10 Things to do in Bratislava, Slovakia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
We're visiting Bratislava, Slovakia and in this video we're going to show you guys 10 things to do in Bratislava. Let's get started.
Our first stop was Devin Castle, which is located in Devin, a borough of Bratislava. This is the one attraction we visited that was a little further from the Old Town - a 30-minute bus ride.
Devin Castle is a ruined castle that sits on Slovak territory at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers.
We ate at a restaurant called “Modra Hviezda” which is located at the base of Bratislava Castle and feels like a cave.
Bratislava Castle was Built in the 9th century and modified over the centuries many times over, this 4-towered castle sits perched on a hill overlooking the Danube River.
You get nice views over the Old Town, plus you have the Slovak National Museum & the Baroque Gardens on the north side of the palace.
The following day, we set out to explore the Old Town and stopping cafe for a decadent breakfast.
Bratislava’s Old Town is compact & easy to explore on foot and cover most of the sights in one day. We went on our own do-it-yourself tour finding all sorts of interesting statues & landmarks.
The Blue Church is located on Bezručova Street, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Old Town designed in the art nouveau style.
Locals in Bratislava like to say that the best view of their city is from the UFO Bridge because you can’t see the UFO bridge. You get amazing views of Bratislava during sunset.
And while you’re down by the Danube, you can either enjoy a stroll along the river, or go on a sightseeing cruise.
Prašná bašta is another cozy restaurant located at basement level and we had another wonderful meal.
For sports fans be sure to check out a HC Slovan Bratislava ice hockey game. They play in the KHL and the level of hockey and entertainment value is fantastic.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bratislava. While we can see the appeal of doing this as a day trip from Vienna, we loved having the extra time to really enjoy the city, try out some great restaurants, and make it to some of the further attractions like Devin Castle. If you have a few days to spare, this is a great little capital to visit.
Any other things to do in Bratislava that we may have missed, feel free to share your suggestions with travellers in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Slovakia video series showcasing Slovak food (Slovakian food), Slovak culture (Slovakian culture) and Slovak cuisine (Slovakian cuisine).

5 Days in Bratislava and Slovakia Day 3 with Surviving Europe (SnapChat)
Day 3 in Bratislava, Slovakia was all about Devin Castle, Thai food and NEON Festival! Devin Castle is just 15 minutes away from Bratislava and can be reached via car, bus OR a 2-hour hike. It is one of the most unique castles we’ve seen and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. For lunch, we discovered Green Buddha which is literally the BEST Thai food we’ve ever had (the chef stuffied in Thailand). And then we danced the night away at NEON Festival, an electronic music festival right in the city. Day 3 that was fulfilling in every way and here’s our Snapchat recap!

A Day Trip Well Spent || Bratislava || October
We took the train from Vienna to Bratislava for a few hours. They are, geographically speaking, the two closest Capital cities. The Old Town was pretty great. Car free zone and the souvenir shops sold some cute/quirky things.
The Most SNP (Most Slovenského národného povstania or in English the Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising) is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge to have one pylon and one cable-stayed plane. Just a bit of fun bridge trivia for you. You're welcome.

Bratislava Castle, Slovakia 2016 - Danube view, garden
Bratislava Castle (Slovak: Bratislavský hrad, German: Pressburger
Schloss, Hungarian: Pozsonyi Vár) is the main castle of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The massive rectangular building with four corner towers stands on an isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathians directly above the Danube river in the middle of Bratislava. Because of its size and location, it has been a dominant feature of the city for centuries.
The baroque garden which is being re-built at the castle will be an exact replica of the original one which existed from 1778 to 1780, the Parliamentary Office – which administers the site – wrote, as quoted by the Sme daily on April 13. The photos taken recently show a lot of concrete surfaces fenced off by a massive wall.
The Danube, Bratislava to Vienna By Boat
As a river city, Bratislava offers tourists a variety of ways to ride the river. This activity generally starts in April and ends in October, and really picks up in the summer months.
Most of these involve tourist boats, which give you the opportunity to relax with friends over light refreshments, watching the scenery float by. Some specialty cruises also include live music or other entertainment.
The Danube provides an unforgettable way to get to places you wanted to see anyway. Boat tickets are only a bit more expensive than car or public transport (22 Euro) -- with no parking fees or extra transport, since the boats stop within walking distance of Old Town. Service generally starts in April or May and ends in October each year.
•Vienna is easily reached by river for a day trip in less than two hours each way (see below for details on schedules).
•Closer destinations, such as Devin Castle near Bratislava and Hainburg in Austria, are less than an hour's ride (daily except Mondays in summer).
•Budapest is a bit further, so boat travellers there usually plan to sleep over in that great city, or make train or other arrangements for the return trip (daily from spring to fall).

Going from Vienna to Bratislava was an experience I expected but long anticipated, from graffiti in the streets, to stronger language barriers, to the fantastic nightlife. After arriving at Bratislava hlavná stanica, I walked towards the city center to my hostel, about 1 block from the center. The one thing I loved about this city is that it is easy to navigate. And better yet, you can see much of the city highlights in just one day. After getting settled in my hostel, I walked up to the Slavin War Memorial that commemorates the many Soviet soldiers that died during World War II. From there I took a tram to the infamous Bratislavsky Hrad / Bratislava Castle for gorgeous views of the whole city, Most SNP, Petržalka, and the Danube River all during sunset. From there I crossed the Staromestská ulica into the old city center, where you get a taste of the towns history within the fortified walls. Walking down the many cobble stoned alleys, grabbing a Slovak meal, and climbing to the top of the Michaels Gate / Michalská brána for even more views of the city. A few hours later I took the 93 bus from Hodžovo nám across the Danube to Petržalka to take a ride up to the Most SNP UFO, an observation deck with 360 degree panoramic views of Bratislava, Petržalka, and much of the Austrian border. Below the roof sits a nice loungy restaurant where I had a delicious Slovak beer enjoying views of the Castle and city center. After more relaxation at the hostel, I set off to a long desired club experience at Subclub, a former bomb shelter turned nightclub below the Bratislava Castle deep in the ground of Bratislava. It was this very experience that made me work hard on trying to see Bratislava during the weekend. As a life long lover of EDM music, house and techno in this bomb shelter did a lot of justice during my stay. AMAZING EXPERIENCE.
Next day was an interesting one as I made a dedicated attempt to see a castle in the Village of Beckov, Slovakia. After missing one train, I got on the wrong train leaving me lost in the wrong town for about an hour. After getting on the right train with some help from a local, I found my way to the right city, only to find out that the bus service to the castle did not run on Saturdays. After being approached my a lady who at first was helping me understand this bus issue, she then tried to lead me to a hotel and when that failed, she insisted on having her son pick us up and take us there. With my options running low and all the obstacles I had faced, and the cost of a taxi ride there and back, I decided to head back to Bratislava. I made a venture to a castle that is much easier to access, Hrad Devin / Devin Castle, ruins that sit on a rock overlooking the Austrian border and the village. After I headed back after a long day, enjoyed yet another good meal and brew at the hostel restaurant before a final night walk through town and to my favorite bomb shelter club for my favorite music, Drum and Bass.
Next day I woke up early and set off for the Czech Republic. I not only loved Slovakia for its bomb shelter night club and beautiful landmarks, but despite the mishaps I faced, I still came across fantastic, friendly, and warm locals throughout my stay. As for budget travel, Slovakia was by far the cheapest and most budget friendly Europe destinations I've been to so far. I shall return Slovakia.
