While I was on active duty at Fort Sill (1960-62), I was the first Second Lieutenant to be assigned as an instructor in the Field Exercise Branch of the Tactics Department in the US Army Artillery and Missile School. We ran field exercises and assisted in the public demonstrations which are the videos presented. I also taught map reading to Officer Candidates, officers entering the service from ROTC and West Point, and Regular Army Career Officers. I received my commission through ROTC at the University of Illinois. I enjoyed my tour of duty and met some outstanding people. Hope you enjoyed some old pictures...times sure have changed! Thanks for watching.

Zeke Shoots: Guns Around Town // M65 280mm Atomic Cannon
Atomic Annie as some called it. This is one of the twenty M65 280mm atomic cannons. Atomic Annie given to the one and only of these to fire an actual nuke. Atomic Annie cannon on permanent display at Fort Sill, near Lawton, OK.
This cannon can be found in Memorial Field on the Rock Island Arsenal. in Rock Island Illinois.
In spite of her age, she is in fine shape, very little is missing from her. While in service, her crew of 5-7 could get her moved and ready to fire in around 15 minutes. It could fire conventional and nuclear shells as far away as 20 miles.
This gun borrows a lot from the German K-5 Railroad gun.

Geronimo Burial Ground on Fort Sill, Oklahoma
Geronimo one who yawns was a prominent Native American leader of the Chiricahua Apache who fought against Mexico and the United States for their expansion into Apache tribal lands for several decades during the Apache Wars. Allegedly, Geronimo was the name given to him during a Mexican incident. His Chiricahua name is often rendered as Goyathlay or Goyahkla in English.
