Why is Jodhpur the Blue City Blue? Jodhpur Fort Rajasthan India Travel Video India vlog 11 Youtube
This is a Jodhpur Travel Video which focuses on the Mehrangarh Fort, for other videos of Jodhpur Rajhasthan, please see my Youtube channel:
Have you ever wondered why so many buildings in Jodhpur old city are blue? It’s the reason the city of Jodpur has gained the nickname of the “Blue City” but how did it all start? I give some rumours I have heard in this video but if you know the real reason or have heard another story please share it in the comments below.
I am loving being in Jodhpur the Blue City. And the first place I wanted to visit was Mehrangarh Fort, or as I frequently refer to it in this vlog Jodhpur Castle – sorry folks that’s just the British coming out of me.
Jodhpur Fort is huge, I believe it is one of the largest forts in Rajasthan, maybe even one of the largest forts in India. You can wander around the outside of the fort for free, but to get inside there is a fee of Rs600 (based in November 2017) and there is also a Rs120 fee for cameras. Selfie sticks are not allowed in the fort, I think because of the danger of people not paying attention and falling off the edge.
One of the things which amazes me about this fort is the architecture and the way the fort has been built into the rock on the hill overlooking the Blue City of Jodpur.

WE GOT OUR ROYAL ENFIELDS! THE BLUE CITY | RIDE RAJASTHAN EP02
After 12-odd hours of restless sleep on the overnight train from Delhi, we arrive in the blue city, Jodhpur, one of the largest cities in Rajasthan. We arrived at our hotel greeted by our motorcycles, ready for our Rajasthan India Motorcycle Adventure!
The crew gets to jump on the Royal Enfields for the first time and we head out for an afternoon burn to the Mehrangarh fort that overlooks the city.
Headed to Jodhpur? Heres our top three sites to check out:
1. Mehrangarh Fort. Set on on a rocky outcrop, the fort overlooks the walled city, where many buildings are painted the city’s iconic shade of blue. The fort is home to a massive Zipline which is a bit of fun.
2. Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) constructed by Maharaja Sardar Singh Ji of Jodhpur the clock tower overlooks one of the busiest local markets. The famous Jodphur Egg Man is based just near the market entrance.
3. Toorji Ka Jhalra (Toorji’s Step Well). Built in the 1740s, submerged for decades, its recent restoration uncovered over 200 hundred feet of hand-carved treasure.

Tanot Mata is a temple in western State of Rajasthan in District Jaisalmer of India. As per the oldest Charan literature Tannot Mata is new clone of divine goddess [[Hinglaj Mata],Basically The village is close to the border with Pakistan, and is very close to the battle site of Longewala of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, indeed some credit the temple for the outcome of the battle.[1] Tourists cannot go beyond this temple to see the Indo–Pak Border unless one gets the relevant documentation in advance from the District and Military Authorities. It is now a tourist destination in India. The area is said to have oil and gas reserves.
The story of Tanot Temple at the Longewala border in Rajasthan is one such miraculous tale when the local deity Tanot aka Awad Mata didn't let any Pakistani tank bomb explode and Indian soldiers who were certain of martydom and defeat went on to crush the Pakistanis in both 1965 as well as 1971 wars.
The legend say that in both wars more than 3,000 bombs were dropped either in the vicinity or while of the temple, but none exploded. And one can see some of those bombs in the Museum built by BSF inside the temple premises.
Situated 150 Kms from the city Jaisalmer in Western most point of Rajasthan, Tanot has become one of most visited tourist spots especially for those who love the wilderness of Rajasthan and admire stories related to army heroics.

