Freediving with manta rays in Nusa Lembongan
When we found out our friends at Fusion Freediving and Yoga were running a trip to see the manta rays in Nusa Lembongan, we just couldn’t resist and planned a week on this little island just off Bali.
The public boat from Sanur is cheap, fast, and despite getting a little wet on the way to the boat, reasonably comfortable. Stepping out onto the beach at Jungut Batu we really didn’t know what to expect, but after a short walk down a dusty track, we were happy to find our room at “Secret Bungalows” to be above expectations. Cute little concrete bungalows surrounding a nice garden and pool - not quite as peaceful as it could be due to the onsite dive shop and their ever-present air compressor, but blissfully quiet and resplendent in geckos early in the morning or in the evening. A wonderful little getaway!

Scuba Safari Bali
Scuba Safari trip with Underwater Tribe around Bali.
My parents joined us for our second trip to Bali. We visited Ubub, Tulamben, Padang Bai, and Nusa Penida.
While most of the time was spent underwater most of the video is above water because I left my underwater case at home in Japan so I borrowed my Dad's camera.

SEA WALK @ BALI
How would it be when we walk under the Sea ???
Here is a video from our Recent tour to BALI, Indonesia
2008 Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony
CHAN: It's Indonesian independence day and this ceremony is being held underwater. Let's hear how from our reporter in Bali.
.
STORY: We are at Sanur Beach in Bali where about 20 Indonesian and foreign divers are preparing for an underwater ceremony. Among them are four disabled divers who have the duty of unfurling the Indonesian flag underwater. Conditions are tough for the disabled divers but at 16 feet deep and nearly a mile out to sea they get to work. With patience and persistence, they successfully hold a ceremony to unfurl and honor the Indonesian flag. Head of the organizing committee, Gentri Amalo, says the purpose of the event is to raise a sense of optimism and love for their country in disabled people. Gentri says the activity also draws attention to the beauty of Indonesia's underwater coastline. He says about 80% of Indonesia's underwater assets are damaged. NTD, Bali, Indonesia.

Bali old video 24: Bali in the 60s. Episode 3
The Miracle of Bali is a BBC series of cultural documentaries narrated by David Attenborough and first shown in 1969. The series comprises three programs about the culture of Bali. First uploaded by Jonas Gruska.
This is episode 3. Recital Of Music
This episode is about music and dancing from the Balinese village of Peliatan, the separate items linked by an appropriately illustrative detail from Balinese paintings. It opens with a virtuoso instrumental from the gamelan orchestra; next is a dance choreographed in 1951, The Bee Sips Honey; the 3rd section presents snippets from 4 different ensembles; and it closes with the unforgettable Monkey Dance.
The truth behind dolphin circusses in Indonesia
Indonesia is the last country in the world with travelling dolphin shows. Dolphins are captured from the wild brought into centers where they're trained and then they are being used on roadshows. They are taken to rural areas, placed inside plastic pools. Dolphins are not happy at all living in the circusses to entertain people who come buy the tickets. They are suffering.

Uluwatu Temple (Pura Uluwatu) is one of Bali's nine key directional temples (indonesia)
Uluwatu Temple (Pura Uluwatu) is one of Bali's nine key directional temples. Though a small temple was claimed to have existed beforehand, the structure was significantly expanded by a Javanese sage, Empu Kuturan in the 11th Century. Another sage from East Java, Dang Hyang Nirartha is credited for constructing the padmasana shrines and is claimed to have attained Moksha here. Even more remarkable than the temple itself is its location, perched on a steep cliff 70 metres above the roaring Indian ocean waves. There are more steep headlands on either side and sunsets over Uluwatu are a sight to behold.
The entrance fee from 2012 is Rp 30,000 and you need to be properly dressed to enter. Sarongs and sashes are available free at the entrance. Guides, once famously mercenary, hassle visitors less than they used to, although they will offer to protect you from the monkeys, for a tip of course. Note that while you are free to walk around the temple grounds, the central courtyards can only be entered during special rituals.
The temple is inhabited by large number of monkeys, who are extremely adept at snatching visitors' belonging, including bags, cameras and eyeglasses. Keep a very close grip on all your belongings and stow away your eyeglasses if at all possible. If you do have something taken, the monkeys can usually be induced to exchange it for some fruit. Needless to say, rewarding the monkeys like this only encourages them to steal more. Locals and even the temple priest or monkey ranger will be happy to do the job for you, for NO tip required.
The cliff is fascinating but the temple itself is not as impressive as others in Bali.
There is also a very scenic cave underneath with rock formations leading onto a beach close to the temple. This is a popular spot for surfers.
Get in there
The Bukit Peninsula is connected to Kuta through Jimbaran by the busy Jalan Bypass Nusa Dua and this is the only route in. Take this main road south to the junction with Jalan Uluwatu II (the famous McDonald's junction), turn west towards Jimbaran Bay, continue about 2 km and at the four road junction make a sharp left up the hill (signposted for Uluwatu). Continue on this road into the heart of the peninsula.
A taxi from Kuta to Uluwatu for example takes 30 to 40 minutes on winding roads and will cost about Rp 120,000 one-way. If you are just visiting for the day, consider asking the driver to wait trip as it can be difficult to find transport back. Figure on paying the taxi driver Rp 20,000/hour to wait. Joining a tour can be a cheaper way of getting to Uluwatu and this destination is very widely offered by tour operators all over the island.
