Galicia Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Galicie in Spain.
Our journey through romantic northern Spain travels south through Galicia along the Atlantic coast. A Coruña is the region’s largest industrial city and shipping harbour and it thought to have been founded by the Phoenicians in 60 A.D. The Romans conquered this harbour city that has always been associated with the sea and it was from A Coruña that the invincible Spanish Armada set sail in1588 to invade England. Santiago De Compostela is the capital of Galicia and since the Middle Ages it was, apart from Jerusalem and Rome, the most important pilgrimage destination in Christendom. Half a million pilgrims came here each year from all over Europe and Spain’s most religious city continues to attract the faithful. Some centuries ago each of the large villages of the Rias Baixas prospered due to fishing, as did Pontevedra. However, all this changed when its harbour was engulfed by sand some three hundred years ago. In contrast to Spain’s many other harbour cities, the old town of Pontevedra is almost the same now as it was in bygone times with cobbled streets, intimate squares and the residential palaces of the city’s former elite. Across a huge chain bridge that spans the mouth of a deep river is Galicia`s largest city, Vigo. Its name is of Roman origin and it is believed that Vicus Spacorum was the starting-point of Caesar’s campaign against Britannia, as well as a storage area for his Empire’s oil, fish and wine. For many centuries A Guarda, ‘the Female Guard’, has watched over the river border with Portugal and in the wooded mountain city of Monte Santa Tecla the Celts established a settlement that contained more than a thousand buildings that dated back to the 6th and 3rd centuries B.C. and formed part of a prehistoric settlement. Throughout the centuries life in Galicia was not representative of that in the rest of Spain and both Romans and Moors considered it to be too remote for their interests. Maybe that’s what makes it such a special place to be!

Silver Whisper City Tour Of A Coruna, Spain
We've been on a port-intensive cruise since departing Southampton last week on Silver Whisper. Each day, we've enjoyed some memorable tours, with only one sea day to rest, and that was on the first full day of the cruise.
So when Silver Whisper docked in the city center of A Coruña on Thursday, we chose a tour that allowed us to sleep in and get a good overview of the city.

La Coruna, Spain Destination Guide - Cunard
Named the 'Crystal City' because of the glass-enclosed balconies which adorn the tall apartment buildings facing the harbour, La Coruña is a mixture of old and new. A must see highlight is Santiago de Compostela, which is home to the magnificent Santiago Cathedral. Alternatively the Old City provides fascinating sights or you may choose to relax on a leisurely coach tour of the local area which includes Europe's oldest working lighthouse.

14 Things To Do in La Coruña, Spain
La Coruna, the home of legends such as Pablo Picasso and Hercules, is a beautiful historic city located on the Atlantic shore of Spain, in the region of Galicia. The legend says that Hercules himself founded the city in memory of a woman he fell in love with, named Curnia.
La Coruna offers a wide range of historic sites, activities, restaurants, attractions, and beaches.

