A Walk Around Voss, Norway - 2007
Voss is a fascinating town in the county of Hordaland, Western Norway and lies between the Hardanger fjord and the Sognefjord. This walk in late August 2007 starts at the Fleischer's Hotel, on the E16 Evangervegen, alongside the Vangsvatnet lake. Voss jernbanestasjon (railway station) stands adjacent to Fleischer's and is on the line from Bergen to Oslo, seen here in late afternoon and early evening. Rising from the railway line is Hanguren, reached by a cable car which provides the superb views of the town below. We see many of the buildings on Vangsgata and Uttrågata (the two main roads through Voss Sentrum), including the church (Vangskyrkja)and the Vosso river. After a long overnight train ride from Oslo, my friend Eric Kiraly and I arrived in Bergen, Norway for the start of our 10-day bicycle tour with Active-Norway.com. During the first day of the bike tour we ate breakfast in our hotel, picked up the rental bike Eric would be using for the duration of the tour, and then took a train to Voss, Norway and checked into the Fleischers Hotel, which is where we ate dinner and then spent the night.

VOSS - the heart of Ski Fjord Norway
VOSS is situated in the middle Fjord Norway, 1,5 hours by car from Bergen. Surrounded by the two major fjords, Hardangerfjorden and Sognefjorden, the town has about 14.000 inhabitants, a nice village centre and two ski areas.
At VOSS you will find two ski resorts, VOSS RESORT and VOSS FJELLANDSBY, which are only a 20-minute drive from each other. They are the biggest and most easily accessible ski centres in Fjord Norway, with good ski schools and long histories of welcoming guests.
