MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 27TH, 2019, Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery

Bob Navin, National Guard Veteran of the 45th Oklahoma Infantry, Videographer, captured the unique collection of photos, artifacts, lined up on the North side of the Boulder Chapel, following Sunday's Memorial Service. Every year, we bring a collection of mementoes, items to portray both Cathy's reverence for Military Veterans and a love story which spans 53 years. Cathy met her fiancé, David Le Roy Bell in 1966, after arriving in Hawaii as a Military Dependent. At that time the young military dependent was enjoying the change from living in New Mexico to living on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. I met David that summer. We went to dances and the prom. I was in the 10th grade and David was a Junior, at Radford High School. There were Navy community centers for the military dependents, dances, scavenger hunts, study classes. Soon, Cathy and David fell in love; and, by March 69, planning their wedding.
David enlisted at he end of his Junior year, so they could be married. Cathy had got an after school job at a local hamburger stand to help make money for their future marriage.
David was home on Christmas, Dec 68, prior to heading to an Military Assignment in Germany. From there, he went to Ninth Tusan, South Vietnam. David worked in Maintenance and planned a leave in March so they could get married. Weeks before the marriage, I received the letter, Cathy, I'm so sorry. David was killed on Valentines Day when he stepped on a landmine. I, along with another soldier were spared. David's strength and stature, and everything he learned as a Radford football athlete led him to quickly push each of us away from him, pushing us to safety. Before he died he said, remember our promise if something happened to one of us. Please write Cathy and tell her I Love Her.
He had also sent me a photo with an inscription, which said, Please never forget me. Not only has Cathy, 53 years since meeting David not forgot him, but put this memory and love for this veteran as a heart- mission to do what she can to remember our beloved veterans, to appreciate them, to thank them. I have a beloved, deceased Dad who served in WWII, a lot of uncles who were veterans of that War. I have an older cousin who was a Korean War Veteran. I even have sent letters to representatives and President Bush about helping our beloved veterans.
Today, after giving veterans around the world the 9-11 Poem-Prayer, I Saw His Face, it was carried in the Washington Memorial Day Parade by President of the Blue Star Mothers, Melissa Clipper, NV4 Chapter Henderson and Boulder City.
This poem has been read by Cathy for veterans at Military Memorial Services when requested.

He is also the Henderson Municipal Chief Judge. I was both humbled and honored to talk with this Marine Veteran, Honorable Judge Stevens. The Memorial Service, Sponsored by Purple Heart Veterans, Chapters' 711 and 730 did a great job today as they held a beautiful and healing ceremony at 1 P.M. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A Special Thanks to Chuck N. Baker, who was the Master of Ceremonies. Chuck N. Baker is a Vietnam, Combat-Wounded Purple Heart Veteran, an Author, a Journalist, the Chapter 711 Historian and much more. He also is the Host of a Radio Talk-Show, called That's America to Me. This show can be heard on 97.1 on Sunday mornings at 7 A.M.