Munabao is a village in the Barmer district in Rajasthan in India bordering Pakistan.
In February 2006, the two nations reopened the railway line, the Thar Express that used to connect Rajasthan in India with Sindh in Pakistan. The line had fallen into disuse ever since it was closed after the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war in which the town itself was captured by Pakistani troops. It is the second active rail connection between the two nations after the Wagah link in Punjab. Khokhrapar is the bordering town in Pakistan.
Since 2006 a train service has been running once a week between Bhagat Ki Kothi near Jodhpur and Karachi, Pakistan which passes through Munabao on India side, Zero Point border station, Khokhrapar on Pakistan side. This train is known as the Thar Express.Apart from this there is a passenger train between Barmer and Munabao.
Munabao railway station is on the Marwar Junction-Munabao line.
Recently, Pakistan extends Thar link express for 3 years period from 1 February 2018 to 31 January 2021.

Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India in 4K Ultra HD
The desert city of Jaisalmer, called The Golden City because of the color of the sandstone used for its buildings and the fort. The Jaisalmer Fort was built in the 12th century, with Royal Palace, Jain temples, and residential buildings inhabited even now, it is one of the six forts included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hill Forts of Rajasthan. The sandstone used for many houses and temples in Jaisalmer is intricately carved.

India Vlog: Shopping in Jodhpur! Clock Tower, Sardar Market!
** Please expand the description box for itinerary & music details**
February 18, 2015
instagram.com/timandglo
We ventured further into Rajasthan Province by taking the train from Jaipur to Jodhpur. We stayed at The Blue House, a quaint guesthouse housed in a 500-year-old Haveli near the Clock Tower and Sardar Market.
Since arriving in India five days prior, this was our first chance to sleep in...so we took advantage. We slept in until 10:00 followed by breakfast at the Blue House's rooftop cafe. We highly recommend their banana and honey porridge as well as Nutella crepes! Breakfast is not included in the room rate, but it's very affordable. The cafe is open air and has a nice day and night view of Merangarh Fort.
We decided to postpone a visit to the Fort - the city's top tourist attraction - until the following day. We spent the rest of the day exploring Sardar Market, shopping for textiles, tea, curry powders, and other items.
Jodhpur is especially known for its textiles - scarves, wall hangings, table runners, etc. But be careful because there are a lot of unscrupulous salesmen who will try to dupe the unknowing tourist. Be especially cautious of Maharani Textiles & Handicrafts as well as Baba Art Emporium.
Maharani is located less than five minutes on foot from The Blue House. This is the first shop we visited based on the recommendation of a man who stopped us just outside of Blue House claiming to recognize us from the guesthouse. He said he's a cook there; he was lying. He led us to Maharani in the hopes - as we later found out - that we would make a big purchase, from which he could earn up to a 30% commission. Maharani has terrible reviews on TripAdvisor primarily because they use a lot of tall tales - albeit some based on truth - to overcharge customers for their textiles.
Baba Art is located inside the market and claims to be a government textile shop, which we were later told is not a unique business category because all legal businesses are required to register with the government. They use this ruse to convince tourists that Baba Art offers bargain prices that are backed by their special standing with the government. They also like to benchmark their prices against Maharani, generally offering a 30% discount.
It's true that both shops offer very unique, high quality items. The key is to enter these shops independently without being led there by guides, hotel staff, etc. who will receive commission on your purchase, thereby increasing the cost of each item by about 30%. And as with all bargaining, be sure to have a price in mind that you're comfortable paying. As long as you have no regrets about the final price, you won't feel cheated and disappointed. Across two visits on two separate days, Baba Art slashed the price of six items we set aside from $635 to $200! In the end we decided not to buy anything at all because the negotiation process was dishonest and left us feeling cheated.
The market is also a great place to buy spices and tea! We recommend Mohanlal Verhomal M.V. Spices, which has two locations (one inside the market near Baba Art Emporium and the other just outside the market). M.V. is run by three sisters who took over after their father passed away. They also offer cooking classes and have been featured in Lonely Planet!
For lunch or dinner, we recommend Indique Restaurant on the rooftop of Pal Haveli Hotel just outside Sardar Market. They definitely have the best views! You can see Merangarh Fort as well as get a bird's eye view of the Clock Tower and market. The food is also delicious!
For dinner we drove to a restaurant called On the Rocks. The ambiance was lovely - very romantic. But the food was sub-par.
Many thanks for watching!! And happy travels!!

