Loop Hike in Harriman State Park, NY
Seven of the RoughNex from three different states meet at a trailhead in Harriman State Park on a Friday night....
This hike was a beautiful example of what New York State has to offer. We went over Catamount Mountain and had a stunning view at night of Hawk Cliff and eventually stayed at Stone Memorial Shelter for the first night. We woke up and hiked towards Big Hill Shelter on the second day seeing and experiencing nature's best.

The CANEADEAN BRASS - Glory Look Away
Located in western New York state, the small town of Caneadea has never had much to boast about. But now, with the founding of The CANEADEAN BRASS, they will at least have a music group. Formed in the latter half of the 20th century, this group of musicians has had its share of paying gigs as well as 2 live recordings. Their level of musicianship is remarkably consistent - a unique sound that they can truly call their own. They are truly in a league of their own. The CANDEADEAN BRASS is a brass quintet who's shows were comical sketches, slapstick humor and tongue-in-cheek whims accompanied by occasional stretches of serious classical and pop music performances.
From a recording of a live performance given in Wesley Chapel at Houghton College, Houghton, NY. May 3, 1996

Chasing Colors
A short movie about fall foliage in Harriman State Park. At 46,613 acres (188.64 sq. km), Harriman State Park is the second largest state park in New York. Located in Rockland and Orange counties 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, it is a haven for hikers with over 200 miles (320 km) of hiking trails. The park is also known for its 31 lakes, multiple streams, public camping area, and great vistas.
I started from Suffern, NY with Suffern-Bear Mountain trail. Went all the way till egg shelter, and then brushed through Pine Meadow lake following the Pine Meadow Trail. Merged into Kakiat Trail following the water streams to the Woods on the same trail after Seven Lakes Drive. Merged into Blue Disc for the higher elevation and then got out to Tuxedo via Tuxed Mt Ivy and Ramapo Dunderburg Trails.

Sterling Lake Fire Tower - New York
This is the spectacular view from the 100 foot tall firetower at the top of a mountain overlooking Sterling Lake in Northern New Jersey. Sterling Lake is part of Sterling Forest, a public park with wonderful hiking trails and a pristine natural area. It also contains remnants of the historic Sterling Furnace, which was used to process locally mined iron, some of which was used to build the Great Chain across the Hudson to protect Colonial America from British warships. My guide today was Hal from anhoutdoors.com.
Elaine Freed Lindenblatt talks about the Red Apple Rest, PART 1
This video is a must-see for anyone familiar with the legendary Red Apple Rest, located at the southern end of New York's Orange County, on State Route 17, and which was, for decades, a major pit-stop for vacationers making their way up to, or back from, New York's Catskill region.
The speaker, and author of the Book, Stop at the Red Apple: The Restaurant on Route 17, Elaine Freed Lindenblatt, is the youngest child of the founding owner of the Red Apple Rest, Reuben Freed. This particular discussion took place the evening of March 3, 2017, at the clubhouse in the beautiful community of Villaggio Village of Windsor, located at the western end of Lake Worth, FL. There is also a Red Apple Rest website and Facebook page.

Walking The Appalachian Trail (Harriman State Park)
Walking through Harriman State Park is a great experience. This video shows some of the spectacular views on the Appalachian Trail.
A word of advise for anyone planning to take a hike through the park. BRING A MAP! Also, study the map before you set off. We happen to veer off in the wrong direction and end up taking the LONG way to Bear Mountain. In any case, it was a lot of fun. ENJOY!
