New Barracks provide state-of-the-art living arrangements at Lee
(Natural Sound) Soldiers Coming Back from Physical Training
Barracks a Soldiers home to relax, study, and sleep is extremely important, especially in a training environment. This is why three new five story ordnance school barracks built by the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Lee, Va., includes many new amenities older barracks just dont have.
Sgt. Maj. Sultan Aziz Muhammad - I think it allows the Soldier to be able to study, be able to recharge, regroup, reenergize and get back out there to do that next days bidding, that next days training.
Sgt. Maj. Sultan Aziz Muhammad should know, when he came into the Army in 1984 he lived in WWII open bay barracks.
Sgt. Maj. Sultan Aziz Muhammad - The Army gave us what they had the funding and ability to give us at that particular time.
The new barracks offers state-of-the-art technologies blended with the creature comforts of home,
Sgt. Maj. Sultan Aziz Muhammad - Two to one latrine, better mattresses, we went from steel beds, steel pipe beds that were stackable, to more efficient beds,
Soldiers are also provided with laundry facilities, day rooms, Internet access, as well as many new security features, such as security cameras in the halls, alarms on doors and windows and an integrated fire alarm and intercom system.
Ronnie Craig, a retired Army Sergeant Major and now a construction representative with the Norfolk District, says end users are giving him rave reviews.
1;05;39;00 Ronnie Craig The feedback I get back from him is the Soldiers and their leadership are really happy with the facilities we are providing.
52;37;00 You can see that our nations money is being spent in the right place, for the right reason, for the right people.
The new $119.5 million barracks were built as part of the Base Realignment and Closure authorization, which consolidated the Army Ordnance School to Fort Lee. From Fort Lee, Va., Patrick Bloodgood.
