This week we are in Iron County on one of the most beautiful bodies of water in the state of Wisconsin, The Turtle Flambeau Flowage. This flowage was created in 1926 when a dam was constructed on the Flambeau River. It’s a popular summer destination for anglers, campers, and hunters; all of whom enjoy almost a completely undeveloped shoreline.
Our guide Jeff Winters, and his son-in-law Ed are both guides, and know this water very well. Jeff has been fishing this area his whole life, and knows a LOT of spots - we don’t stay in one spot very long. We are fishing a few days after a severe cold front, so the fish are not as cooperative as we would expect. Jeff, however, is the guy you want on a day like this. He will move a lot, and will find fish. When you do find the fish, anglers that want to take home a fish fry won’t be disappointed because there is no size limit on walleyes.
A minnow and a weedless jig are the best combination on our outing, outperforming plastics for most of the day.

2013 06 16 WIDSR RIVER MONSTER 017
My biggest sturgeon caught so far on the North Fork Turtle Flambeau River in Northern Wisconsin while fishing for small mouths. 61.5- about 50#. Took about half an hour to finally wear down enough to have my friend David get it by the tail and Roger had to turn off the video to get the head and lift it in the boat. The biggest fish II have caught and would not have been possible with out the use of my new ElectroMate electric drive on a Penn SSG 550 reel. This $500 combo on a $20 pole. Thought the pole was going to break! I had a pole break last year and lost a nice one. We are going to mount a GOPRO for our next adventure!

12_2017 - Big Dave in the WI Dells - FULL EPISODE
Show Date: March 18th & 19th, 2017
Location: Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
Guide: Curt Bregar [414-861-5612]
The rives are opening up in some parts of the state of Wisconsin, and our go-to river expert Big Dave Ehardt invited us to get out on the water and catch some fish. Along with us is Dave’s nephew Curt Bregar, who is now guiding the river with all of the knowledge he’s learned fishing with Dave as he grew up. Also along is one of Dave’s long-time friends Dennis.
We are using live bait, as well as plastics. Live bait seems to get the fish going better than the artificial lures on this trip, and with the temps dropping quite a bit, the fish aren’t in the best of moods.

DeHavilland Beaver - Camping on the Turtle Flowage with my Son
Camping with my youngest son Nathan on a wilderness island in the Turtle Flowage, in northern Wisconsin. (all cellphone vid)
The wild and wonderful Turtle-Flambeau Flowage in northwestern Wisconsin, preserved by the state, is considered a mecca to both land and water recreation. Outstanding fishing and Camping opportunities abound. Plenty of islands to choose your own campsite. First come / first serve. We searched and circled with our DHC-2 Beaver to find our special campsite.
Walleye are the dominant species most often targeted, but smallmouth bass and elusive 50-inch trophy muskie are sought out as well.
The outstanding wilderness aesthetics are a major attraction. The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage is managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to protect the plant and wildlife communities and preserve its scenic qualities. The flowage has the highest number of bald eagle, osprey and common loon breeding pairs of any Wisconsin lake. Shore birds and migratory waterfowl use the flowage as a breeding and staging area.
The Wisconsin DNR allows primitive camping for free on a first-come, first-served basis at designated sites, all only accessible by water.

Four Days Fishing Northern Wisconsin at Lake of The Falls Campground
Every year I go on a six day fishing trip with my buddy Reggie. This year I also took along my Nephew Matthew. Usually my brother Brian goes with too, but he passed away recently, so this is our first trip without him.
We fished many lakes including, The Turtle Flambeau Flowage, Mercer Lake, Grand Portage Lake, Moose Lake, and Pine Lake.
A recent cold front passed through, so the fishing was slow, but we still managed to get a few. We camped at Lake of The Falls Campground located on the channel between Lake of The Falls, and The Turtle Flambeau Flowage. The weather was great, and we experienced no rain for the first time in years!
