Moffett Federal Airfield
Moffett Federal Airfield (IATA: NUQ, ICAO: KNUQ, FAA LID: NUQ), also known as Moffett Field, is a joint civil-military airport located between southern Mountain View and northern Sunnyvale, California, USA.
The airport is near the south end of San Francisco Bay, northwest of San Jose. Formerly a United States Navy facility, the former naval air station is now owned and operated by the NASA Ames Research Center. Tenant military activities include the 129th Rescue Wing of the California Air National Guard, operating the MC-130P Combat Shadow and HH-60G Pave Hawk aircraft, as well as the adjacent Headquarters for the 7th Psychological Operations Group of the U.S. Army Reserve. Until 28 July 2010, the U.S. Air Force's 21st Space Operations Squadron was also a tenant command at Moffett Field, occupying the former Onizuka Air Force Station. In addition to these military activities, NASA also operates several of its own aircraft from Moffett. On November 10, 2014, NASA announced that it would lease the airfield to Google for 60 years. The technology company plans to use the facility for research and development purposes, along with public outreach programs.

Cult Escape - My Experience in the Potter's House Christian Church / Wayman Mitchell / CFM
At 14 years old, I was introduced to the Potter's House Church by my sister who had organised with a member to be picked up to attend their Sunday service. At the first service, I was scared of the shouting in tongues to pray but also noted that this was called a 'church' therefore reasoned that it was a safe place. Slowly over my adolescent vulnerable years, perhaps in a way to connect to my sister who I considered my only relative who could understand our broken home and troubled upbringing, I attended more and more events of the church subsequent their tactic of ‘love bombing’. By 18 I was 'locked in’; that is, I obeyed all the rules including attending all calendar events and disclosing all personal decisions to leaders and following their advice. To not do the aforementioned was labelled 'rebellion' and 'following the devil'. This routine went on for six years where I was at the church building or outreaches almost every day of the week. Questions were discouraged in the church and archaic practices were considered in vogue. For example, education was discouraged, logical thinking was valued lower than the pastors wisdom, females could not hold leadership positions, families do best when mothers' stay at home, physical infirmities were considered to be caused by 'curses' or 'undisclosed sin' etcetera. Eventually, the rules and doctrines of the church stirred a visceral reaction in me to leave the monstrous, unrighteous place. Credit and many thanks to Ash for making this : )
Why red light cameras are a scam
Redlight camera tickets aren’t just a nuisance to drivers, they also cost cities millions.
Many drivers are familiar with receiving the dreaded automated traffic enforcement photo for running a red light. While red light cameras have been reported to reduce broadside crashes, it has been shown these cameras increase rear-end collisions as well. In addition, numerous tickets aren't going to people running straight through red lights, but drivers failing to make a complete stop while turning on red. Safety is touted as the biggest concern but there are better long term solutions than municipalities installing red light cameras. Building more roundabouts and lengthening yellow lights are just two of several cheaper alternatives to red light cameras.

AAS Eclipse Workshop 2017
On 21 August 2017, a total eclipse of the Sun will cross the United States from coast to coast, giving tens of millions of people in a 70-mile-wide path from Oregon to South Carolina a chance to see the solar corona and experience all phases of the eclipse. The Moon's shadow will sweep across the country starting mid morning in Oregon with just under two minutes of totality and reaching maximum duration of approximately 2 minutes 40 seconds in Southern Illinois before exiting over South Carolina mid afternoon.
Outside the path of totality, all of North America will experience a partial eclipse. This event, the first total solar eclipse to touch the US mainland since 1979 and the first to span the continent since 1918, presents a unique opportunity to excite people about science and connect them personally to the cosmos, as well as to conduct several important scientific observations. We are a working group dedicated to the science and public outreach of this unique event.
The Eclipse 2017 Workshop IV took place in Carbondale, Illinois, on Friday and Saturday, 10 and 11 June 2016, at the SIU Carbondale Student Center, hosted by Bob Baer and Shadia Habbal.

Personal Safety for RVers w/Jim Koca (Webinar #22)
Welcome to Escapees Webinars! These broadcasts are intended to connect the RV-curious, or even experienced RVer, with those who have in-depth knowledge of various facets of the lifestyle.
Here, we spoke with Jim Koca, Director of Education for Escapees RV Club. He travels full-time in his RV with his wife, Lisa. They split their time between teaching RVers Boot Camp sessions and hosting adventures for fellow RVers, all for Escapees RV Club. In addition to his work with Escapees, Jim is a retired law enforcement officer, has many years of experience in accident reconstruction, and has an insatiable curiosity for how things work.
In this broadcast, Jim shared several important tips for protecting both yourself and your property as you enjoy your RV. His advice comes from his years of traveling in various types of RVs, research conducted while working in law enforcement, and bits of information he has learned from fellow RVers himself!
Tips covered today:
Find a safe RV park- there are many apps and websites out there to help you research ideal parks and learn from others' experience.
Install motion lights- very useful when you're returning to your rig after dark or need to take the dog out for a late night potty break
Replace your bay/storage locks- MANY other items out there have this identical key, CH 751, so replacing your locks makes it harder for a thief to get into your storage bays (ch751.com)
Hide your valuables- use products like Hide-a-Cans, fireproof safes, and other methods of concealment to secure your valuable belongings
Get a cellphone booster- these help you maintain a usable signal even in some remote areas
Choose your self-defense weapons carefully- Jim covers several of the options, from firearms to defensive sprays
Carry a weather radio- stay aware of your surroundings
Install a peephole in your RV door- this allows you to see who is knocking without opening your door
For solo travelers, pick up spare boots or a dog leash and keep them outside your rig- this indicates you aren't as alone as someone may assume
Don't be afraid to move- if you're uncomfortable with where you've parked, move
Keep your key fob handy- you can use it to set off your alarm to notify someone you need help or to deter an intruder
For solo travelers, use tracking apps or coordinates to share your location with trusted friends
Avoid posting your travels to social media in real-time
Consider installing a deadbolt on your RV door- -it's much stronger than the factory lock
If leaving your towable behind, use hitch locks to make it harder to steal your trailer
Interested in learning more about RV safety, operation, and maintenance? Jim joins many other valuable instructors in leading our RVers Online University and RVers Boot Camp educational programs.

Freedman's Bank 150th Anniversary Celebration
On March 3, 2015, Operation HOPE Forums and the Afro-American History Society of the National Archives (AAHS) will recognize the 150th anniversary of the Freedman's Bank. Established on March 3, 1865, by President Abraham Lincoln, the Bank was a landmark institution that had over $57 million in deposits and 70,000 depositors. The Bank's records remain the single largest repository of lineage-linked African-American genealogy, containing upwards of 480,000 names.
Members of AAHS will present Freedman's Bank records at the National Archives, and there will be a moderated discussion with Operation HOPE Founder John Hope Bryant, Ambassador Andrew Young, ESSENCE Magazine Editor-In-Chief Vanessa DeLuca, and other dignitaries on the historical significance of the Bank and how its unfinished journey still resonates today in issues of poverty, income inequality, and race relations. A reception will follow.
The event is free and open to the public, register online.
