Atlantic City Casinos, Hotels and Beaches, Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey
Atlantic City is a resort city in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States, known for its casinos, boardwalks, and beaches. In 2010, it had a population of 39,558. The city was incorporated on May 1, 1854, from portions of Egg Harbor Township and Galloway Township. It borders Absecon, Brigantine, Pleasantville, Ventnor City, West Atlantic City, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Atlantic City inspired the American version of the board game Monopoly, especially the street names. Since 1921, Atlantic City has been the home of the Miss America pageant.
Atlantic City is considered the Gambling Capital of the East Coast, and currently has seven large casinos. In 2011, New Jersey's then 12 casinos employed approximately 33,000 employees, had 28.5 million visitors, made $3.3 billion in gaming revenue, and paid $278 million in taxes. They are regulated by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission and the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
In the wake of the United States' economic downturn and the legalization of gambling in adjacent and nearby states (including Delaware, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania), four casino closures took place in 2014: the Atlantic Club on January 13; the Showboat on August 31; the Revel, which was Atlantic City's second-newest casino, on September 2; and Trump Plaza, which originally opened in 1984, and was the poorest performing casino in the city, on September 16.
Executives at Trump Entertainment Resorts, whose sole remaining property at the time was the Trump Taj Mahal, said in 2013 that they were considering the option of selling the Taj and winding down and exiting the gaming and hotel business. Trump Taj Mahal closed October 10, 2016 after failing to come to terms with union workers.
Caesars Entertainment executives have been reconsidering the future of their three remaining Atlantic City properties (Bally's, Caesars and Harrah's), in the wake of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by the company's casino operating unit in January 2015.
The Atlantic City Boardwalk opened on June 26, 1870, a temporary structure erected for the summer season that was the first boardwalk in the United States.
The Boardwalk starts at Absecon Inlet in the north and runs along the beach south-west to the city limit 4 miles (6.4 km) away then continues 1 1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) into Ventnor City. Casinos and hotels front the boardwalk, as well as retail stores, restaurants, and amusements. Notable attractions include the Boardwalk Hall, House of Blues, and the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum.

AC in the Good Ole Days Pt 1
During the early part of the 20th century, Atlantic City went through a radical building boom. Many of the modest boarding houses that dotted the boardwalk were replaced with large hotels. Two of the city's most distinctive hotels were the Marlborough-Blenheim Hotel and the Traymore Hotel.
In 1903, Josiah White III bought a parcel of land near Ohio Avenue and the boardwalk and built the Queen Anne style Marlborough House. The hotel was a hit and, in 1905–06, he chose to expand the hotel and bought another parcel of land next door to his Marlborough House. In an effort to make his new hotel a source of conversation, White hired the architectural firm of Price and McLanahan. The firm made use of reinforced concrete, a new building material invented by Jean-Louis Lambot in 1848 (Joseph Monier received the patent in 1867). The hotel's Spanish and Moorish themes, capped off with its signature dome and chimneys, represented a step forward from other hotels that had a classically designed influence. White named the new hotel the Blenheim and merged the two hotels into the Marlborough-Blenheim. Bally's Atlantic City was later constructed at this location.
The Traymore Hotel was located at the corner of Illinois Avenue and the boardwalk. Begun in 1879 as a small boarding house, the hotel grew through a series of uncoordinated expansions. By 1914, the hotel's owner, Daniel White, taking a hint from the Marlborough-Blenheim, commissioned the firm of Price and McLanahan to build an even bigger hotel. Rising 16 stories, the tan brick and gold-capped hotel would become one of the city's best-known landmarks. The hotel made use of ocean-facing hotel rooms by jutting its wings farther from the main portion of the hotel along Pacific Avenue.
One by one, additional large hotels were constructed along the boardwalk, including the Brighton, Chelsea, Shelburne, Ambassador, Ritz Carlton, Mayflower, Madison House, and the Breakers. The Quaker-owned Chalfonte House, opened in 1868, and Haddon House, opened in 1869, flanked North Carolina Avenue at the beach end. Their original wood-frame structures would be enlarged, and even moved closer to the beach, over the years. The modern Chalfonte Hotel, eight stories tall, opened in 1904. The modern Haddon Hall was built in stages and was completed in 1929, at eleven stories. By this time, they were under the same ownership and merged into the Chalfonte-Haddon Hall Hotel, becoming the city's largest hotel with nearly 1,000 rooms. By 1930, the Claridge, the city's last large hotel before the casinos, opened its doors. The 400-room Claridge was built by a partnership that included renowned Philadelphia contractor John McShain. At 24 stories, it would become known as the Skyscraper By The Sea. The city became known as the The World's Playground.