1. The Tower of Hercules (00:52)
The Tower of Hercules in La Coruna, Spain is the oldest Roman lighthouse in use today. Legend says the tower was built on the body of a Giant Hercules defeated after a battle that lasted 3 days. The Tower, built on a 57 meter high rock, rises a further 55 metres, and overlooks a beautiful view of the Atlantic ocean and the Galician mountains.
2. Palacio De La Opera (02:38)
Enjoy performance arts such as ballets, operas, modern dance, and theater.
3. Plaza Maria Pita (03:35)
The main square of La Coruna in front of the tower hall, with great restaurant and a story of a heroin.
4. RC Deportivo Soccer Team (05:35)
Watch a European soccer game of Deportivo La Coruna, a soccer team with a soul.
5. La Coruna Old Town (07:07)
Dated back the 6th century, the old town is the place to drink, eat, shop, roam around, and soak in Spanish architecture and culture.
6. Plaza del Humor (08:37)
A funny plaza where locals hang out and meet for drinks.
7. La Coruna Port (09:07)
Beautiful promenade to walk around and the stop over for the cruise ships.
8. Castle de San Anton (10:17)
The San Antón castle is a beautiful island fortress located at the entrance of the port. This castle was a means of defense which the people of Coruna heavily relied on. Throughout its history, the Castle has been a fortress, a governor's residence and a prison. Today it accommodates the archeological and history museum as well as a remarkable collection of silverware.
9. Termaria Casa del Agua (11:43)
Termaria Casa del Agua is a temple of relaxation. Varying temperature Salt pools., jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, sun decks, infrared red relaxation rooms. This is the perfect place to de-stress, relax, and charge up your batteries. Occasionally they will even throw parties.
10. Caracola Moncho Amigo (12:20)
A beautiful Conch like statue located in Punta Hermida park. Walking distance from the Tower of Hercules, this Conch statue is designed to make the Atlantic wind blow through the horn. Take a romantic stroll at the park, enjoy the Atlantic breeze, and take some cool photos.
11. Iglesia de San Jorge (13:57)
San Jorge Church is a sinister looking old church located in Plaza Marqués de San Martín . The cruceiro in the courtyard in front of the church is carved in a medieval style and is surrounded by 4 smaller pillars. Great location to take photos, especially at night.
12. Orzan Beach and Monte de San Pedro (14:57)
I highly recommend to take a hike or enjoy a leisurely walk on the beautiful sea-side promenades of La Coruna. A nice 8km hike starts with Caracola Monch Amigo conch statue. Walk through Hermida Park, Orzan Beach, Praia do Matadoiro (which translates to Slaughterhouse beach”), Explanada de Las Esclavas, the giant Obelisco Millenium statue, The octopus statue, and my favorite, “Window to the Atlantic” (
If you still have time and you are not fatigue, you can visit the San Pedro Mountain Park.
13. Santiago de Compostela (17:10)
Located one hour drive from La Coruna, Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and the final destination of the 1000km+ hike of the well-knows Camino de Santiago trail.
14. Hot Springs in Ourense/Orense (19:36)
Located on a volcano an hour away from La Coruna, Ourense is known for its hot springs. Great to relax. The one I visited is 30 minutes from the city.

[4K] CASCO VIEJO (OLD TOWN) BILBAO SPAIN WALKING TOUR
Take a walking tour through Casco Viejo (Old Town) Bilbao Spain. Starting at one of the famous bridges in Bilbao, I walk through the winding streets of Casco Viejo (Old Town) Bilbao Spain.
Info on Casco Viejo Bilbao Spain: Casco Viejo forms the medieval old quarter, a lively riverside district of narrow alleys lined with modern shops and traditional taverns. La Ribera market has food stalls in a boatlike waterfront structure, flanked by pintxo bars serving Basque tapas on sticks. Santiago Cathedral is a 14th-century landmark rising to a dramatic Gothic spire, and Teatro Arriaga draws well-dressed crowds to opera and dance performances.

Tour La Coruña province with a hired mini bus or coach
But La Coruna also has a real standout attraction. The old town of Santiago de Compostela is one of the most quaint in the whole country, particularly when you look down on the red rooftops from above. In the town is the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostella, one of the world's finest and the end point of the pilgrim's walk called Camino de Santiago. When planning a visit to La Coruña with a rented minibus or coach with driver check out

About La Coruña
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
This was my first time in La Coruña and I was pleasantly surprised! We got off around 9am and the port city was sleepy but mesmerising. There were ornate buildings, colourful flowers decorating balconies and heaving boxes of fresh strawberries. Which got me thinking... I'm hungry. Again.
So we headed to a small cafe called Momos for some morning Spanish tortilla. Cheap eat, delicious with a perfectly runny centre. Next stop: exploring. We 'ooh-ed' at the María Pita square, 'ahh-ed' at the Tower of Hercules and loved the sea view from the surrounding area before... you got it... we got hungry again.
I read online that La Bombilla was a great spot for tapas. Even better yet, each dish is only €1.10 so I tried caldo gallego (Galician soup broth), gazpacho, spicy sausage, ham croquettes and calamari before it was time to head back on the ship...
AND HAVE MY FAVOURITE DINNER ONBOARD. Not sure how I managed to fit in more food at this point but I managed it for Sabatini's - the onboard speciality Italian restaurant. I'll let the video do the talkin' but from cured meats, seafood pasta, lobster in three ways to an espresso tiramisu (and a bonus limoncello) - it was excellent. I slept extra well that night! Next stop... BILBAO!
Thank you to Princess Cruises for sponsoring this video! I'm still dreaming of the four course dinner at Sabatini's and drooling over that lobster main.. and ice cream stop... and the comfy beds...
