Montana's Cowboy Artist and the Women in His Life
Charlie Russell is best known for his depictions of the masculine world of the frontier: broncs bucking, Indians scouting, hard-working cowboys roping steers, and hard-playing cowboys roping wolves and bears. But women--most notably his wife Nancy Cooper Russell--also played important roles in his life and his art.
Kirby Lambert, co-author of the forthcoming book, Montana's Charlie Russell: Art in the Collection of the Montana Historical Society, examines the ways in which women impacted Russell and the ways in which his art reflects this impact. Presented on March 19, 2014--the 150th anniversary of Charlie Russell's birth. montanahistoricalsociety.org

La Casita - 1 Bedroom / 1 Bathroom
Taos Town, Taos New Mexico
La Casita, nestled near most popular happening in “The Town of Taos” which is one quarter block from “Plaza”.
Located on a quiet private one way street only ¼ block from the heart beat of town which is the “Taos Plaza”. Walk to town in less than 5 minutes. Lined with shops, restaurants, galleries and more, the Plaza is also where outdoor entertainment and public events take place.
During summer months, locals and visitors look forward to gathering Thursday’s late day / early evening for live “Music on the Plaza” including dancing and festivities. During winter holidays, the Plaza is alive with holiday décor, music, gatherings and the ever popular “Lighting of Ledoux Street” with galleries, artist studios and the famous Harwood Museum announcing the beginning of Christmas / New Year holidays. which is populated. La Casita is one very short block from Ledoux Street. One block from Kit Carson Road & Main Street (named Paseo del Pueblo Sur) and Bent Street with more shops and galleries and eateries. All of this and more are available with a 5 or 10 minute walk.
When you simply want to chill and pretend you live in Taos, stay home and relax by the historic wood burning kiva fireplace and enjoy this absolutely charming historic “La Casita”. Read a book or watch either of the two HD flat screen DirecTV’s (one in the living room and one in the bedroom).
Like the rest of the casita, the kitchen is furnished with upscale everything, including stainless steel fridge and stove, upscale pots, pans and dinnerware. Much of the furniture was designed special for La Casita and handcrafted by a local Taos woodworker.
The interior of the casita is pretty much “sound proof from the world” due to the thick historic adobe walls. These same sound proof walls insulate year round, keeping the casita cool during summer and warm during winter. The memory foam Queen bed is luxuriously comfortable and dressed with upscale linens, pillows and topper. The state of the art sleeper sofa is an “American Leather Comfort Sofa” touted by many guests over the last 10 years as, “The best night’s sleep ever” and “way better than most beds”.
To experience Taos fully, one must spend time in the heart of the city. Lodging at “La Casita” provides guests the opportunity to enjoy all of this with ease and off street parking. You will feel like you live on “The Square” but are buffered with privacy and solitude when you walk through the front door. Enjoy lodging at La Casita and you will tell your friends and family they have to come and do the same…..

A sixth-generation Memphian, Askew has substantially established herself throughout the Southeast, United States, and has organized and promoted her own small tours since her teens. She now continues to serve as her own agent on a grander scale, booking her shows and traveling vigorously throughout the U.S., spanning tours as far West as Santa Fe, New Mexico, as far North as Chicago, IL and as far East as Asheville, NC.
Back home in Memphis, Grace plays a slew of steady gigs with her abundantly talented accompanying 5-piece group, The Black Market Goods, made up of all prominent musical figures in the local scene. National singer-songwriter festivals have also kept her prominently placed in a tight circle of renowned regional writers who have served not only as mentors, but also as staunch patrons of her talent; including Keith Sykes (co-writer of the popular Volcano with Jimmy Buffet and I'm Not Strange, I'm Just Like You recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker), Grammy Award winning writer Richard Leigh, and Austin, Texas' Larry Joe Taylor, host of the largest privately owned music festival in the South. She has opened for/toured with such prolific singer/songwriters as Sid Selvidge, Rivers Rutherford, Jesse Winchester, Hayes Carll, and James McMurtry.
Grace has released two EP's (Wasted Lipstick, Hawthorne) under renowned produced Pete Matthews, both of which were recorded at Memphis' famed Ardent Studios. Her third and newest release 'Until They Lay Me Down to Rest'' is the first full-length album to be solely produced and written by Askew. The bulk of the album was recorded by Memphis musical veteran Richard Ford, who is also featured on several tracks playing such various instruments as banjo, lap & pedal steel guitars, and a mandolin offshoot- the 'jangletron'. Whether stirred by the moaning of a distant freight train, the barking dog across the street, or the whoosh of a car passing by on a rainy Memphis night, the intimacy and rawness of the recordings takes you right into the room with Grace and gives you a pure, powerful reach into the heart & mind behind each and every composition. A select few tracks were also recorded in nearby Oxford, Mississippi at acclaimed Tweed Studios includes her entire ensemble of accompanists, in addition to the sound engineering of studio proprietor Andrew Ratcliffe.

If Tom Waits had a singer/writer daughter in Memphis, it would be Askew with her gallery of lost souls on the graveyard shift. Gutsy, bluesy, and a bit boozy, she quietly sings with jagged languor and a skewed spirituality. Discreet percussion, guitar and, on occasion, wistful lap steel notes sagely frame her rough-hewn sophistication.

Aldous Huxley
Aldous Leonard Huxley /ˈhʌksli/ (26 July 1894 – 22 November 1963) was an English writer and a prominent member of the Huxley family. Best known for his novels including Brave New World, set in a dystopian London, The Doors of Perception, which recalls experiences when taking a psychedelic drug, and a wide-ranging output of essays, Huxley also edited the magazine Oxford Poetry, and published short stories, poetry, travel writing, film stories and scripts. He spent the later part of his life in the United States, living in Los Angeles from 1937 until his death.
Huxley was a humanist, pacifist, and satirist. He became deeply concerned that human beings might become subjugated through the sophisticated use of the mass media or mood-altering drugs, or tragically impacted by misunderstanding or the misapplication of increasingly sophisticated technology.

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joseph Mazzello) outwit the raptors that are hunting them and safely escape from the kitchen.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Steven Spielberg's phenomenally successful sci-fi adventure thriller is graced by state-of-the-art special effects from the team of Stan Winston, Phil Tippett and Michael Lantieri from George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic. The film follows two dinosaur experts -- Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Dr. Ellie Sattler Laura Dern) -- as they are invited by eccentric millionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) to preview his new amusement park on an island off Costa Rica. By cloning DNA harvested from pre-historic insects, Hammond has been able to create living dinosaurs for his new Jurassic Park, an immense animal preserve housing real brachiosaurs, dilophosaurs, triceratops, velociraptors, and a Tyrannosaur Rex. Accompanied by cynical scientist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), who is obsessed with chaos theory, and Hammond's two grandchildren (Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello), they are sent on a tour through Hammond's new resort in computer controlled touring cars. But as a tropical storm hits the island, knocking out the power supply, and an unscrupulous employee (Wayne Knight) sabotages the system so that he can smuggle dinosaur embryos out of the park, the dinosaurs start to rage out of control. Grant then has to bring Hammond's grandchildren back to safety as the group is pursued by the gigantic man-eating beasts.
