2019 AT Hike: Fun Things To Do at Front Royal, VA, on a Zero Day
There are many notable trail towns along the Appalachian Trail, where a hiker can take time to relax, resupply, visit an outfitter, wash clothes, have a shower, and eat some town food. Front Royal, Virginia is definitely among the best and most hiker friendly.
Upon completing our Shenandoah section hike, we decided to spend a little time here and what a great time we had.
First stop was the Front Royal Visitors Center. Be sure and stop in to say HI. If you're an AT hiker, they will stamp your passport and they even have a nice little gift bag for you. From here you can take the Front Royal Trolley, (50 cent fare), to just about anywhere in town including the trail head at Rt 522.
Although it may appear from the video we spent all our time drinking beer, we actually enjoyed visiting a variety of different places. Some of those places are listed here:
Base Camp at Front Royal -- Offered to hikers through the generous support of Front Royal
Brewing Co, Mountain Trails Outfitters, Vinova Tapas & Wine Bar, Down Home Comfort
Bakery
Front Royal Brewing Company -- Delicious food, friendly people, live music, and Great beer
selection
Front Royal Terrapin Station -- Hiker Hostel & Shuttle Service
Front Royal Visitors Center -- Where it all begins
Golden China Restaurant -- Daily All you can eat Buffet at a reasonable price!
Mountain Home B&B -- Hiker Friendly and just off the trail at Rt 522
Mountain Trails Outfitters -- Well stocked and friendly
River & Peak Outfitter -- Well stocked and friendly
Virginia Beer Museum -- Fun combination of a love of history and great selection of beer & cyder,
Cheers!
Warren Heritage Society -- Friendly and Informative, featuring the community's historical society,
museum, and archives with a good gift shop
Warren Rifles Confederate Museum -- Exhibits here include memorabilia of Belle Boyd, Mosby's
Rangers, Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis
and others, together with arms, uniforms and historic
documents
Thanks for watching!

District 3 is one of 16 districts in the state that represent Virginia Little League. The District Administrator and staff work as volunteers to provide assistance to the 15 leagues that comprise District 3. Their basic mission is to support each local league in adhering to the principles and rules that govern Little League Baseball and Softball, and to manage all district level post-season tournament play.

Some History about Baseball in Front Royal...
(Per Wikipedia)
How Bing Crosby Stadium got its Name:
Bing Crosby helped raise funds for the building of the original stadium by arranging for his film Riding High to have its world premiere in Front Royal on April 1, 1950. Crosby's initial involvement came about on April 30, 1948 when after acting as grand marshal of the Grand Feature Parade of the 21st. Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, Virginia, he went on to Front Royal where he sang on the courthouse steps as part of a concert to help raise money for a new stadium. Bing was the first contributor to the Front Royal Recreation Center Building Fund when he donated $1,000. On April 1, 1950, Front Royal celebrated Bing Crosby Day and starting at 11 a.m., Crosby led a two-hour parade through the streets in front of a crowd of 20,000 to Recreation Park for the dedication of the baseball stadium. Park Theater was the venue for the official world premiere of Riding High at 8:30 p.m. where Crosby entertained the audience with several songs. During his appearance at the Park Theater, Bing wrote out a personal check for $3,595 to bring the gross receipts of the day to $15,000.
Another Interesting Fact:
In 1953, Frank Nesbitt coached a Little League team from Front Royal which came in 3rd in the world tournament. Freddie Moore was one of the players on that team, and later became active in Front Royal Little League. After Moore died of cancer one of Front Royal's Little League fields was named in his honor.

[Cafe Mozart] HISTORIC GERMAN SAUSAGES - Washington, D.C.
[Taste the World Cuisine in U.S.A.] - Germany Episode
Please subscribe to our channel! More videos are coming soon! ????
We love Cafe Mozart from its historic background to the German Deli in front of the restaurant, to their food! Love the little details in the restaurant, especially the music decorations everywhere, the piano, and the symphony music background that they play at the restaurant.
You would never expect a fine restaurant/bar is behind the German Deli when you walk into the store. This restaurant was open since 1981 and you can probably tell its age from the furniture as you walk in.
We are not familiar with German beer, but this one that our server suggested us - Pilsner (she said it's a light drafted beer) was very delicious and it went so well with our meal! Highly recommend it if you've never had European beer or are not a big beer drinker.
We ordered one of the most popular dishes here, the sausage sampler. It came with sauerkraut, red cabbage, and potato salad. We loved every bite of this sampler. Their bratwurst sausages were delicious, slightly garlicky and not too salty (sometimes sausages/hot dogs are too salty). We especially love their Weisswurst (white sausage). We could taste a hint of lemon/citrus in it and the red cabbage went very well with all the sausages. Have to also point out their potato salad - pieces of sausages or ham added extra texture to the potato salad.
We also ordered the Viennese Schnitzel and we chose chicken. Viennese schnitzel is the original breaded deep-fried thin slice of meat. They have veal, pork, and chicken options. Our chicken schnitzel was fried just the right amount - nice and crisp on the outside and very tender on the inside. We had potato pancake as our side. It paired perfectly with the sour cream and apple sauce. The potato pancake was light and crispy, and it did not feel oily or heavy at all (even though it's carb!). We loved it, especially with the sweet apple sauce.
We went there on a Sunday afternoon and missed their live music that is performed Tuesday-Sunday from 6 pm. Will definitely be back next time for their music. :)
Parking: Cafe Mozart is located in NW Washington, D.C., just less than 10-minute walk from the White House. It did take us a while to find parking, but we made it. Parking could be a challenge depending on when you go there.
Surrounding area: Again, it's in downtown D.C., just a few blocks from the museums and the White House. Not a bad idea to take a walk after your delicious meal if you have time!

What Matters Warren - British Soccer Camp Challenger Sports
Front Royal Soccer Association brought British Soccer Camp to Front Royal last week!
Front Royal was host to Challenger Sport’s British Soccer Camp last week July 31-August 4. Kids had a great week learning from four great coaches Dan Delahay (Wales), Adam Howells (Wales), Emmett Woods (Ireland) and Fraser Rennie (Scotland). Players learned new moves, worked on core skills and built confidence while playing scrimmage games World Cup style. Customs and cultures from North Korea, Turkey, Madagascar, Abu Dhabi, Iceland and China were researched and shared by camp team members.
Coaches got to explore Front Royal a bit while not out on the fields. Thank you to local businesses who helped welcome these young men to Virginia. They enjoyed fish and chips at Element, ice cream at C & C, beer tour at Virginia Beer Museum, pedicures at Touche Nail Salon and caught a beautiful sunset on Skyline Drive.
Jennifer Avery and her family hosted the coaches this year. For more information about the experience feel free to contact her at jen@whatmattersw2.com or 540-683-0790. Great opportunity!
