10 Facts Movie Theaters Don't Want You to Know
We all love movie theaters for the special feeling they give with fantastic special effects, complete sound immersion and the taste of popcorn. Would you still love them just as much if you found out their secrets movie theater owners don’t want you to know? We’re going to unveil 10 movie theater secrets.
In cinemas, many people can’t always keep their feelings to themselves and that’s normal. For example, a movie about cannibals called Raw appeared to be too hard to watch for a couple of visitors at The Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. The people fainted and one of them hit his head badly during the fall.
Digital devices can do everything on their own, and there are more automatic processes at a cinema than there were during the previous century.
Keep it in mind that in case there are some problems with a projector (the image is blurred, not centered, etc.), you’ll have to stand up and go notify a staff member in the lobby.
20% of the population, including Johnny Depp himself, simply can’t perceive those three dimensions. Harvard Medical School neurobiology professor Dr. Margaret S. Livingstone explains it could be due to stereo-blindness when eyes can’t see in 3D because of the way they are aligned.
If you love cleanliness that much, try to visit the cinema in the morning and avoid going there on Friday and Saturday nights when a lot of other people go out to the movies.

SUMMARY
-Theaters have to pay a lot to film studios in the first two months of distribution so they have to make their money out of concession.
-The cinema staff members who manage to prevent movie theft get a $500 prize.
-The younger generations buy a ticket when two movies start simultaneously, and one of them is not R-rated.
-A movie about cannibals called Raw appeared to be too hard to watch for a couple of visitors at The Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. The people fainted and one of them hit his head badly during the fall.
-One couple stuffed a truckload of food into an infant’s car seat and went to watch a movie. A girl from put some pasta into zip-lock bags and brought them into the cinema with her.
-3D glasses give you an illusion of being inside a movie and it drives your visual analyzer crazy.
-Even though a movie projector has to be programmed during the day, there’s nobody sitting in the booth when you watch a movie.
-A short break between two movies is not enough time for a cinema staff to thoroughly clean up a theater.
-Someone who loves to fight will always find a reason to do so. It could be that someone took someone else’s parking place, they talked on the phone during the movie, or someone is chomping too loudly.
-Thanks to security cameras, movie theater staff can spot and kick out couples that go too far on their “loveseats”.

This is the site of an old frozen food manufacturing plant called Tenneva. We saw a date stamped on some stonework outside that read 1931.
It is a beautiful area with lots of opportunity but has been vacant for years. I had to record this with my Note4 because my wife had the Nikon, but we will try to go back to get better shots.
Here is an article about the place:
The man in the article has since given up on the project and moved back to NY. Sorry for the poor quality and for also not knowing the difference between a silo and a smokestack. Haha!

Lucy Farr's Barn Dance- Maelee Taylor on fiddle w/ Kermit Possum Killers at Cameo Theater
The Kermit Possum Killers- Maelee showcases her fiddle magic on a waltz-time version the Irish Lucy Farr's Barn Dance while Elisabeth is off stage re-tuning her banjo from sawmill tuning. So called sawmill tuning on the banjo was first introduced to early recording audiences by Clarence Tom Ashley from East Tennessee in the late 1920s at the second Johnson City sessions. Love this tune- it must be the Irish in me.
The Kermit Possum Killers old time string band, with members from both southwest Virginia and east Tennessee, performed on stage at the historic 1925 Cameo Theater on State Street in downtown Bristol, Virginia (just across the street from Bristol, Tennessee). The Kermit Possum Killers were performing tunes that reflect this region's authentic original sounds of Old Time fiddle and banjo tunes. Their LIVE performance was simultaneously broadcast on the Tri-Cities Top Gun radio's three local radio transmitters on 870 AM, 96.3 FM, 100.7 FM, and their station feed was streaming on the Internet at wpwt.streamon.fm. This band was on the stage and on air from 1 pm until 3 pm on Saturday 9 September 2017. The Kermit Possum Killers were followed from 3 pm till 5 pm by a bluegrass band Fireball Mail from Nashville, Tennessee which was also booked for Saturday night at The Down Home in Johnson City, Tennessee.
The historic 1925 Cameo Theater and the three radio stations (10,000 watt WPWT-AM and the two FM translators) were under common ownership at the time of this performance and remote broadcast. The Cameo began in circa 1925 as a vaudeville venue and later began screening motion pictures, probably before talkies were introduced. See some pictures of the interior of the Cameo circa 1925:

