Countdown to 100: The Indiana State Parks Centennial Celebration Launch for Indiana State Parks kicked off at McCormick's Creek State Park with remarks by Indiana DNR Director Cameron Clark, State Parks Director Dan Bortner and Frederic W. Lieber, great-grandson of Col. Richard Lieber. Col. Lieber was the founder of the Indiana State Park system. McCormick's Creek is Indiana's first state park. In west central Indiana hides a state park gem, a landscape out of place in the cornfields of the Hoosier state. Fern covered cliffs, canyons carved out by glacial melt water, waterfalls and wildlife. No background music necessary for this early morning hike, as nature provides the soundtrack.

Early on the morning of October 8, 2014 the Earth passed directly between the sun and the full moon. The subsequent shadow caused a total lunar eclipse and blood moon. The skies were clear over the Native American village at Prophetstown State Park and offered an excellent view of both the eclipse and sunrise soon after.
