Owenglin Circuit Twelve Bens Galway
This tough 23 km circuit in the 12 Bens of Connemara in County Galway offers some of the best hillwalking in Ireland. Steep quartzite peaks tower over valleys of vivid green and pink bog-land inset with serpentine rivers and deep blue lakes. Beyond, the ragged coastline with ribbons of yellow sand is washed by the restless Atlantic Ocean. This 12 summit circuit will take in the region of 12 hours to complete and involves a climb of over 2,000m ascent. It is not for the faint hearted and will require high levels of fitness and navigational proficiency, especially in poor weather conditions. It is best tackled in the long hours of daylight during the summer months. This one's for you, Captain V!

The Bog Road - Connemara - County Galway - Ireland
A real time spin down the Bog Road in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. It is was made around 6.00 pm on the 2nd September 2016. As you will see the weather was kind, depending on your point view, i.e. it was not raining. You overlooking the Twelve Bens, or Twelve Pins (Irish: Na Beanna Beola). If visiting do this drive on a sunny day for a great view or a rainy one for a great atmosphere and a sense of isolation. It would be great for a bike ride as well as to drive. Pour terminer la journée en beauté, nous avons entrepris une randonnée d'environ 7 km aller-retour (boucle) en direction du sommet du Diamond Hill qui culmine à une hauteur de 445 mètres.
Cette montagne est située dans le parc national du Connemara et appartient à la chaîne des Twelve Bens.
Le sentier est très bien balisé. Il débute au centre des visiteurs et nous amène directement au sommet... avec quelques efforts tout de même.
Le paysage est grandiose et change à tout instant. Parfois, nous marchons sur des ponts de bois qui nous permettent de traverser les tourbières, parfois nous montons une à une chaque pierre posée sur le sentier.
A certains endroits, le sentier est vraiment escarpé et plus on se dirige vers le sommet, plus la force du vent augmente.
A chaque tournant, on s'imagine que nous sommes rendus au sommet, mais ce n'est pas le cas. Alors, nous poursuivons notre chemin, éblouis par la beauté et l'immensité de cette magnifique région.
Nous sommes vraiment récompensés lorsque nous atteignons le sommet du Diamond Hill. Nous avons une splendide vue en 360 du Connemora: vallées verdoyantes, lacs, landes rousses, tourbières.
Nous avons fait cette randonnée en 02h30, pauses photos comprises.

Le lac Derryclare, un oasis de paix, se situe sur la route N59, à environ 16 km de la ville de Clifden.
Au milieu du lac se trouve un îlot recouvert d'arbres et derrière ce lac s'étend la majestueuse chaîne de montagnes Twelve Bens.
Une petite promenade en pierre traverse le lac et nous permet ainsi d'accéder à cet îlot.
Le site est facilement accessible et la beauté sauvage de cette région mérite grandement que l'on y fasse un arrêt.

Connemara National Park & Visitor Centre in Galway, Ireland
Connemara National Park occupies nearly 3000 hectares and is located in the very western part of County Galway. It is a great place from which to experience the rugged yet beautiful scenery and landscapes of Ireland.
The Park Visitor Centre is based out of Letterfrack which is only a few miles from the Atlantic coast, just about as far west as you can go in Ireland. Located just 15km from Clifden, 53km from Westport and 82km from Galway City the park is best visited by car or tour bus although there are some public bus services available. The Visitor Centre is open from March through October while the park grounds are open throughout the year.
The Visitor Centre offers an exhibition and information desk, a Cafe and a Playground for the kids. Nearby Diamond Hill can be climbed along four different walking trails. Free Connemara Pony Rides are occasionally available but be sure to check the schedule so you arrive when this free service is provided.
The park makes up only part of the overall region known as Connemara which covers much of Galway and part of Mayo. Several days could easily be spent exploring the towns and villages of this picturesque location. Hikers and explorers will certainly enjoy the parklands, lakes and forests. Connemara includes the towns of Clifden and Oughterard and includes between 20,000 to 24,000 native Irish speakers in the region making it the largest Irish speaking Gaeltacht in the country. Kylemore Abbey is one of the most notable tourist attractions in the County while fans of the film 'The Quiet Man' will enjoy visiting nearby Cong, where the movie was shot.
A very good tip when planning your visit to Connemara or indeed just about any rural location in Ireland, is to time your visit with a festival event. Just about every town in Ireland has a festival during the year when streets are closed off, musicians play into the small hours and traders display their wares and stalls.
Remember, a lot of the villages you encounter in Connemara will be very small indeed, some only having a population of a few hundred people, or even less. Festivals bring a lot of people into these villages and there are festivals for just about everything!
Connemara is a fantastic place to explore and you could spend an entire week visiting Galway. The nearby Burren and Bunratty Castle, Oughterard, Kylemore Abbey, Clifden and the Connemara National Park are all on the doorstep of Galway city which makes a great base from which to travel the western part of Ireland.
Situated in the West of Ireland in County Galway, Connemara National Park covers scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands and woodlands. Some of the park's mountains, namely Benbaun, Bencullagh, Benbrack and Muckanaght, are part of the famous Twelve Bens or Beanna Beola range.
A number of walking trails beginning at the Visitor Centre offer walkers a variety of scenic routes and nature trails through the park. Stunning vistas from the 400 metre high Diamond Hill include the distant islands of Inishbofin, Inishturk and Inishshark, and the turreted Kylemore Abbey. The park is also home to Connemara ponies, red deer and an enormous variety of bird-life, including skylarks, stonechats and peregrine falcons.
Other remnants of times past include ruined houses, a disused lime kiln, old sheep pens, an ice house, ancient walls and Tobar Mweelin, a well which was formerly used to supply water to Kylemore Castle.
The Visitor Centre features include exhibitions, the ‘Man and the landscape’ multi-lingual audio visual show and tea room (seasonal). Entrance to the Visitor Centre is free of charge. A summer programme of guided walks and special events for younger visitors are also available at the Visitor Centre. Connemara is one of six such national parks in Ireland.