Jaisalmer City Guide | India Travel Video in Rajasthan
Join us as we visit Jaisalmer in this city travel guide covering the best things to do and top attractions in the 'Golden City' of Rajasthan, India. Located nearby the Pakistan border and at the doorsteps of the Thar Desert 'The Great Indian Desert' this small sized jewel of a city is a welcome change for those arriving from bustling Delhi, Jodhpur or Jaipur. Jaisalmer Fort is one of the most amazing places I've ever visited in India. As a living fort you'll find a plethora of shops selling souvenirs, restaurants, hotels and Jain temples. You can get lost meandering down narrow alleys and enjoy the best views of the city along the edges of the walls or by having rooftop tea or dinner. You'll also want to budget time to visit the Thar Desert on a camel safari ride where you'll pass by gypsy villages and enjoy local cuisine and tea prepared over a fire. Come find out why Jaisalmer (जैसलमेर) is one of our favorite cities in Rajasthan, India.
Things to do in Jaisalmer Travel Guide:
1) Jaisalmer Fort (जैसलमेर फोर्ट) to shop for souvenirs and wandering around
2) Visiting a Jain Temple in the Thar Desert)
3) Thar Desert (लाइक,कमेंट व सब्सक्राइब करे) experiencing the culture, food and gypsy villages
4) Camel Safari ride in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India visiting the Sam Sand Dunes (1 day, 3 day and week long options)
5) Jain Temples inside the Jaisalmer Fort (जैन धर्म)
6) Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum & Heritage Center
7) Gadisar Lake (गाडिसर झील) for sunset and a boat ride
8) Rooftop dining on ground level to admire Jaisalmer Fort at night
9) Waking up for sunrise to view 'The Golden City'
10) Jaisalmer Fort for sunset dinner

Our visit Jaisalmer travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including camel safaris in the Thar desert, Jaisalmer Fort by day and night, fascinating Jain temples and the city by day and evening when Jaisalmer comes alive at night. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Jaisalmer tourism brochure, Jaisalmer city tour or Jaisalmer itinerary.
Jaisalmer City Guide | India Travel Video in Rajasthan Transcript:
After an 18 hour overnight train ride from Delhi, we finally reached Jaisalmer, a city of yellow sandstone that lies in the middle of the Thar Desert. This proved to be my favourite stop of our month long adventure in India; now let me take you on a tour and show you why.
With so much colour all around us, it wasn’t long before we were lured into a shop and found ourselves picking out souvenirs in the form of wall hangings, pillow cases, and a small painting or two. Our luggage gained an extra couple of pounds in this city alone.
But it wasn’t all shopping in Jaisalmer. We also made time to do a bit of sightseeing inside the fort, and one of the main attractions here are the Jain Temples.
Another thing we’d recommend doing in Jaisalmer is having dinner on a rooftop restaurant while the sun sets. There are plenty of restaurants scattered across the city and the views you get as the sun goes down are amazing. We chose one at random and it included a live music performance.
The following day was all about visiting the Thar Desert on an afternoon camel trek. It was a nice change of pace from the city, and we got to enjoy a traditional meal cooked over a campfire.
The next morning we went back to the fort because we just couldn’t stay away. I visited the Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum & Heritage Center, while Sam and his mom picked up a few additional gifts for family back home.
This is part of our Travel in India video series showcasing Indian food, Indian culture and Indian cuisine.

Tip: Many tourists are not aware that if you locate Purohit who has records of your family, then you will be amazed to see that your Grand fathers and their Grandfathers visited Haridwar and did entry in the records that these Purohits maintain.
If you go on Haridwar Darshan or yatra you will get to hear Har har Gange all over Har ki pauri.