Late comment:
Ironically the station owner sold the restored theater building shortly after the Kermit Possum Killers performed in September 2017 and the radio stations (keeping the same bluegrass and country formats) were re-branded from the late 1960's Tri-Cities Top Gun to The Possum. The world can be a strange place.
The Possum- WPWT 870 AM, 96.3 FM, 100.7 FM, and streaming at (wpwt.streamon.fm) country, old-time, and bluegrass format.
Tri-Cities Top Gun was the branding used by the new Kingsport, Tennessee based station WGOC in 1967. I was studying in Knoxville at the time and the WGOC modern country format and sound was very much reminiscent of Knoxville's WIVK AM/FM which had to be one of the country format standards of the day in 1967. Tom T. Hall was a favorite of both WIVK and I back in the day.
The following information was extracted from WHGG Facebook entries.
This station (WHGG now) signed on the air in 1967 with call letters WGOC and a modern-Nashville-country music format. The original owner was insurance mogul J.T. Parker, and the first station manager was Phil Roberts, who was hired away from crosstown station WKIN where he had been a popular morning host. The first song played on the air on the morning of sign-on was Washed My Face In The Morning Dew by Tom T. Hall. The 45-RPM disc hung on the wall of the station's original lobby on West Center Street in Kingsport until the studios were moved elsewhere in the 1980s. The original power was 1,000 watts and the station originally operated sunrise-to-sunset, with 6am-to-sunrise power of 7.85 watts. The original transmitter location, which was abandoned in the 1970s, was at the intersection of West Stone Drive and Granby Road in western Kingsport. Management WHGG shares the same management as sister stations WHGB and WPWT.
(The WGOC AM transmitter site relocated to a ridge top off Catawba Lane near Indian Springs when it remains to this day. This also involved a frequency reassignment and change in class of service.)

Shocking video shows brazen shooting in broad daylight in Fairfield
Warning: graphic content:
A 28-year-old man gunned down at a Fairfield gas station in March was apparently killed in a dispute over an engagement ring, and the brutal shooting was captured on store surveillance video.
Adarius Elon Williams, a father of four who celebrated a birthday the day before he was killed, died April 8 in the parking lot of the Citgo station on Milstead Road. Vincent Washington, 25, and Barbara Washington, 31, are charged with murder in Williams’ death. Additionally, Vincent Washington is charged with first-degree kidnapping because the woman who drove him to the gas station said she wanted to leave, and he threatened her with her life.
The Washington siblings, who lost their own sister to murder last year, are set to be in court this afternoon for their preliminary hearings. AL.com has obtained the store surveillance video of the killing, which shows a man with a towel wrapped around his head – identified by police as Vincent Washington – shoot Williams multiple times, nine of those shots fired almost point-blank after while Williams had already collapsed on the ground. Police have said Williams was not armed. According to police and court records, the brother and sister told a friend of Barbara Washington they would buy her gas if she drove them to the Citgo station that day. They were going to meet Williams because he wanted the engagement ring back that he had given to Barbara Washington. Williams’ fiancé at the time of his death was also with him at the gas station the day he was killed.
The friend drove them to the service station, but told police she didn’t know what was going to happen. Once they arrived there, Vincent Washington got out of the car with a towel wrapped around his head. When the friend realized something was amiss, she said she wanted to leave. At that point, according to court records, Vincent Washington told her, “(Expletive), if you drive off I’ll shoot you in the back of the head.”
The friend said she was afraid, and did what she was told to do. The video shows Washington and Williams arguing outside of the vehicle for about 12 seconds, and then Washington opens fire on Williams. Williams fell to the ground on his back, and Washington stood over him and fired nine more shots.
Witnesses on the scene gave a description of a white Nissan Altima leaving the area. They said the vehicle was occupied by two females and a male. A short time later, Bessemer police said, a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the stomach and the hand showed up at UAB West, and a white vehicle reportedly had brought him there.
Authorities confirmed that man – later identified as Vincent Washington - at the hospital was involved in the Fairfield shooting. About 8 p.m., Fairfield police spotted the white Altima and stopped the vehicle. Barbara Washington and another woman were taken into custody. The second woman wasn’t charged.
After the shooting, according to court records, Barbara Washington took the gun used in the slaying to a friend’s house to hide it.
At some point during the incident, Vincent Washington was also shot by someone trying to help Williams. Police have never said who shot the suspect. He spent several days in the hospital before he was released and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Both of the siblings have remained jailed since then with bond set at $60,000.
Bill Veitch, the district attorney in Jefferson County’s Bessemer Cutoff, confirmed he has seen the video and said it shows the urgency needed in stopping the violence. “Any of us could have been out there at those gas pumps that day,’’ Veitch said. “This war on violence cannot be won unless the communities unite, tear down the walls that have built between us and see, hear and report.”
“It’s going to take a great deal of individual courage to become involved in this struggle,’’ he said. “Join with me and our law enforcement officers, our churches, our judges, to fight these heartless hoodlums. This video is graphic evidence of how great this epidemic has become.”

