The next stop on my journey from Lisbon to Paris is Porto.
I loved staying in Porto! From the wine to the beauty of the city I fell in love. I would recommend Porto to anyone traveling to Portugal.

Porto Portugal GoPro Video
The first stop of our 2018 Euro trip was in Porto (Oporto), Portugal, where we spent two days. We cruised the Douro River on a traditional rabelo boat traditionally used to bring port wine from the valley to the port cellars, we crossed the Dom Luis bridge and enjoyed wine tasting with a Fado show at Calem in Gaia, we shopped and purchased antique Portuguese tiles, and we hopped on a tram, walked the old streets, and found the best view points. Enjoy our video :)

To gain all while you give,
To roam the roads of lands remote,
To travel is to live.”

The amazing city of Porto in Portugal / La increíble ciudad de Porto en Portugal
Wandervideo of the amazing city of Porto in Portugal - Wandervideo de la increíble ciudad de Porto en Portugal
It is the second most important city in Portugal and they have always had a rivalry, of which there is even a saying: Lisbon has fun, Coimbra sings, Braga prays and Porto works.
Any visit to Porto necessarily passes through the Ribeira neighborhood, the area on the banks of the Duero with its picturesque facades and its many restaurants with fresh fish. Porto is famous for being the origin of the Oporto drink, which is produced in the wineries that border the Douro River.
------------------

Portugal - Lisbon & Porto
Just a taste of what we did in Lisbon and Porto! If you ever get the chance to travel to Iberia, be sure to stop by these two cities! Experience the slippery cobblestone sidewalks, stuff your face with different kinds of Portuguese pastries and visit the old cathedrals!
We flew into Barcelona, Spain (way cheaper than if you fly into Portugal) via Iberian/Level airlines, celebrated New Year's Eve in El Gòthic and flew to Portugal the next morning via Vueling airlines.
We booked places to stay via Air BnB (best decision EVER!!! Highly recommend), with both places costing about $70-$75/night. We had entire 1-bedroom apartments to ourselves, with a couch in the living room that transformed into a bed, a kitchen and full bath. It was especially nice to have a kitchen - we got groceries from the nearby mini marts and cooked dinner a few times.
LISBON
- Carnival themed sardine store...FORGOT THE NAME! Sorry!
- Pastry/Bakery place was near our Air BnB, we just walked by but there are tons of these everywhere!
- @ 0:56, their famous egg tarts!!! You can also find these everywhere!
- Lots of shopping in the main touristy area. We stayed in Chiado, which was near a lot fo shopping and a two-minute walk from the famous Praça do Comércio (the yellow building, go at night and in the day!)
- Museu de Cerveja: Portuguese Beer Museum! It was 5 euros for a pint of beer and admission, cool little experience!
- CR7 restaurant: it was part of a hotel I think? But the food and drinks were good. About a two-minute walk from the beer museum
- Bars and Nightlife: the call it Pink Street where the street is literally pink - this is where we went since it was cold and misty, we didn't want to walk too far (be aware of the uphill and slippery sidewalks!)
- Fútbol: ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES EVER!!!! Go to a game if you can - we watched SL Benfica VS Sporting, two Portuguese teams, so it was super intense!
- MUST TRY: Cod pastries from Martinho da Arcada, one fo the oldest cafe/restaurants in the Praça do Comércio - since 1782!
- Time Out Market: reminded me of Anaheim Packing District/Grand Central Market in LA. Lots of eateries and cuisines!
- @ 4:19, we were on top of the famous Santa Justa Lift - an elevator that brings you to breathtaking views of Lisbon
- @ 5:49, SEAFOOD!!! WORTH EVERY PENNY! Go try the variety of mouthwatering sea creatures at Cervejaria Ramiro
As we wrapped up our last day in Lisbon, we go ready to board the train to head up north to Porto. Travel tip: book your train tickets at cp.pt AHEAD of time! No need for first class (unless you suuuuuper fancy) - we found that the Alfa Pendular was the nicest and fastest, I think? If you are traveling with large suitcases (we had one), get there early so you can store your suitcase in the suitcase storage area!
PORTO
- Tasco: a tapas-style Portuguese restaurant
- @ 6:47: Avenida dos Aliados
- @ 8:08: Livraria Lello - famous library in Porto
- Bars and Nightlife: Near the University, there are many bars, however, there are three streets, lined up with bars. Our favorite was W Black W. They played a lot of soul and RnB in the beginning, rap and hip-hop, and then Spanish/Portuguese toward the end. Travel tip: Bars do not get popping til midnight!!! So plan accordingly, however, we started early (around 7:30pm, and left around 2am...)
- Fútbol Round 2: FC Porto vs Victoria - also super intense!!!
- Sé do Porto: Famous cathedral in Porto and absolutely stunning!
- @ 9:34, Cross the Dom Luis bridge and experience the breathtaking view of Porto and the Douro River
- Ferreira Winery: the ONLY Portuguese owned winery left! Do the tour! Such an awesome experience!
- Last place we went for dinner: forgot what it was called /: but if you cross the bridge back to Porto, there are tons of restaurants along the river!
- @ 10:21, apparently this singer's name is Roy Kim and he's really famous in Korea. Well we stumbled across this crowd as we left dinner - super cool!
MORE TRAVEL TIPS
- Porto is wayyyy colder than Lisbon, so bring layers!
- The train system is super efficient, so be on time!
- Taxis are cheap, if you ever need to use one
- In the major touristy areas, pretty much everyone speaks a little English
- Eat as much pastries as possible!
- HAVE FUN!!!
