US Highway 16, aptly dubbed as Cloud Peak Skyway Scenic Byway, crosses the Big Horn National Forest and Big Horn Mountain Rage, thru some amazingly beautiful area, especially near Power River Pass (elev. 9666 feet) in Wyoming.

The Cloud Peak Skyway Scenic Byway is the southern-most route across the Bighorn National Forest in the Big Horn Mountains. The designated 47-mile stretch of the Scenic Byway, or U.S. 16, shares its boundaries with the National Forest. The route can be reached via Ten Sleep from the west or Buffalo from the east.
The road is a paved two-lane highway that crests at the 9,666-foot Powder River Pass. Mountain weather can be extreme and snow can fall in any month at these elevations but it rarely affects travel in the summer and early fall. Allow one hour minimum driving time.

16,000 km / 10,000 miles North American Road Trip GoPro Timelapse

There is some commentary along the trip by me, and some pictures from the major events during the trip.
The songs being played are songs that were listened to along the way, so every once in a while a song would just click with the scenery as I was driving. I wrote it down so when I was editing the video the same song would make it in.
The time lapse was taken with a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition, with pictures being taken every 2 seconds. Max resolution, protune on, and white balance to camera RAW. Processed in GoPro Studio and stitched together with after effects and premier. Approximate amount of pictures taken was about 480,000 pictures. This equated to over 2.5 TB of data that I had to encode and backup along the trip. This took weeks to render, color correct, and stitch together.
The trip lasted 114 days during which I drove 22,350 km. The recording shows only the major route and runs ~16,000 km.

Summer 2010 on a 10,000 mile road trip with the family we came upon Ten Sleep Pass. If you ever are driving from Rapid City to Jackson take Wyoming 16. It is hands down one of the prettiest drives we have ever made and 10 Sleep pass is the best of it all.

Powder Pass in the Big Horn Mountain Range is just 35 miles down US highway 16 from our Buffalo Wyoming Motel, the Mountain View mountainviewbuffalo.com . This was one of my first flights with my new DJI Mavic Quadcopter. The Winds on the pass were howling for this flight. I almost didn't fly because of the wind, I thought I would test the Mavic and hovered just a few feet over the parking area and I discovered that the little Mavic cuts the wind nicely.

I came across this amazing piece of film on an online archief, which is pretty hard to find, especially for foreigners because all is in Dutch.
This film is captured by Dutchman Henny Hogenbijl who travelled with his family to the USA in the summer of 1955. They travelled from New York City to Los Angeles.
The USA was really something different back then (in the late 40s, 50s and 60s), the American dream was real. I think most people in Western Europe really looked up to the way of live in the USA. We hadn't things like a supermarket, color television etc, America was years ahead. Sadly things have changed for decades now.
I don't think many people have seen this before so I just had to share this unique roadtrip.

July 13, 2016 - In central Wyoming, hotels are a little scarce and towns like Cody fill up in a hurry. I picked a hotel a little out of the way in the smaller town of Lovell, Wyoming. Nothing much is here in this town of 2,000, but I needed a place to crash for the night.
I often choose chain hotels, as per Expedia, but this time, the best fit for me was an independent accommodation known as the Cattleman Motel. Check it out its hospitality in all of its western splendour.

July 13, 2016 - Welcome to Wyoming, my newest state to visit (and 37th overall)! Starting at the state line between Wyoming and South Dakota along Interstate 90, I head westward past awesome sights like Devils Tower and the Bighorn Mountain Range to Lovell, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of the Bighorn Basin on the way to world-famous Yellowstone National Park.
I wasn't expecting the Bighorn Range to be so impressive, particularly Bald Mountain. Cowabunga!
Wyoming is the least populous of all 50 of the United States, but it's definitely a gorgeous state with a very varied landscape.
NOTE: Unfortunately, the first hour of this video between Rapid City, South Dakota and the Wyoming state line didn't make it to the final edit...cuz I overwrote it while driving. D'oh!

Which is the best road to drive? No such thing, there are to many choices, but one of the more amazing ones we have driven is in Wyoming, up through the 9,000 + foot elevation of the Bighorn National Forest. Lots of elevation change, corners, straight stretches and spectacular scenery.

July 13, 2016 - I'm spending the night in Lovell, Wyoming. Less than an hour away is the city of Cody, which features a free street gunfight show, put on by Buffalo Bill and friends, every night at 6pm in front of the Irma Hotel.
This is my first day in Wyoming, ever, so I figured I may as well do what many of the locals in the area do.