Martinsburg, West Virginia - Fall Leaves - Sweet Nuthin!
This video was inspired by the Fall leaves turning around Martinsburg, WV, Lou Reed's passing, late October 2013, savage/artistic beauty of downtown Martinsburg, brilliant turning leaves.
For the soundtrack, , the singer/songwriter Lou Reed had just passed away. I had lived in NYC between 1991-2000 and remember seeing Lou variously around (Village/Soho galleries, Haitian Art Exhibit, Museum of Natural History with Laurie Anderson). I was a fan of the Velvet Underground and appreciated Lou's hard-edged New York poetic style and Lou's English prof, Delmore Schwartz (In Dreams Begin Responsibilities, The World is a Wedding, Saul Bellow pseudo bio: Humboldt's Gift).
This cover of VU's Oh! Sweet Nothing was from a tribute to Lou Reed by Neil Young and Friends (Elvis Costello, Jim James, My Morning Jacket, Jenny Lewis, Watson Twins). This was done for the 2013 Bridge School Benefit on the day of Lou's passing, October 27, 2013 (Shoreline Amphiteatre, Mountain View California). Worthy tribute.
Lou Reed (b. Brooklyn NY March 2, 1942 - October 27, 2013, Southhampton, NY).
Rest in Peace, Lou.

The Nightmare World of Gang Stalking
More than 10,000 people worldwide claim they're the victims of a vast organized surveillance effort designed to ruin their lives, a phenomenon known as gang stalking. Mental health experts see gang stalking as a symptom of paranoia, but the self-identified victims who insist what they're experiencing is real have come together online and in support groups to share their stories.
VICE met up with a handful of Americans who claim their lives have been derailed by gang stalking to understand what serious consequences the phenomenon presents. Then we hear from Dr. Josh Bazell, one of many physicians who believes the victims of gang stalking are experiencing dangerous delusions that could be treated by mental health professionals.

Old Kentucky Whiskey-Elisabeth Roberts on banjo w/ Kermit Possum Killers at Cameo Theater
The Kermit Possum Killers- Elisabeth Roberts performs Old Kentucky Whiskey after re-tuning her banjo to what has been called regionally called sawmill tuning for over a century. This so called sawmill tuning on the banjo was first introduced to early recording audiences by Clarence Tom Ashley from Shouns community near Mountain City, Tennessee in the late 1920s at the second Johnson City sessions.

Ironically the station owner sold the restored Cameo Theater building shortly after the Kermit Possum Killers performed in September 2017, and the radio stations (keeping the same bluegrass and country formats) were re-branded from the late 1960's Tri-Cities Top Gun to The Possum.
