Inside Brew: Philly on Tap Tours with Urban Adventures
I Found the BEST SPOT!! Incredible Pike Fishing
Floating an unfamiliar river for some super aggressive pike. I searched around for a while, and then found one of the best pike holes I've fished in a while!
Fly rod: 9' 8wt Orvis Clearwater rod (4 piece)
Reel: Waterworks‑Lamson Liquid Fly Reel 3.5
Line: 8wt scientific anglers fly line, 20lb tapered flouro leader with a 20lb RIO wire tippet.
Rod/reel setup:
-Quantum Octane 6'6 medium heavy action rod with an Abu Garcia silver max and 30lb braided line, connected to a 27lb 9 steel leader.
***The rod and reel I was using is a cheap setup, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I only use it at the river in case something happens, I'd rather break that than an expensive rod/reel.
Abandoned Philadelphia Home for Sale Is Booby Trapped
A real estate investor in Philadelphia is lucky to be alive after finding multiple booby traps in an abandoned home while on a viewing. Ekrem Uysaler discovered a large, swinging knife duct-taped to a crutch, activated by a tripwire. He also found a pile of broken glass on the stairs, as well as a floor board with more than a dozen spikes sticking out of it. “I have never seen anything like this before,” said Uysaler.

32. The Power and Process of Creating Independence National Historical Park in Urban Philadelphia
Congress’s 1948 legislation for Independence National Historical Park (INHP) opened opportunities for a new kind of national park. The efforts of Philadelphians to establish and then be involved in the design of the federal park have been sustained through generations. The federal designation of approximately 50 acres in Philadelphia, with Independence Hall at the core, highlighted history and national landmarks, championed partnerships, and was planned also to revitalize private investment in neighboring historic properties and to establish connector green spaces between federal property and city property. Those were new ideas in 1948. Design opinions from local and federal experts were not always in sync but all agreed that the new park would be a major civic improvement. Architectural and landscape design have been conscientiously edited and selected in every phase of the park’s physical evolution from the 1950s to the current day and have been precedent setting in many ways. Interestingly, while the significance of events and historic buildings are the raison d’etre for the park, the green spaces have proven to be of vital importance. By most accounts the original goals for the park have been realized.
First, massive building demolition sparked some controversy that occasionally echoes today. Then, colonial revival design walls and gates, which are probably mistaken today as 18th century elements, were constructed to knit the city blocks into a subtly identifiable whole park and associated properties, like Christ Church cemetery and Washington Square. Advocates for formal axes (Edmund Bacon) won with the creation of open land to the north of Independence Hall, while advocates for use of historic street patterns and an urban sense of enclosure (Charles Peterson) could see their vision realized in the treatment of property east of Independence Hall, in ground level pavement, and in low brick wall outlines of missing buildings. Numerous historic structures were restored to their original appearance and some almost completely reconstructed. Venturi and Scott-Brown’s Franklin Court provided innovation in design rather than reconstruction of historic buildings, while using traditional materials. New gardens received special treatment from partners.
In 1997 there was both an opportunity to reexamine the mall design and an obligation to fix a location miscalculation of the park visitor center. Non-federal money enabled the mall to be redesigned in the late 1990s through the OLIN Partnership and other prominent architectural firms (Bohlin-Cywinski-Jackson, KMW, and Pei). This redesign was informed by a rigorous public engagement process for a master plan and adhered to the original vista concept. The new visitor center was built on the mall in 2001; in 2003 a building to house the Liberty Bell was constructed on the west side of the mall (and amended to interpret the Presidents’ House site); and the Independence Mall landscape was re-designed, and bookended in 2000 at the north end of the third block by the National Constitution Center/museum, that breaks from tradition in its form. Ideas new in 1948 have been sustained and are still proving their worth even if perspective on the novelty has changed.

What is TERMINATING VISTA? What does TERMINATING VISTA mean? TERMINATING VISTA meaning - TERMINATING VISTA definition - TERMINATING VISTA explanation.