A day tour to Connemara in western Ireland. First stop is the bridge made famous in the John Wayne movie The Quiet Man, then we travel through Maam Cross, viewing the Twelve Bens and finally through the Inagh Valley.

Clifden would be the main town in the Connemara region of Ireland. It has some of the best restaurants and great hotels and is an excellent base point to explore the wonders in the countryside around it.
Clifden is coastal town in County Galway ( Ireland, in the region of Connemara, located on the Owenglin River where it flows into Clifden Bay. Clifden is usually referred to as the capital of the city because it is the largest town in the region.
This town in Connemara is always headed for when it comes to tourism because it is the first choice that people go for. From the different places of interest that one could visit in Clifden and around it, there is the Twelve Bens - sometimes referred to as Twelve Pins - which is a mountain range of sharp-peaked quartzite ranges located northeast of Roundstone in Connemara. Another touristic attraction in Clifden is Connemara National Park which is one of six national parks in the Republic of Ireland, there is also Sky Road which is a long drive along Clifden Road and Streamstown Bay with views of the Atlantic, Clifden Castle, coast-guard station, the islands of Inishturk and Turbot and the town. Adding to those, one could also visit the Inishbofin in Clifden which is a small island off the coast of Connemara, Slyne Head lighthouse, as well as the Derrygimlagh Bog which is a natural wilderness of blanket bog located 6 km south of Clifden and the site of the Alcock and Brown crash-landing and the Marconi transatlantic wireless station.
There are usually lots of different things for one to explore when it comes to travelling because people do not always follow the same rules and thus some might fall upon specific places which others didn't get the chance to pass by.
From those places which are considered more known for the people when it comes to the attractions of Clifden, there is Clifden Castle, Connemara Heritage and History Centre, the Whitethorn Gallery, Connemara National Park and Visitor Centre, the Station House Museum, and the Rifle-Sebastian Sculpture.
We believe that Connemara is a place of contrasts, colors, and wilderness - it might not only be about Clifden which is just one stop in Connemara, but it is about the place as a whole. In addition to Clifden, there are different other towns in Connemara which one could stop by and check (according to the attractions that might be found in every single one of them or even the activities that could be done there). These towns in Connemara include Oughterard, Maam, Recess, Roundstone, Cashel, Carna, Ballyconneely, Cleggan, Claddaghduff, Letterfrack, the Renvyle peninsula and Leenane.
Connemara in general is a place with a landscape that is magnificent and which mainly goes to its location as well as the harsh conditions that it might be passing through all year long. Speaking of Connemara in general and not just Clifden at this point, there are some beautiful places to go to in it such as the different beaches that it hosts, the Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Garden, the Omey Island Walk, as well as the Connemara National Park.
We didn't get the chance to pass by all those different towns and of course not all those attractions as well, but when we were in Clifden and took this footage back home with us, we were actually thrilled by the beauty of the place and the nature that the eyes are always settling on in the town.
There are different activities in Clifden that one could enjoy and which include cycling, mountain climbing, walking, hiking, pony riding, as well as those other water activities that could be performed and which include swimming, surfing, kayaking, and diving - if you chose the right time of the year to go to Clifden then you will enjoy getting into these activities and will also get the chance to enjoy the salty water, so always make sure you are heading to this place during the right time to enjoy as much activities as you can.
One good thing to enjoy while being in Clifden is the Clifden Farmer's Market in which traders and sellers come to the town of Clifden in order to sell their fresh produce to the public every Friday morning, so make sure to pass by this market and see what it holds out there for you.

Après avoir visité le château de Kylemore (voir vidéo:
nous avons pris la route N59 qui longe le Lough Kylemore, un des plus grands lacs de la région du Connemara.
Par la suite, nous avons pris la la route R344 qui sillonne la vallée d'Inagh et nous permet d'observer de majestueux paysages.
Le Lough Inagh (53°31'00.6N 9°44'15.0W) est un magnifique lac situé dans cette vallée. Il sied au pied de la chaîne de montagnes des Twelve Bens.
Nous avons repris la route N59 et avons fait un court arrêt à Recess. J' ai profité de l'occasion pour photographier le monument du Géant du Connemara. Ce monument est situé sur le stationnement qui fait face à la boutique Joyce's Craft Shop.
Une légende raconte que si vous touchez la main de ce géant, il vous protégera.
Nous avons poursuivi ensuite notre chemin (routes R336 et R345) en direction de Cong pour y visiter l'abbaye (voir vidéo ainsi que le château d'Ashford (voir vidéo
