UMAID BHAWAN PALACE, LOCATED AT JODHPUR IN RAJASTHAN, INDIA, IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST PRIVATE RESIDENCES. A PART OF THE PALACE IS MANAGED BY TAJ HOTELS. NAMED AFTER MAHARAJA UMAID SINGH, GRANDFATHER OF THE PRESENT OWNER GAJ SINGH OF THE PALACE, THIS EDIFICE HAS 347 ROOMS AND SERVES AS THE PRINCIPAL RESIDENCE OF THE ERSTWHILE JODHPUR ROYAL FAMILY. A PART OF THE PALACE ALSO HOUSES A MUSEUM.
UMAID BHAWAN PALACE WAS CALLED CHITTAR PALACE DURING ITS CONSTRUCTION DUE TO USE OF STONES DRAWN FROM THE
CHITTAR HILL WHERE IT IS LOCATED. GROUND FOR THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE BUILDING WAS BROKEN ON 18 NOVEMBER 1929 BY MAHARAJA UMAID SINGH AND THE CONSTRUCTION WORK WAS COMPLETED IN 1943.
UMAID BHAWAN PALACE WAS CALLED CHITTAR PALACE DURING ITS CONSTRUCTION DUE TO USE OF STONES DRAWN FROM THE CHITTAR HILL WHERE IT IS LOCATED. THE PALACE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE FUNCTIONAL PARTS – THE RESIDENCE OF THE ROYAL FAMILY, A LUXURY TAJ PALACE HOTEL, AND A MUSEUM FOCUSING ON THE 20TH CENTURY HISTORY OF THE JODHPUR ROYAL FAMILY.

THE MUSEUM HAS EXHIBITS OF STUFFED LEOPARDS, A VERY LARGE SYMBOLIC FLAG GIFTED TO MAHARAJA JASWANT SINGH BY QUEEN VICTORIA IN 1877, AN IMPRESSIVE QUIRKY COLLECTION OF CLOCKS IN WINDMILL AND LIGHT HOUSE SHAPES, AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ELEGANT ART-DECO INTERIOR OF THE PALACE. THE CLASSIC CARS OF THE MAHARAJAS ARE ALSO ON DISPLAY IN THE GARDEN IN FRONT OF THE MUSEUM. GLASS, PORCELAIN WARES, MEMORABILIA, AND INFORMATION ON THE BUILDING OF THE PALACE ARE ALSO PART OF THE EXHIBITS. THE DARBAR HALL, WHICH IS PART OF THE MUSEUM, HAS ELEGANT MURALS AND ALSO SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF MINIATURE PAINTINGS, ARMOUR AND AN UNUSUAL COLLECTION OF HOUSEHOLD PARAPHERNALIA THAT WAS IN VOGUE IN THE 1930S, WHICH WERE COSTLY AND THEN NOT FOUND IN INDIA.

Umaid Bhavan Palace Museum
Maharaja Umaid Singhji was very fascinated by western lifestyle. So, he hired the services of a well-known Edwardian architect, Henry Vaughan Lanchester to get Umaid Bhavan palace constructed. A part of the palace now houses the Umaid Bhavan Palace of Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
The museum is very well maintained, displaying an exclusive range of items belonging to the Maharaja and the royal family. Rajasthan's famous Umaid Bhavan Palace Museum is highly recommended for its display of items ranging from weapons to an array of stuffed leopards to antiques to some fascinating crockery to various trophies. Also exhibited is a huge banner presented by Queen Victoria and an amazing collection of clocks.

Umaid Bhawan Palace, located at Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, is one of the world's largest private residences. A part of the palace is managed by Taj Hotels. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present owners of the palace, this monument has 347 rooms and serves as the principal residence of the erstwhile Jodhpur royal family.
Umaid Bhawan Palace was called Chittar Palace during its construction due to use of stones commonly known as Chittar in the building. Ground for the foundations of the building was broken on 18 November 1929 by Maharaja Umaid Singh and the construction work was completed in 1943. The Palace was built to provide employment to thousands of people during the time of famine.
The present owner of the Palace is Maharaja of Jodhpur Gaj Singh. The Palace is divided into three functional parts - a luxury Taj Palace Hotel (in existence since 1972), the residence of the erstwhile royal family, and a Museum focusing on the 20th century history of the Jodhpur Royal Family. The opening hours of this museum are 9 am to 5 pm. There is also a gallery showcasing the most exotic automobiles owned by the royals

उम्मैद भवन पैलेस राजस्थान के जोधपुर ज़िले में स्थित एक महल है। यह दुनिया के सबसे बड़े निजी महलों में से एक है। यह ताज होटल का ही एक अंग है। [1] इसका नाम महाराजा उम्मैद सिंह के पौत्र ने दिया था जो वर्तमान में मालिक है। [2] अभी वर्तमान समय में इस पैलेस में ३४७ कमरे है। इस उम्मैद भवन पैलेस को चित्तर पैलेस के नाम से भी पहले जाना जाता था जब इसका निर्माण कार्य चालू था। [3] यह पैलेस १९४३ में बनकर तैयार हुआ था।
वर्तमान में उम्मैद भवन पैलेस का मालिक गज सिंह है। इस पैलेस के तीन भाग है , एक लग्ज़री ताज होटल जो (१९७२) से है ,एक शाही परिवार के लिए तथा एक संग्रहालय है। संग्रहालय के खुलने का समय सुबह ९ बजे से शाम ५ तक। यहाँ एक दीर्घा भी है जहाँ पर कई चीजें देखने को मिलती है।

उमाद भवन पैलेस-संग्रहालय 1877 में रानी विक्टोरिया महाराजा जसवंत सिंह को रानी विक्टोरिया द्वारा दिए गए एक बहुत बड़े प्रतीकात्मक झंडे का चित्रण किया गया है, जो विंडमिल और हल्के घर के आकार में घड़ियों का संग्रह है, और तस्वीरें महल के सुरुचिपूर्ण कला-डेको इंटीरियर। महाराजा की क्लासिक कारें संग्रहालय के सामने बगीचे में भी प्रदर्शित हैं। ग्लास, चीनी मिट्टी के बरतन माल, यादगार, और महल के निर्माण पर जानकारी भी प्रदर्शन का हिस्सा हैं। संग्रहालय का हिस्सा है, दरबार हॉल में 1930 के दशक से सुरुचिपूर्ण म्यूरल्स और लघु चित्रों, कवच और घरेलू सामान के संग्रह की पर्याप्त संख्या है।

The Umaid Bhawan Palace is housed neatly beside the royal blue city of Jodhpur.
It is a n architectural marvel, truly an edifice and is almost 75 years old. The foundation was laid in 1928 and construction of the palace was completed in 1943 under the guidance of chief architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Sir S.S. Jacob. The erection of the palace was done under the aegis H.V. Lanchester. The foundation’s ground was crushed by Maharaja Umaid Singh himself upon whom the palace is named after all.