1940s ATLANTIC CITY NEW JERSEY PROMOTIONAL FILM ON THE BOARDWALK 79624
Made in an era when Atlantic City was one of America's pre-eminent tourist destinations, ON THE BOARDWALK was created and presented by the Convention Bureau of Atlantic City (:10). As the film begins, tourists arrive by Eastern Airlines airplane, train, and by Twin Coach bus. Atlantic City was once no more than a fishing village, yet today is one of the most prominent vacation destinations (:48) and boasted a famed boardwalk lined with seven miles of white sands (:58). Travelers from every state, and some countries, arrived through airlines (1:32) and easily accessible highways (1:39). A varied sort of hotels existed from the more luxurious on the boardwalk (1:59) to the more reasonably priced off (2:25). A wide range of activities exists throughout the city regardless of where one stayed (2:41). The Atlantic City Beach Patrol is shown and it’s well trained lifeguards are attuned to sun bathers as well as swimmers (3:14). The city was considered a hot spot for newlyweds and honeymooners (3:37). It suited the youth as well as older generations (4:05). The boardwalk was designed to have exciting shops lining one side and stunning view of the ocean along the other (5:03). The best way to describe the unique attraction was as a massive cruise deck (5:09). Besides ocean swimming, pools existed as an alternative (5:27). Activities, whether they be strenuous or not were available for all ages (6:15). The nightlife was full of entertainment in forms of restaurants, nightclubs and amusement parks (6:32). At the Convention Center, the Ice Capades show is rehearsed and will travel to cities all over the coast (7:04). Bicycling down the boardwalk (7:35) and horseback riding along the shores are offered to vacationers. In addition, the large public sailing fleet of the inlet enabled visitors to enjoy cruises (8:07). For a more thrilling ride, speedboats were available (8:26). A few miles from the boardwalk, on the Black Horse Pike is the racetrack sponsored by the Atlantic City Racing Association (9:25). The Atlantic City Tuna Club (10:25) was the largest in the world with a membership of 1,400. Fishing in the bay or in the deep sea, could be enjoyed from spring to fall (10:36). Men along the shore enjoy surf fishing (11:56). Heading back to the boardwalk, rides at amusement parks entertained children and parents alike (12:07) at the Steel Pier. At the end of the pier, is an outdoor stadium for the water circus (12:38). Along with everything to do and see, there were ample opportunities for relaxation (13:38). The old Absecon lighthouse had once stood near the beach, yet now rested on land built up from nature over the years (14:18). Another landmark is the Elephant Hotel (14:28) aka Lucy the Elephant. Many visitors became residents in the city's residential neighborhoods (14:37). Several golf courses existed in the mainland year round (15:27). Atlantic City’s Convention Center cost $15 million and was the largest in the world. It hosted the Miss America Pageant (16:05). Mummers are seen parading through the streets (16:05) and the winner of the pagent will be announced in the Convention Center (18:06). This has been a Reid H. Roy Film Industry Production (18:53).

Atlantic City Resorts Suite 5111
Last week we spent 3 days (2 nights) in this beautiful suite at the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, directly on the Boardwalk.
Staying at the Resorts is tricky - you can end up in a really bad room, and your vacation will be miserable. It really depends on the staff member at the front desk. I was lucky this time (and slowly I am learning how to pick the right person). This suite is in the Rendezvous Tower.
Don't be fooled by the floor # though! They start counting at 33! So this is really more like the 20th floor rather than the 51st! The Revel is by far the highest building in AC, and their top floor is the 48th!
If you pay attention, towards the end of the video you can see the Trump helicopter on the heli pad next door at the Taj. Of course The Donald was not there, he is not the owner of that casino (nor any other!)
