Free the Turtles - Sea Turtle Sanctuary in Mazatlan, Mexico! | Craig & KJ
While aboard the RUBY PRINCESS cruise ship, we disembarked in MAZATLAN for a once in a lifetime experience at the Estrella de Mar Baby Turtle Conservatory. The sanctuary at the resort houses biologists who save and release hundreds of thousands of baby turtles each year. We were able to name and release our turtles - only two hours old - to learn about their drive and instinct to be in the sea. It was amazing. Sea turtles are Craig's spirit animal, so this was especially meaningful for us.
We truly had an amazing time aboard the Ruby Princess! Check out our FUN ship tour video highlighting the ship's amenities - and all of our excursion videos! Subscribe to be notified when new videos are posted!.

During the past year alone, the Turtle Sanctuary at Estrella del Mar has released 120,000 olive sea turtles into the wild. Their efforts have increased the survival odds for these amazing creatures ten-fold.
We were fortunate enough to witness a mass release of young turtles into the wild - a truly amazing highlight of our trip.

Royal Princess Mexico Cruise - Truly Unique Excursion: Marine Baby Turtle Encounter
DISCLOSURE: Special thanks to Princess Cruises for hosting our family on this Medallion Class cruise.
Hey Cruisers,
Today we are in Mazatlan as we continue the adventures of our Royal Princess Mexican Riviera cruise. We cruise into balmy Mazatlan bright and early just in time for wonderful view of the port from our stateroom balcony. We meet our guide at the dock, and board a comfortable bus for the relaxing trip to the turtle sanctuary at Estella del Mar. This is a truly unique Princess Excursion that starts with a visit and introduction to the Turtle Sanctuary. The official name of this excursion is: A Day At The Beach & Marine Baby Turtle Encounter. The Estrella del Mar Turtle Sanctuary is dedicated to the protection, rehabilitation and conservation of the sea turtle within its natural environment. Here, marine biologists gather endangered gulf turtle eggs and incubate them in a safe environment. The eggs are placed at the exact depth that the mother laid them and allowed to incubate for 45 days. Normally, hatchlings would immediately return to the sea, but the sanctuary allows the tiny turtles time to gain strength before placing them back on the sand during the night when they are less visible to predators so they can make their dash to the ocean.
We we fortunate enough to participate in a mock turtle release on the beach. This Princess excursion may not always include a mock turtle release, so we were happy to have the opportunity. You'll get a good look at the mock release in this video. From there we board the bus again for a very short trip to the resort where we will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch, hours of fun on the beach, and hanging out in the hot tub. Our time on the beach was just priceless family time, and something I think we'll all remember and treasure. After the excursion it's back to the dock. We encounter a brief wait at the port, but it's not long before we are back on the Royal Princess. We book reservations at Royal Princess' Sabatini's. We'll give you a good look a the food, and close out this cruise vlog with a review of the day. Thank you all for following along on our Royal Princess Mexican Riviera cruise. We have more cruise adventures to share including our stop in Puerto Vallarta.

Turtle Release 11/13/16 Santuario Playa El Verde Camacho
Due to the endangerment of sea turtles, the Santuario Playa El Verde Camacho was created with the goal to help increase the sea turtle population. The organization is a catch and releaze program that studies and monitors sea turtles on the pacific coast.
On our annual Mazatlan trip, we visited the sanctuary to learn about and help release some of these sea turtles.
In honor of my dear friend Emily, who had passed away a few days prior to me leaving for the trip, I dedicate this to her.
For more information about the sanctuary, visit
ps- I really wish I filmed this horizontally.

The city serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipio, known as the Mazatlán Municipality. It is located at 23°13′N 106°25′W on the Pacific coast, across from the southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula.
Mazatlán is a Nahuatl word meaning place of deer.[1] The city was founded in 1531 by an army of Spaniards and indigenous settlers.[2] By the mid-19th century a large group of immigrants had arrived from Germany. These new citizens developed Mazatlán into a thriving commercial seaport, importing equipment for the nearby gold and silver mines. It served as the capital of Sinaloa from 1859 to 1873. The German settlers also influenced the local music, banda, which is an alteration of Bavarian folk music. The settlers also established the Pacifico Brewery on March 14, 1900.
With a population of 438,434 (city) and 489,987 (municipality) as of the 2010 census, Mazatlán is the second-largest city in the state. It is also a popular tourist destination, with its beaches lined with resort hotels. A car ferry plies its trade across the Gulf of California from Mazatlán to La Paz, Baja California Sur. The municipality has a land area of 3,068.48 km² (1,184.75 sq mi) and includes smaller outlying communities such as Villa Unión, La Noria, El Quelite, El Habal and many other small villages. Mazatlán is served by General Rafael Buelna International Airport.

Mazatlan Mexico / Riu Emerald Bay 2017
We did a family trip along with a few friends in January to the beautiful Riu Emerald Bay. This hotel is absolutely amazing. Everyone looks over the ocean, and the place has amazing food with a few awesome local spots that are only walking distance from the hotel. We did a turtle release tour that was incredible. I would highly recommended this resort and city for a visit.
