Tun Bu Village

Yun Feng Tun Bu, Guizhou

In the Qiyan Town, Anshun City of Guizhou, are scattered more than 40 well-preserved Tunbu villages. Yun Feng Tun Bu Scenic Area is the most representative one. It comprises eight Tunbu villages such as Yunshantun, Benzhai, Leitun and Xiaoshanzhai.

According to historical records, Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, once deployed his troops to start Southern Expedition, aiming at conquering the southern China. After the Southern Expedition, the troops were ordered to station and farm the wastelands. Yun Feng Tun Bu was the core area where the troops stationed.

Today, the defense walls, watchtowers, lanes and residential buildings of the Tunbu villages in Yun Feng Tun Bu Scenic Area are well preserved. The residential buildings were courtyards (Siheyuan in Chinese), featuring the characteristics of those in the southern China.

Tianlongtun Village and Dixi Opera

There are such a group of people living in today's Anshun area in Guizhou Province . They have been retaining the living and cultural customs and wearing, the most popular Chinese costumes of hundreds of year ago. if you visit here, it will seem as if you were immediately stepping into a time channel and entering a real world of costume drama.

Torrential Rains Hit Swathes of China

Torrential rains hit various parts of China on Tuesday and Wednesday, killing several people and causing severe property losses.

From Tuesday to 08:00 Wednesday, the severe rainstorm battered 20 cities and counties of southwest China's Guizhou Province and triggered floods and landslides, with a rainfall of over 200 millimeter in most areas, according to the Guizhou Meteorological Station.

Over 410,000 people were reportedly affected by the rainstorm, especially in Guiyang, Tongren, Anshun, and Qiannan, and more than 20,000 people were evacuated to safety.

A total of 16.104 hectares of crops were affected by the disaster, while 352 houses collapsed and over 650 damaged, according to the statistics released by the Guizhou Civil Affairs Bureau.

The Guizhou Meteorological Station has intensified weather monitoring and issued rainstorm and lightening warnings every day.

Local civil affairs authorities have also started emergency plans and sent out working groups to the disaster to help with relief work.

In Hunan Province, central China, by 17:00 Wednesday, 52 counties with a population of 1.157 million had been affected, five were killed and two were missing, according to local civil affairs authorities.

Heavy rains converged in the middle and lower reaches of the Yuanshui River and pushed up the water levels in several reservoirs including the Dongting Lake.

Mi Na (Chinese: 米娜; pinyin: Mǐ Nà; born 1980) is a Chinese painter.
Mi was born in Anshun, Guizhou in 1980. She received her master's degree from Minzu University of China and joined the faculty of Beijing Union University.
Mi received the Gold Reward of the Qi Baishi Young Artists Price (齐白石艺术新人奖) in 2004.

Citizens speak out - 29 Jul 2011

Citizens speak out. People in countries like China, Kosovo, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Syria, and Yemen continue to gather as they call for greater human rights and freedoms for themselves and fellow countrypersons alike.

SAUDIA ARABIA - A Saudi activist stated on Wednesday, July 27 that the government had released 44 of the 93 protesters arrested during rallies over the past four months, while the Human Rights First Society reported some had been subjected to mental and physical torture during their detainments.

KOSOVO and SERBIA - Police commandos agreed to withdraw from two border checkpoints on Wednesday and were replaced by members of a North Atlantic Treaty Organization-led (NATO) peacekeeping force as the UN Security Council called an urgent meeting to resolve recent tensions between the two countries.

CHINA - Members of a crowd that had gathered in Guizhou province's Anshun city on Tuesday clashed with police as they protested the previous beating of a disabled fruit vendor, which they said resulted in her death. Chinese officials pledged to investigate how she had died, saying they would conduct a medical autopsy.

YEMEN - Security forces on Wednesday wounded at least four peaceful protesters as they fired on pro-democracy rallies in Ibb city and the town of Ra'da.

LIBYA - Recognizing the Libyan Transitional National Council as the country's legitimate representative, the British government also announced that £91 million in oil assets would be unfrozen to aid the Libyan people's basic needs. In addition, the Transitional Council appointed Mahmud Nacua as its ambassador to the UK.

SYRIA - Activists reported that on Wednesday, Syrian security forces raided Kanaker, just south of Damascus, killing at least 11 people, wounding others and arresting more than 250 residents of the town.

As we sorrow for the lives lost and the plight of those injured and oppressed, we pray that the strife in all nations may stop, as people everywhere choose dignity and freedom in a peaceful world.

Nuo mythological Opera in China

Nuo opera is traditionally performed in South West China, since ancient times. It depicts a conversation between ' Man and the God'. The masks used are called 'Pu sa Lian( Buddha's face). The performing artists when they put on the masks after the rituals, are
regarded as the ' Representatives of the God'. As per the ancient Chinese believe, Nuo Operas are performed for getting the blessings of the Almighty, for the well being and harmony of the mankind.
