The Bronx is a borough of New York City. It's known for Yankee Stadium, the home field of the New York Yankees baseball team. Dating from 1899, the vast Bronx Zoo houses hundreds of species of animals. Nearby, the sprawling New York Botanical Garden features a landmark greenhouse with rainforest and cactus displays. By the Hudson River, Wave Hill is a landscaped public garden with wooded paths and a cultural center.
The Bronx - sometimes abbreviated as BX in the city, and nicknamed The Boogie Down - with a population of 1,455,444 (2015 Est), is the only one of the five New York City boroughs that is mainly on the mainland of the United States, and not on an island (there are smaller adjacent islands that are part of the Bronx, and also an extremely small portion of Manhattan, called Marble Hill, lies on the mainland). The Bronx was originally part of Westchester County but was gradually annexed by New York City. The Bronx was completely incorporated into the city in 1898.
The Bronx is the only borough with the word “The” commonly associated with its name. That’s because in the early 1600’s, a Swedish settler named Jonas Bronck bought the land from the Native Americans who occupied the territory at the time. Whenever other land owners in the area wanted to travel to that area they would call it “The Bronck’s Land”, after his family name. At first he planned to use the land to grow tobacco crops, but it had a marshy terrain and hills, and therefore couldn’t grow anything on it.
The Bronx has a strong character all its own. It is the birthplace of rap/hip hop music and home to one of the country's most storied professional baseball teams, the New York Yankees, also known as the Bronx Bombers. Many ethnic groups have called the Bronx home over the years. Arthur Avenue is still a center of Italian American culture in New York, and many claim it has a more authentic feel than Manhattan's Little Italy. The South Bronx is more of a struggling area, but is the center of Puerto Rican culture and life. University Heights and Morris Heights are largely Dominican neighborhoods, while Woodlawn maintains a large population of Irish immigrants.
While the southern and central Bronx are mostly comprised of apartment buildings and densely built, the physical environment of the Bronx is more varied than what is normally portrayed in the popular media. For instance, Riverdale is a residential neighborhood of mostly detached single family homes located on bluffs overlooking the Hudson River. It looks more like a quiet suburb in The Bronx. Bronx Park and Van Cortlandt Park are two large and notably tranquil green spaces. City Island, located in Long Island Sound but officially part of the Bronx reminds people more of a small New England fishing village and is worth a visit. And there is a traditional downtown area called The Hub at 149 St. and Third Avenue. While not as large or extensive as the downtown area of major city, a lot of stores are in that location and it is more than just a neighborhood shopping district.

President Donald Trump is a member of the elite Winged Foot Golf Club in Westchester New York. It’s now being reported that members have had to come out swinging because the club is refusing to honor him by putting up an official portrait of the President.
Insiders report that the Republican members amongst the 800 total members of the exclusive golf club which charges as much as $200,000 in initiation fees have been lobbying to put up a portrait of President Trump inside Winged Foot’s stone clubhouse. But opponents are refusing to do so. One insider went on to state that President Donald Trump has been a member since 1969 and there is a big push to honor him at the club. He later also added that all members should be proud that the president of the United States is a current member of Winged Foot, “It is prestigious to have him here.” But the senior club management thinks otherwise.
The club was contacted for an official statement on the matter but there has been no reply as of yet. Although there is speculation that the decision not to honor President Trump is either to avoid driving a wedge between members, some of which include many prominent New York law firm partners and investment bankers who are left-leaning in political views, or a financial move so as not to offend any charities or organizations that may wish to hold events there.

Trump Golf Links Ferry Point is a 222-acre parcel in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx, located on the east side of the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, which crosses the East River and connects the Bronx with the borough of Queens. It’s bordered by housing to the east, while the western boundary is lined by the Hutchinson River Parkway, and the course can be easily accessed from all of New York City’s boroughs.
The 7,400-yard Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, designed in consultation with Sanford Design, will be operated by the Trump Golf team and will be a part of the global golf portfolio of native New Yorker and avid golfer Donald Trump. Scheduled to open to the public in 2015, with some programming—primarily junior golf—available in the summer 2014, Ferry Point will offer spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline from most of its 18 holes. Ferry Point will be a nearly treeless, Irish links-style course, designed to look mature from its early years and featuring tall, flowing native grasses and dunes with teeing grounds that rise as high as 55 feet above grade.
“I think Ferry Point will be a tremendous golf experience,” Nicklaus said. “I’ve been asked to create something that is world-class, a source of pride for New York City, and if they wanted to hold a national or international event, a course that will be a strong golf course from the back tees. Most important, the course needs to service the needs of those in the Metropolitan New York area who hopefully will play Ferry Point.

For decades in the U.S., there have been isolated incidents of removal of Confederate monuments and memorials, although generally opposed in public opinion polls, and several U.S. States have passed laws over 115 years to hinder or prohibit further removals.
In the wake of the Charleston church shooting in June 2015, several municipalities in the United States removed monuments and memorials on public property dedicated to the Confederate States of America. The momentum accelerated in August 2017 after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The removals were driven by the belief that the monuments glorify white supremacy and memorialize a treasonous government whose founding principle was the perpetuation and expansion of slavery. Many of those who object to the removals, like President Trump, believe that the artifacts are part of the cultural heritage of the United States.The vast majority of these Confederate monuments were built during the era of Jim Crow laws (1877–1954) and the Civil Rights Movement (1954–1968). Detractors claim that they were not built as memorials but as a means of intimidating African Americans and reaffirming white supremacy. The monuments have thus become highly politicized; according to Eleanor Harvey, a senior curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and a scholar of Civil War history: If white nationalists and neo-Nazis are now claiming this as part of their heritage, they have essentially co-opted those images and those statues beyond any capacity to neutralize them again.In some Southern states, state law restricts or prohibits altogether the removal or alteration of public Confederate monuments. Staten Island () is a borough of New York City, coterminous with Richmond County, in the U.S. state of New York. Located in the southwest portion of the city, the borough is separated from New Jersey by the Arthur Kill and the Kill Van Kull and from the rest of New York by New York Bay. With an estimated population of 479,458 in 2017, Staten Island is the least populated of the boroughs but is the third-largest in land area at 58.5 sq mi (152 km2). The borough also contains the southern-most point in the state, South Point.
The borough was referred to as the Borough of Richmond until 1975. Staten Island has sometimes been called the forgotten borough by inhabitants who feel neglected by the city government.The North Shore—especially the neighborhoods of St. George, Tompkinsville, Clifton and Stapleton—is the most urban part of the island; it contains the designated St. George Historic District and the St. Paul's Avenue-Stapleton Heights Historic District, which feature large Victorian houses. The East Shore is home to the 2.5-mile (4 km) F.D.R. Boardwalk, the fourth-longest boardwalk in the world. The South Shore, site of the 17th-century Dutch and French Huguenot settlement, developed rapidly beginning in the 1960s and 1970s and is now mostly suburban in character. The West Shore is the least populated and most industrial part of the island.
Motor traffic can reach the borough from Brooklyn via the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and from New Jersey via the Outerbridge Crossing, Goethals Bridge and Bayonne Bridge. Staten Island has Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus lines and an MTA rapid transit line, the Staten Island Railway, which runs from the ferry terminal at St. George to Tottenville. Staten Island is the only borough that is not connected to the New York City Subway system. The free Staten Island Ferry connects the borough across New York Harbor to Manhattan and is a tourist attraction which provides views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Lower Manhattan.
