Installment credit is used for a specific purpose, for a defined amount and for a specific period. Payments are usually the same amount each month. Examples of purchases made on installment credit include large appliances, automobiles and furniture. These kinds of loans usually offer lower interest rates than revolving credit. For example, a car company holds a lien on the car until the car loan is repaid. The total amount of the principal and interest is repaid within a predefined period. If the customer defaults on the loan payments, the company can repossess the car and charge penalties. Unfortunately, many divorced people find their credit in shambles in the months and years after their divorce. So, if you are going through a divorce, work to eliminate the negative impact it can have on your credit. Make sure that all joint bills are being paid. Remember that taking steps to protect your credit during divorce should begin when you first separate or start thinking about getting divorce.

Spring Heat Wave
A record-tying early-spring heat wave had people in the Upstate struggling to stay cool this week.
Temperatures at Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (GSP) Monday tied the all-time record high for today's date at 91 degrees, set way back in 1934. The National Weather Service recorded temperatures of 92 degrees at Greenville's city airport late in the day. According to the NWS records, the hottest May day ever in Greenville was 100 degrees on May 28, 1916.
It's May, not June or July yet! said Randall Knight. He owns a barbecue company that caters throughout the year, but mainly during summer months. I am a little surprised, I was expecting cooler weather just a little bit longer.
Knight came home Sunday from a trip to Charleston to find his HVAC system was running--but nothing was coming out.
So I went back to look at the unit, and it was frozen, said Knight. Like many other people in the Upstate, he called in professional help. Carolina Heating Service said their phone has been ringing off the hook.
A lot of people haven't operated it since last year, so they're finding out that the system might be down on the air conditioning side, said Mark Dyer, a comfort consultant for CHS.
Even for those whose air conditioning was working, staying cool--especially with kids who want to play outside--was a tall order Monday.
The playground is pretty short lived, because it just gets too hot too fast, said Cary Welker, whose toddler, Easton, had just hopped out of the waterfall fountain in downtown Greenville. This is a great option for us to get him in the water, wear him out, and go home and take a nap, Welker said with a laugh.
Early spring weather can be especially hard on Moms because most pools aren't open this early in the season. For those with young children, the waterfall is a great, quick option for getting the kids wet.
Right, no pool, and she can't swim yet, so this is good for her to splash around in, said mother Alona Jackson.
Temperatures in the Upstate are expected to stay in the 80s and 90s for at least the next few days.

South Carolina Cop Shoots Unarmed Black Man, Walter Scott, In The Back
A white South Carolina police officer has been charged with murder after a video showed him shooting an apparently unarmed African-American man who was running away. The killing happened Saturday morning after North Charleston police officer Michael Slager stopped Walter Scott for a broken brake light. On the video, Slager is seen shooting at Scott eight times as he tries to flee. The North Charleston Police Department had initially defended Slager after he said he feared for his life and claimed Scott had taken his taser weapon. But the video shows Slager shot Scott in the back at a distance of about 15 feet. The video also appears to capture Slager planting an object next to Scott — possibly the taser gun. The video does not appear to show Scott in possession of the officer's stun gun at any time. We are joined by longtime South Carolina civil rights activist Kevin Alexander Gray, editor of the book Killing Trayvons: An Anthology of American Violence.

Fishing Vessel hits large Sailing Vessel in Good Visibility 20/8/2010
Here is the press release from this incident.
At a hearing 30/05/2011 at Southampton Magistrates the Officer of the Watch of a fishing vessel pleaded guilty to one safety charge brought under Section 58 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995. He was fined £1,700 plus costs of £6,435.
On the 20th August 2010 the Andrea had finished fishing and was returning to port in the Netherlands. The skipper and rest of the crew were below leaving Jan Baarssen alone on the bridge in sole charge of the vessel. The Andrea is a 36.5 metre beam trawler registered in the UK but is based in the Netherlands
The Alexander von Humboldt was returning to Germany after a training voyage with a crew of fifty nine (59) consisting of thirty three (33) trainees and twenty six (26) full time crew. She is a large three masted sail training vessel registered in Germany.
The visibility on the day was good (10 Km +), wind was southerly force 5-6 with weather being grey and overcast.
During the afternoon of the 20th August 2011 the Alexander von Humboldt detected the Andrea on a steady bearing on its port side. The Andrea was not fishing and was the give way vessel. The Alexander von Humboldt started sounding its whistle. The Andrea failed to give way. The Alexander von Humboldt also tried to contact the Andrea by VHF radio but had no response. The Andrea claims to have gone hard to starboard and when within 15-20 metres of the Alex von Humboldt, the Andrea was seen to go full astern. The Andrea struck the port quarter of the Alexander von Humboldt. It was a fairly low speed collision.
Apart from some scratched paintwork, the Andrea was undamaged.
The Alexander von Humboldt was lucky to suffer only some dented shell plating with associated damage to internal wooden bulkheads and deck planking together with bent or buckled handrails. It was very fortunate that no harm came to the crew of the Alexander von Humboldt and that its rigging and watertight integrity remained intact.
Mr Jan Baarssen, 51, of Urk, Netherlands pleaded guilty for conduct endangering ships or persons. He was finerd£1,700 plus costs of £6,435
In passing sentence the Magistrates stated that it was fortunate that they were no injuries especially among the sail training crew.
Mr David Fuller O.B.E., Principal Fishing Vessel Surveyor for the Eastern Region of the MCA stated:This is yet another incident occurring on the return of a fishing vessel to harbour. Fishermen are reminded of the requirement to keep a good lookout at all times. Also that that the trip is not over until the vessel is safely tied up in port.
We would like to thank the German and Netherlands Police for their assistance in this matter

AAS Eclipse Workshop 2017
On 21 August 2017, a total eclipse of the Sun will cross the United States from coast to coast, giving tens of millions of people in a 70-mile-wide path from Oregon to South Carolina a chance to see the solar corona and experience all phases of the eclipse. The Moon's shadow will sweep across the country starting mid morning in Oregon with just under two minutes of totality and reaching maximum duration of approximately 2 minutes 40 seconds in Southern Illinois before exiting over South Carolina mid afternoon.
Outside the path of totality, all of North America will experience a partial eclipse. This event, the first total solar eclipse to touch the US mainland since 1979 and the first to span the continent since 1918, presents a unique opportunity to excite people about science and connect them personally to the cosmos, as well as to conduct several important scientific observations. We are a working group dedicated to the science and public outreach of this unique event.
The Eclipse 2017 Workshop IV took place in Carbondale, Illinois, on Friday and Saturday, 10 and 11 June 2016, at the SIU Carbondale Student Center, hosted by Bob Baer and Shadia Habbal.
