Truman's little white house
Forget Mar-a-Lago, The Real Winter White House is in Key West - March 19, 1949
What started out as military quarters has grown into a pivotal building in our country's history over the last 50+ years. It could be considered the original Winter White House, but we call it the Truman Little White House due to the fact that President Harry S. Truman truly fell in love with Key West while he was here.
He even said the city was his second favorite city in the world - second only to his hometown.
The Little White House has hosted dignitaries from many countries, as well as the President and top military brass of the United States. It's also been the site of several important documents that changed the course of history - The Key West Accord and The Marshall Plan are among them.

John F. Kennedy - October 10, 1960 - Little White House
John F. Kennedy made a campaign swing through Georgia on October 10, 1960. One of his stops was at Roosevelt's Little White House. Several patients at the nearby Georgia Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation (GWSIR) were brought to see him. I was a patient there at the time and was included. I grabbed my camera and took several photos. Thank goodness I always took my camera with me.
Villa Azul - #276 in the Truman Complex in Key West
WOW - clean, fully equipped, perfect location, reserved parking spot in gated community. Just 2 of us this trip but wouldn't hesitate to stay here with another couple. Plenty of space, very quiet unit and complex.
We walked everywhere we went - Hemingway's house, USCG Museum, Mallory Square, all over Duval Street. Green Parrot is only 2 blocks away, Blue Heaven is a 2 block walk for breakfast. A wonderful 6 block, 15 minute walk and you'll find yourself sipping a cool beverage at the iconic Sloppy Joes or equally fun Captain Tonys.
All appliances in excellent condition including a near new looking washer & dryer. Wireless internet was fairly fast. Ceiling fans throughout unit. All linens & towels were in good condition and clean.
Not really anything bad to say about this unit. We love Key West and hope we are lucky enough to be able to stay in this condo on future visits.
