A Day at WADI HANIFAH in Riyadh
Wadi Hanifa, is a valley in the Nejd region, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It runs for 120 km from northwest to southeast, cutting through the city of Riyadh.
So, this is yet another vlog on last Friday with one of our close friends, Umesh, Sarika and their two lovely kids. It's a beautiful place to visit for the Riyadhizans.

Riyadh River & Lakes: Wadi Hanifah
Rodd tours the Riyadh River, which is a byproduct of the Riyadh waste system composed of gray water (cleaned sewage), in Wadi Hanifah, south of Riyadh near Al Hair.
He starts at the easiest access from the highway, and follows the river into Riyadh Lakes, which is part of the Al Hair parks and lakes district. Finally, Rodd inflates his packraft and takes to the water in his small boat.

A Day at WADI HANIFAH in Riyadh

We sadly visited when the Wadi was mostly dry but it did not spoil the experience. There has been a lot of work done on infrastructure here there are dozens of stone built seating and barbecue family areas all facing the Wadi. An excellent place to spend family time.
Its a way of getting away to a quiet peaceful placs away from the noise of the city. Great to take the family and just relax or walk around
he road that is inside the wadi let you travel from one side to the other in a smooth way. There are nice public places where you can stop and spent some time open-air. It is recommended to avoid the hottest seasons.

In ancient times, the wadi was known as al-Irdh Its current name is derived from that of the Banu Hanifa, the principal Arab tribe in the area at the time of the Islamic conquest of Arabia.
In pre-historic times, rain fell heavily in the region. This is reflected in the local folk tradition that claims that during the reign of the ancient kingdom of Al-Yamamah, the area was once covered with oases and fertile farmland. God became angry and visited a plague of locusts and drought that the land never recovered from. Modern climate studies would likely show that the local catastrophe was actually the effect of global climate changes. Ongoing and future changes could bring higher precipitation levels back to the region.
