10 Things to do in Wrocław, Poland Travel Guide
In today’s video we’re taking you around Wroclaw. This was the second stop of our month-long trip through Poland, and we liked it right from Day 1. Our visit to the city was spent wandering through the University Quarter, cruising down the Oder River, stumbling into a secret courtyard, and enjoying a tasty meal or two along the way. The following is our travel guide to some of the best things to do in Wroclaw, Poland:
The University Quarter is located in the north end of the Old Town and it’s worth visiting even if your days as a student are over. Here you’ll find the University of Wroclaw, which is one of the oldest academic institutions in Central Europe. The architecture is also stunning! I mean, could you imagine being a student here?
Since we couldn’t visit the interior of the university, we stopped by the university church, also known as the Parish of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Admission is free of charge, though donations are welcome, and once you’re in, don’t forget to look up!
Continuing our random wanderings through Wroclaw, we reached the Ossolineum, which quickly piqued our curiosity. Once a hospital and convent, and later a college, today it houses one of the largest scientific libraries in Poland as well as the national archive. We visited the courtyard surrounded by mirrored windows and hydrangeas, and if felt like a secret garden.
Cathedral island is the oldest part of Wroclaw. It was formerly an island that sat between two branches of the Oder River, and while that’s no longer the case, it still has a cathedral.
With much better weather, we then followed the previous day’s path back to Cathedral Island. Along the way, we visited the Silver Arch, which is a pretty cool sculpture on one of the smaller islands, and then it was time for a river cruise.
Our next stop was Hala Targowa, or Market Hall. It’s a nice spot to hit up to get your daily supply of fresh fruits, deli meats, cheese and pastries, for a delicious yet affordable do-it-yourself meal.
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Wroclaw! As always, if you have any places to add to this list or any tips for fellow travellers share those below. Until next time and happy travels!

Cathedral of St Mary Magdalene in Wroclaw
The Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene (built in 1226-1232) is one of the oldest churches in Wrocław (Poland). It has two towers which were connected by the bridge (called “penitent bridge” or “witches` bridge” - today`s viewpoint) at the height of 47 metres. Of course there are a few legends about souls walking to and fro along this “sky bridge”. Inside the church you can admire a lot of medieval epitaphs and gravestones built in the walls. When you visit Wroclaw it is worth enter this church which is in the very center of the Old Town. If you are lucky you may listen to the old church music live.

Cardinal Mueller’s message at SLS20
Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Mueller, the former prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith celebrated Mass at the 2020 Student Leadership Summit hosted by the Fellowship of Catholic University Students in Arizona. In his homily, Cardinal Mueller Said the crisis in the Church is man-made and has arisen because we have cozily adapted ourselves to the spirit of a life without God. He said the poison paralyzing the Church is the opinion that we should adapt to the Zeitgeist, the spirit of the age, and not the spirit of God, that we should relativize God’s commandments and reinterpret the doctrine of the revealed faith. Mueller stressed that “We will be happy and free when in the spirit of love we embrace the form of life to which God has called each one of us personally: in the sacrament of marriage, in celibate priesthood, or in religious life according to the three evangelical counsels of poverty, obedience, and chastity for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.”
New administrative regulations for religious groups in China
New administrative regulations for religious groups will be implemented in China soon. According to the new measures, the activities, rallies, and programs of religious communities must have approval from the Religious Affairs Office. The new administrative measures would be put in place from Feb 1, 2020. The new measures would not only lead to having control of the Chinese government on all the community activities but will also require people or organizations to support, promote and implement total submission to the Chinese Communist Party. It also requires religious organizations to adhere to the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and spread their principles and policies.
CRS calls for help in drought-hit Zimbabwe
The regional director for South Africa of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Dorrett Byrd has called for assistance and international attention to the drought-hit country of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has been facing serious bouts of repeated drought since the last few years. The living condition has deteriorated so much that the families are struggling to provide even a single meal for themselves. Drought has hit the country for the consecutive fifth year now. The United Nation has estimated that nearly half of the 16 million people in the country are in urgent need of food. Byrd warned that the scarcity of food has forced many young people to leave the country. He said that migrating parents often leave their young children behind with grandparents who struggle to provide for them. Catholic Relief Services is working closely with farmers in Zimbabwe to teach soil and water conservation methods and also offering them drought-resistant crops for a better harvest.

Interfaith Dialog Award to Bishop John O’Hara at TCCSI Friendship Dinner 2016
TCCSI presented the Interfaith Dialog Award to Bishop John O'Hara at 7th Annual Friendship Dinner (2016)
----------------------------------------
Bishop O’Hara was ordained to the episcopacy by His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, on August 4, 2014, in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in mid-town Manhattan.
Appointed by Cardinal Dolan as Episcopal Vicar of both southern Manhattan and Staten Island, Bishop O’Hara is also serving the archdiocese as Vicar for Planning.
Born on February 7, 1946, in Jersey City, New Jersey, the first of three sons of the late John Joseph and Helen Elizabeth O’Hara, Bishop O’Hara was raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey, graduating from Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in 1959, Don Bosco High School in Ramsey, New Jersey in 1963, and Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, with a BA degree in English in 1967.
Prior to entering Saint Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, Yonkers, New York in September, 1980, the future bishop worked in the communications field, serving first at Radio Station WERA in Plainfield, New Jersey, from 1967 to 1969, and later, from 1971 to 1980, at Radio Station WMTR/WDHA in Morristown, New Jersey, where he was named the station’s News Director in 1978.
Upon completion of his priestly formation at Dunwoodie, the future bishop was ordained to the priesthood on December 1, 1984 in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral by the late John Cardinal O’Connor. He served as parochial vicar at Saint Charles Parish in Oakwood Heights, Staten Island, from December, 1984, until October, 1992, when he was transferred to the Parish of Saint Teresa of the Infant Jesus in Castleton Corners, Staten Island. After eight years as parochial vicar, Bishop O’Hara was appointed Pastor of Saint Teresa’s on July 1, 2000, by the late Edward Cardinal Egan. During his years on Staten Island, Bishop O’Hara was very involved in ecumenical/interreligious dialogue, seeking to build bridges of communication and understanding among the Island’s very diverse faith communities…an involvement that continues to this day and has expanded to include Manhattan.
Following twelve years as pastor, Bishop O’Hara was appointed the first Director of the Office of Strategic Pastoral Planning by Cardinal Dolan on July 1, 2012. In this capacity, Bishop O’Hara supervised the ongoing reorganization of parishes throughout the archdiocese…a process that is continuing under his guidance in his role as Vicar for Planning.
Bishop O’Hara was appointed by Cardinal Dolan as a member of the ecumenical/interfaith Committee of Religious Leaders, which meets on a regular basis to address issues of community concern and to provide leadership in promoting understanding and dialogue among all peoples living with the five boros of New York City. A chaplain to and member of both the Knights of Malta and the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, Bishop O’Hara also serves as a board member of the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America.
Pope Francis, appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of New York on June 14, 2014. In April, 2015, Bishop O’Hara returned to Staten Island to take up residence in the rectory of Saint Charles Parish, where he began as a newly ordained priest in December, 1984.
