Shopping for custom made dresses in Hoi An, Vietnam | Hoi An Tailors and Custom Designers
In our latest travel video we hop on our bicycles and pedal around the old quarter area of Hoi An, Vietnam in search of custom made dresses for Audrey at the many tailors and custom designers found in and around the central part of town. With over 200 different tailors clustered in Hoi An, it's a rather daunting task to narrow down the selection to just a few different stores. Without a specific shop or store in mind, we had no idea where we'd end up.
Luckily, after spending several days exploring Hoi An, a few specific dresses caught Audrey's ever discerning eye. Audrey clearly has a much better eye for this kind of thing than I do ;)

When we finally settled on a specific shop Audrey found multiple dresses she liked, but eventually settled on just three to buy. I'm sure it was difficult for her to not walk out with the entire store.
I played the role of wonderfully considerate boyfriend holding her bags and carrying our money around with us. To be honest, I had fun watching her shop because I knew she was having the time of her life.
The tailor made some adjustments to help the dresses fit perfectly and we ended up paying roughly $18 USD for each dress with a slight discount. I'm sure we could have bargained further; however, we were happy with the price and thought it was a win-win situation.
For those shopping in Hoi An for clothes, we recommend visiting several tailors and not feeling overwhelmed by the at times very aggressive nature of the vendors. Being patient and looking around is the key to getting the best deal.
It's best not to put down a large deposit on any clothing you purchase as it gives very little incentive for the shop owners to make any potential alterations if needed. Instead pay a minimal deposit and pay the final amount once you've had a fitting and are happy with the end results.
Remember to bargain and shop around before making your final decision. With a plethora of stores to choose from taking your time will ensure you get the best quality clothes.
Often the prices first quoted are not the ones you end up having to pay - especially if you buy multiple items at the same store. Even if you don't enjoy the back and forth associated with bargaining, you'll be far more respected - even by the shop owners - by doing this:

Hoi An is famous for making tailored suits at a very reasonable price, we ordered one and went around town with our Boosted Board. We had so much fun we ordered a second suit, a neo classic traditional Cheong Sam that are typically worn in Kung Fu movies like the ones where Jet Li played the legendary Wong Fei Hong in Once upon a time in China.
Check out what other mischief we got up to in this magnificent town. If you have enjoyed our video, please like and subscribe.

Top 10 reasons why Hoi An is Vietnam's best Travel Destination
Hoi An is a magical place and my favorite city in Vietnam.
It's beautiful old town as well as the surrounding nature are simply breathtaking. Take a few days off from reality and go back in time
to traditional vietnamese villages and white beaches. Enjoy some of the best seafood you will ever have while waiting for the tailors to finish your new dress or suit. At night the city turns into a dreamworld as thousands of lotus lanterns light up, which the Vietnamese believe bring happiness to their families. Couples release lotus lanterns into the river to manifest their love or take a romantic boat ride after strolling though an ocean of lights.
Nearby travel destinations are the amusement parks Bana Hills and Vinpearl Land (see my review video) and Da Nang.

Không Có Chỗ Chen Chân Trong Ngày Tết Nguyên Tiêu Ở Phố Cổ Hội An - Hoi AN ancient Town
Hoi An is a picturesque river-side town in central Vietnam with an amazingly beautiful Ancient Town which comes alive at night with hundreds of lanterns above the streets. It's also a tailoring hotspot so we spent our entire day shopping up a storm! Hopefully this city guide will give other travellers a little peak inside this bustling city. Next time we explore even more of Hoi An on a sunset cruise down the river!
Film Co Ba Saigon (The Tailor) About Vietnamese Fashion (sub) | ao dai sài gòn
Hallyu World’s host, Hyesoo, met with the producer and cast of Co Ba Saigon (The Tailor) – the hottest Vietnamese movie debuted at 22nd Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
Being compared as the Vietnamese version of the Devil wears Prada, the movie is a romantic comedy about Vietnamese women in 1960s, featuring the vibrant fashion culture and lifestyle of Saigonese. The history of Ao Dai also plays an important part in the movie. This is indeed a rare movie from the modern Vietnamese filmmakers with an ambition to revive the traditional culture with such national symbolic feature.
In “The Tailor,” the vibrant fashion world of Saigon meets the Ao Dai, the traditional Vietnamese dress, in a movie that criss-crosses 48 years from 1969 to 2017. Arrogant Nhu Y is the daughter of a famous Ao Dai designer in Saigon, but is also only interested in western outfits, so she ignores the traditional dress. One day, she accidentally shifts in time to the future, becoming someone very different. Meanwhile, her mother’s tailor has become the best designer in Vietnam. The film shows the process of Nhu Y’s transformation, from opening her eyes to the beauty of the Ao Dai in the future, to rebuilding the ruined family business.
Co Ba Saigon (The Tailor) is co-directed by Ngo Thanh Van – Veronica Ngo, the multi-talented producer who has also acted in some Hollywood blockbusters, including Bright which also features Will Smith, Joel Edgerton and Edgar Ramirez; and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny together with Michelle Yeoh, Donnie Yen and Jason Scott Lee. Van also plays a Resistance gunner in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, scheduled to premiere soon.
During the interview, this Vietnamese movie star and producer revealed her ambition to bring back traditional culture through this movie.

Vlog #123: Tuong Tailor and Fitting Room!
Hoi An, Vietnam | TRAVEL VLOG
Our trip through Vietnam’s most atmospheric and beautiful old town of Hoi An; a mix of wooden Chinese shophouses and temples to colorful French colonial buildings, ornate Vietnamese townhouses and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge.
Plus, lots of great food, bakeries, bespoke tailored suits, Banh mi and some exceptionally cheap local beer along the town's beautiful canal, littered with candle-lit lanterns.
Hội An is recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
