Velankanni Beach | Gorai | Uttan beach | Exploring Mumbai | (bhayander) | Vlog
At coastal location of Mumbai North Suburb is this less frequented beach located at Uttan village of Bhayander. If you are a sea food lover, then this beach has varieties of fresh fishes like Prawns, Bombil, Bangara, Pomfret and Chala fish from same Uttan beach daily catch as the fishes can be seen drying along the coastal on bamboo stick frames. Since the vicinity has major koli community people whose prime business is fishing, Most of the village locals and others staying at adjacent beaches like Gorai, Tarodi, Manori, Morva, Pali and Dongri eats fresh fishes with bhakari (Wheat recipe looks like thick chapati / roti) and with rice or Ghavan.
Uttan Beach – Mumbai Suburb Beach and Resorts at Uttan Bhayander
“Uttan village located at 7 km from Bhayander railway station (Mumbai Suburb, North) has this Uttan beach. Ulttan Beach Sunset
A connected beach adjacent is called ‘Uttan Virgin Beach’ of Bhayander since it is smaller and bit isolated less footfalls. Also note that locals near beach also referred it as Velankanni beach as the surrounding has the famous Velankanni Church, Vandan Gruha and Our Lady of Velankanni Shrine. The pleasant climate of this beach with a typical village looks can make your one day picnic worth here as enough stay options like Hotels and Resorts ara available near beach and around Other villages around Uttan. The serine beach is far from city honking and chaos and few may get a feel of some Goa beach as it has enough trees and shades. An old Christian’s Cross structure instrument representing the crucifixion of Jesus near beach entry talks about the community at Uttan beach and some story when Portugals ruled Mumbai / Maharashtra.

Gorai Beach | Mumbai | India | Places To Visit Near Mumbai | [HD]
Beach Attractions:
Ideal Day and Overnight Picnic Spot : Gorai is one of the most frequented beaches of Mumbai north suburb. Couples prefers this beach due to easy accessibility from Bhayandar and Borivali and also lots of resorts, cottages available too. It is one of the safest and cleanest beaches with ample space to have fun with your picnic group, ride bikes, ride camel or go inside sea for a boat ride. Hang around at full moon nights (In Group Only) is romantic and so is one of the beach for night hangout as many resorts are available on Uttan Road for overnight stay.
Festival Attractions on Beach : Holi (Festival of Colours) and Ganesh Visarjan (Immersion of Ganesh Idols) are two major Indian festivals .
Its a Lovers Point Beach : Gorai beach is known to be frequented by couples since last 3 to 4 decades as there were hardly any locations of isolation to spend quality time and get cosy with the partner, that too without parents knowing. Unlike today, those days 2 decades back, friendship dating and getting away from home for few hours was not that easy for girls. Gorai beach was not as much frequented and crowded like today and was so much a perfect lovers beach and still is.
Another reason i called Gorai a lovers point is the easy access to cottage rooms which are available on hourly basis, unlike the costly resorts which not all college going guys can afford. Ask any couple of suburb colleges for a good lovers point or a beach in vicinity and they will point to Gorai. The beach is beautiful and easy accessible from both Borivali and Bhayandar. The Ferry ride makes it exciting too, Although the creek area is bit smelly. Get outside Borivali station platform no.1 towards virar and first thing a Auto driver ask a young college couple is a single word ‘GORAI ?’.
Specialty of Gorai beach :
Food and Fun Options on Beach : Keep munching food items available at hawkers like Baraf Golas (Like Ice Candy), Chana Masala, Bhek Puri & Pani Puri. If around Rainy days a fun to eat Hot Sweet Corn and Roasted Full Corn (Called Bhutta) on Gorai beach is a different fun all together. For non-vegeterians, fresh catch fishes are a boon here and Pomfret is a must to try at much cheaper cost compared to other locations of Mumbai. For Vegeterians, sad to say food quality is average all around.
Ride horses and camels as and when available. Boat rides at Rs.100 per person is another fun to be inside huge sea and look at the beach front. Hey tourists, if you want to feel the real Mumbai way of people on beaches, this is it and is sure different from Juhu Chowpatty & Girgaum beach. But if you are here looking out for a serene beach of Mumbai suburb, This is not for you as most of the time it is crowded as clean, beautiful and wide.