In urban design, a terminating vista is a building or monument that stands at the end or in the middle of a road, so that when one is looking up the street the view ends with the site.
Terminating vistas are considered an important method of adding aesthetic appeal to a city, and to emphasize important structures or monuments. Common terminating vistas include government buildings, war memorials, courthouses and other important structures. Standing at the end of a street adds grandeur to a structure, and legislature and palaces are thus often placed in such a locale.
The important disadvantage of terminating vistas is that they make traffic more complicated and prevent a simple grid system of city blocks. To accommodate them, large traffic circles or other techniques have to be employed to get traffic around the monument. Cities on a grid system such as New York City thus have few terminating vistas. A prominent NYC exception is the controversial MetLife Building, which was built on top of Park Avenue.
A city particularly known for its terminating vistas is Paris, where many of the largest streets end in monuments and structures such as the Arc de Triomphe, Palais Garnier or the Panthéon. Another well-known example is Washington, D.C., where, most notably, the United States Capitol provides the terminating vista for North, South, and East Capitol Streets, as well as the National Mall and either side of Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania Avenues (which are all bisected by the Capitol, turning into pedestrian walkways around the edifice).
Philadelphia's City Hall is another example, situated on Penn Square where Broad and Market Streets intersect. The two streets form the north-south and east-west axes of the city's core grid, leaving the large masonry structure visible from all sections of the city.
How to Evict a Tenant
Watch more All about Apartment Rentals videos:
Take pains to remove a renter from your property legally, or you could find yourself on the wrong side of the law.
Step 1: Check your local laws
Contact your county clerk's office to check the laws governing eviction proceedings in your jurisdiction.
Tip
If you are managing government-subsidized housing, follow the eviction rules established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Step 2: Know your rights
Know the valid reasons for evicting a tenant, which include nonpayment of rent, a violation of their lease, and creating a health or safety problem. Landlords do not need a reason to evict month-to-month tenants, and they can choose not to renew a tenant's lease without giving a reason.
Step 3: Don't evict on your own
Don't attempt to evict your tenant by force, or try to get them to leave by cutting off their heat or water, changing their locks, or tossing their possessions. These methods are all illegal.
Step 4: Have a paper trail
Have your documentation in order, including a copy of the lease, written notices you have sent to the tenant concerning any problems, and any other proof of your claim, like bounced rent checks or photos of property damage.
Step 5: Give them fair notice
Let the tenant know in writing that you are planning to evict them if they don't pay their rent or correct a violation by a certain date. How much time you must give them varies from state to state.
Tip
If you are evicting a month-to-month tenant without cause, make sure you are giving the advance notice required by your state, which can be anywhere from 20 to 90 days.
Step 6: Go to court
If the tenant hasn't addressed the problem within the time frame cited, file an eviction notice with the local court. If the tenant doesn't respond within the time defined by the court, you win by default. If the tenant challenges the eviction, the case may go to a hearing.
Step 7: Post a notice
If you win the case, a representative of the court – like a sheriff, marshal, or constable – will post a notice on the tenant's door giving them a move-out date, at which time the tenant and their possessions will be forcibly removed from the premises by the court representative if they haven't vacated on their own.
Step 8: Cover their cost
If the tenant wins, you will have to let them stay and pay their costs of fighting the eviction, in most cases. So be sure to follow the letter of the law before starting proceedings!
Did You Know?
The number of cases landlords filed in New York City for back rent rose 19 percent in the first two months of 2009.

History Snapshot: Centennial Bell Tower
Construction on the Pitt State Centennial Bell Tower began in June of the year 2000. The idea for the bell tower came from discussions about a project that would commemorate the university centennial and point the way to the university's second century. The senior classes of 1993 through 1996 contributed to the construction of the Bell Tower and it's located between the Axe Library and the football stadium on Joplin Street. The Centennial Bell Tower was completed and then dedicated in October of 2000. Interesting fact about the Bell Tower, back in 2004, Pittsburg State placed a time capsule below its foundation. Centennial memorabilia, university publications, and recordings were among the thirty-one items selected for placement in the capsule. The Bell Tower is the site of a new tradition at the University where all incoming freshmen and graduating seniors are given the opportunity to ring the bell as a signal to the world that they are a Pitt State Gorilla.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Documentary
Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. The signing of the Residence Act on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. The U.S. Constitution provided for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Congress and the District is therefore not a part of any state. The states of Maryland and Virginia each donated land to form the federal district, which included the pre-existing settlements of Georgetown and Alexandria. Named in honor of President George Washington, the City of Washington was founded in 1791 to serve as the new national capital. In 1846, Congress returned the land originally ceded by Virginia; in 1871, it created a single municipal government for the remaining portion of the District. Washington had an estimated population of 681,170 as of July 2016. Commut...
