RVing New England: Hyannis and Plymouth
Once again, the weather forced us to change our plans. We had hoped to ride a boat cruise to Hyannis Port, but no tours were running. Instead, we went through the JFK Museum in Hyannis. To find better weather, we drove north to Plymouth, visited Plymouth Rock, then toured the Plimoth Plantation living museum. It wasn’t the day we had in mind, but we still made some great memories!

Falmouth /ˈfælmɨθ/ is a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States; Barnstable County is coextensive with Cape Cod. The population was 31,532 at the 2010 census, making Falmouth the second-largest municipality on Cape Cod (behind only Barnstable). The terminal for the Steamship Authority ferries to Martha's Vineyard is located in the village of Woods Hole in Falmouth. Woods Hole also contains several scientific organizations such as the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), the Woods Hole Research Center, National Marine Fisheries Aquarium, and the scientific institutions' various museums.
For geographic and demographic information on specific parts of the town of Falmouth, please see the articles on East Falmouth, Falmouth Village, North Falmouth, Teaticket, West Falmouth, and Woods Hole. Falmouth also encompasses the villages of Hatchville and Waquoit, which are not census-designated places and fall within the village of East Falmouth based on postal serviHistory[edit]
Falmouth was first settled by English colonists in 1660 and was officially incorporated in 1686. Bartholomew Gosnold named the settlement for Falmouth, Cornwall, England,[3] his home port. Early principal activities were farming, salt works, shipping, whaling, and sheep husbandry, which was very popular due to the introduction of Merino sheep and the beginnings of water-powered mills that could process the wool. In 1837, Falmouth averaged about 50 sheep per square mile.
Falmouth saw brief action in the War of 1812, when the area around Falmouth Heights, on its southern coast, was bombarded by several British frigates and ships of the line, and Massachusetts militia hastily entrenched themselves on the beaches to repulse a possible British landing which never came. By 1872, the train had come to Falmouth and Woods Hole, and some of the first summer homes were established. By the late 19th century, cranberries were being cultivated and strawberries were being raised for the Boston market. Large-scale dairying was tried in the early 20th century in interior regions. After the improvement in highways, and thanks in part to the heavy use of neighboring Otis Air National Guard Base during World War II, population growth increased significantly. Large homebuilding booms occurred in the 1970s, followed by others in the 1980s and 1990s.
In the late 1800s, after railroad service was established between Boston and Cape Cod, James Madison Beebe bought over 700 acres (280 ha) and built Highfield Hall, which is now a museum, and much of the land is preserved as Beebe Woods.
In 1965, Robert Manry sailed from Falmouth aboard his 13.5-foot (4.1 m) sailboat and reached Falmouth, England, 78 days later.

Transcript:
Three great white shark sightings were reported this past weekend in Maine.
A charter fishing boat reported seeing a shark around 1:30, about 1.2 miles off of Moody Beach, a WCSH anchor said.
The Wells Police Department wrote on Facebook Saturday it had contacted the U.S Coast Guard, but the reported shark sighting had yet to be confirmed.
The department also said, These sightings are not infrequent; however, this sighting is abnormal given the time of year and proximity to the beach.
WGME spoke with the harbor master for the area, Chris Mayo, who said, In my time as harbor master, this is the most credible report of a large predator. That's because the person who reported the sighting, was an experienced charter boat captain.
National Geographic reports great white sharks can weigh up to as much as 5,000 pounds and be up to 20 feet in length.
The Portland Press Herald spoke with Kevin Proctor, who reported the second great white shark sighting about 26 miles off the Portland coast: He was interested in our bait but came under the boat, circled around and came up parallel to the boat before he dove again.
And WCSH reports a diver spotted a shark just off of Old Orchard Beach.
Despite the multiple reportings, the Wells Police Department urged people not to panic.
To avoid the risk of a shark attack, the Florida Museum of Natural History says swimmers should stay in groups when out in the water, avoiding swimming in the early morning and at night, and not wear any flashy jewelry when swimming.

[FULL] FEDS: COAST GUARD MAKES $20 MILLION COCAINE BUST OFF CAPE COD!!!
BOSTON (AP) - Federal prosecutors in Boston say two men face drug charges after the Coast Guard allegedly found them transporting about $20 million in cocaine on a sailboat in international waters about 400 nautical miles east of the U.S.
The U.S. Attorney's office said 27-year-old Hicham Ramzi Nahra of Canada, and 49-year-old Benjamin Celma-Sedo of Spain, were charged in a criminal complaint Friday with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Prosecutors say the men had about 621 kilograms on the boat Callisto, bound for Montreal. It's not immediately known if the men have attorneys.
The Coast Guard Cutter Dependable found the 49-foot boat, carrying the name Elegrance and flying a Candian flag, on Monday. Canadian authorities discovered it wasn't a Canadian vessel. Prosecutors say it was identified as Callisto, whose last port of call was Venezuela.

Massachusetts ( (listen), ), officially the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is the most populous state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island to the south, New Hampshire and Vermont to the north, and New York to the west. The state is named after the Massachusett tribe, which once inhabited the east side of the area, and is one of the original thirteen states. The capital of Massachusetts is Boston, which is also the most populous city in New England. Over 80% of Massachusetts's population lives in the Greater Boston metropolitan area, a region influential upon American history, academia, and industry. Originally dependent on agriculture, fishing and trade, Massachusetts was transformed into a manufacturing center during the Industrial Revolution. During the 20th century, Massachusetts's economy shifted from manufacturing to services. Modern Massachusetts is a global leader in biotechnology, engineering, higher education, finance, and maritime trade.Plymouth was the site of the first colony in New England, founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims, passengers of the Mayflower. In 1692, the town of Salem and surrounding areas experienced one of America's most infamous cases of mass hysteria, the Salem witch trials. In 1777, General Henry Knox founded the Springfield Armory, which during the Industrial Revolution catalyzed numerous important technological advances, including interchangeable parts. In 1786, Shays' Rebellion, a populist revolt led by disaffected American Revolutionary War veterans, influenced the United States Constitutional Convention. In the 18th century, the Protestant First Great Awakening, which swept the Atlantic World, originated from the pulpit of Northampton preacher Jonathan Edwards. In the late 18th century, Boston became known as the Cradle of Liberty for the agitation there that led to the American Revolution.
The entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts has played a powerful commercial and cultural role in the history of the United States.