There is ample car parking area around beach and you are allowed to drive your vehicle inside the beach too.
How to Reach Gorai Beach Via Borivali or Bhayandar
Via Borivali, Mumbai North Suburb
You need to reach ‘Gorai Ferry Point’ from Borivali Railway Station (West) with Road Distance of 3.6 Km taking 17 Minutes in an Auto or Bus. Take LT Road opposite railway station which goes straight and connects Gorai Road to reach this Jetty. Two Wheelers are allowed on Ferry of ‘Dolphin Boat Club’ which ply at every 15 minutes to and from other side of creek towards Gorai.
Once on other side of creek, Gorai beach is at 4.3 Km road travel on Gorai Borivali Road which will take another 8 Minutes. Auto services available for same.
Via Bhayandar, Far North of Mumbai
Bhayandar railway station is at North Suburb beyond Borivali towards Virar. See station names for reference.
Once at Bhayandar railway station west, Auto and Bus options are available which takes about 30 to 40 minutes covering distance of 14.3 Km on Uttan road which goes straight to beach.
By Road
Those planning private vehicle (Car etc), Will have to reach via Bhayandar route only. From National Highway 8, Get inside Kashi-Mira junction and keep straight. After 5 to 7 minutes of drive you will reach Bhayandar East West Flyover on left. Now keep following Essel World sign board and go straight on Uttan Road to reach Gorai beach. See Road Map & Route below.

Gorai is bordered by the villages of Manori and Uttan, Pali, Chowk, Dongri, Tarodi, Rai, Morva and Murdhe. Until the 1980s, Gorai was known for its clean beaches and palm trees. However, with the increase in pollution around Mumbai, the Arabian Sea is unfit for swimming although Gorai is less polluted than the other beaches in Mumbai. Gorai still enjoys its calm, laid back charm quite in contrast to the fast-paced life of the city just on the other side of the creek. Bullock carts are still in use here and the area suffers from a water shortage but with real-estate developers steadily bulldozing their way into this prized suburban tract, the physical and cultural fabric of the villagers of Gorai is now quite endangered.
The Essel World amusement park has been set up in part of Gorai, by expropriating lands from the East Indians without a fair compensation and in the teeth of their protests. Essel World promised to build a school, dispensary and give jobs to the locals of Gorai. None of these have materialized. The Global Vipassana Pagoda, featuring the tallest pillar-less dome in the world, a place for meditation, is built on 13 acres of land near Gorai. It is similar in shape to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar.
The peninsula protruding off the north-west of Salsette island known as Dharavi Bhet once used to be an island called Dharavi, part of a group of Islands off the Salsette coast separated by the Manori Creek that connected to the Vasai Creek. Vesava, Marve and Rai Murdhe were the names of the other islands. These islands remained separate till as late as 1825 when Col. Jervis's map showed the west coast of Salsette broken into eight large and four small islands. In 1882, one could walk across the tidal inlets during low tides to reach these islands. The island of Dharavi, however, had to be reached by a boat. However, with the building of the railways over the Ghodbunder Creek, and with successive urbanization and reclamation of the tidal inlets, the Island is now effectively a peninsula attached to Salsette Island. North Dharavi Island which falls in the Thane district while the south is included in the Mumbai Suburban District.
The aesthetically appealing Dharavi Bhet is rich in resources and is a tourist attraction. The population of the 10 villages of Dharavi Bhet is approximately 1,50,000. 60% of these are fisherfolk who own approximately 4000 small and big fishing boats. Fish worth 25 crore rupees is exported annually. Moreover, there are 7 fishworker's government organisations that have worked for the progress and development of the community that is under threat of being displaced. About 25% of the people from the 10 villages are occupied in agriculture. Along with rice, the farmers grow a variety of crops including vegetables and pulses. The area is famed for its mango and coconut plantations. Vegetables and fruits are consumed by the neighbouring Mumbai city. The people of Rai, Morva and Murdha villages harvest salt from salt water pans. This salt pan industry is responsible for providing employment to thousands of workers
