BANGKOK TO CHIANG MAI in One Week with STA Travel & Contiki! | Thailand Vlog
I went on the Thai Northern Highlights tour with STA Travel and Contiki which over 6 days took a group of 34 of us from the big city of Bangkok into the Jungle of Kanchanaburi and River Kwai.
Then we headed to the the UNESCO Heritage Site of Ayutthaya before getting on an overnight train from Ayutthaya to Chiang Mai.
One in Chiang Mai we we had 2 days exploring the city and temples, going to a cooking class, zip lining, muay thai fighting and to a lady boy cabaret show in Chiang Mai!
We did so much in a short about of time but this tour was so amazing! The standard of accommodation was fantastic- fancy hotels plus an a floating jungle hotel and a really comfy overnight train in Thailand.
Our tour manager Eb was brilliant as were the other guides!
I really recommend you travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai because it's such a great part of Thailand and shows a side very different from the southern islands and beaches, and I really recommend the Thai Northern Highlights Tour with STA Travel & Contiki!

Thailand's northern capital is an escape from the whirlwind pace of life of its southern rival.
Despite the constant arrival of planes and trains full of sightseers, the former seat of the Lanna kingdom is still blissfully calm and laid-back.
This is a place to relax after the chaos of Bangkok and recharge your batteries with fabulous food and leisurely wandering. If you don't want to participate in the vast array of activities on offer, just stroll around the backstreets, and discover a city that is still firmly Thai in its aspect, atmosphere, and attitude.
Nestled amongst forested foothills, Chiang Mai is much older than it first appears.
During the city's medieval heyday, almost everything was made of teak hauled by elephant from the surrounding rainforest, with the notable exception of its towering wát.
The monasteries still remain, centred on ancient brick chedi (stupas) in a remarkable range of shapes and styles, but the gaps between them have been filled in with modern Thai houses and traveller hotels.
Despite this, the historic centre of Chiang Mai still feels overwhelmingly residential, more like a sleepy country town than a bustling capital.
A sprawling modern city has grown up around ancient Chiang Mai, ringed by a tangle of superhighways, but if you drive in a straight line in any direction, you'll soon find yourself in the lush green countryside of northern Thailand.
A short ride by motorcycle or chartered rót daang ('red truck') will deliver you to pristine rainforest reserves, churning waterfalls, serene forest wát, bubbling hot springs and peaceful country villages – as well as a host of adventure camps, elephant sanctuaries and souvenir markets
The footage used in this movie is either my own personal footage , or official hotel footage to give you the very best impressions and info on these hotels.
This is NOT a paid promotion video, and I am not sponsored by any of the hotels.
Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe to keep up to date with the series.

“Hotel des Artists is well-known for its aesthetic and chinoiserie character. The hotel is just off the main road along the peaceful Ping river. The building first looked like a traditional Chinese shophouse that hid many stories inside waiting for people to come and explore. The staff quickly came to greet us as soon as we got off the car and helped us with our bags. We were directed to their reception which is very vibrant with bold colors and blooming flower motifs here and there… “

1) Chiang Mai is famous for its night markets. We suggest starting off at the Sunday Night Market which is best explored from Thapea Gate. From handicrafts to silverware and from souvenirs to silks, you'll shop until you drop. In my opinion, an even better thing to do at the market is to indulge in as much Thai street food as possible.
2) Elephant tourism runs rampant in and around Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, the well being of the elephants is rarely a consideration. Visiting the Elephant Nature Park, known as an elephant sanctuary and rehabilitation center, is somewhere you can go to interact with elephants knowing full well they are being taken care of and not exploited. A trip to the park is a memorable experience that is both incredibly fun and extremely education.
3) From the roof of our apartment building we had often had unobstructed views of Doi Suthep. It was only a matter of time before we decide to take a Songthaew up to explore it on foot. Although it is very touristy, it is still well worth a visit - especially for the views of Chiang Mai!
4) Few cuisines are more famous around the world than Thai food. While you're in Chiang Mai be sure to take a cooking class to learn how to make all of your favorite Thai dishes. An even better idea is to go to the countryside where you can have a more authentic and rural cooking experience.
5) Although I love the Sunday Night Market my favorite night market in Chiang Mai happens on Saturday. Possibly because it is only a stone throw away from where we lived in Chiang Mai, I just enjoyed wandering through the maze of people and shops to eat as much Thai street food as possible.
6) You can't visit Chiang Mai without trying its most famous Northern Thai dish - Khao Soi. Crispy and soft noodles float around in a coconut milk base with various vegetables. It's delicious and one of the cheapest meal options in the city!
7) When you have time - and a friend to go with - reserve a table at a restaurant that specializes in Khantoke sets. Served with sticky rice and a plethora of small dishes you'll get a real sense of what Northern Thai food is all about.
8) Wander around the neighborhoods outside of the city center. A big part of why Chiang Mai is so charming has to do with its various neighborhoods. Get off the beaten path and just go explore around. Here we show you our neighborhood, which is not far from Chiang Mai South Gate.

ISV Highschool Trip Thailand 2015 by by Dezire Films|Benjamin Johnson
===========READ=============
►So in January of 2015 me and a group of fellow students made the journey to Thailand as apart of an International Student Volunteers Tour. We spent 10 Days at Maekok Foundation volunteering and then 7 Days in Chiang Mai on our adventure tour.
The volunteering component of the trip consisted of us; teaching English to all of the children at Maekok every night, constructing a playground within Maekok, and constructing a playground at the neighbouring Akha villiage. The entire trip was life changing but i can honestly say that the volunteering component of the trip change me as a person, my eyes were opened and I could truly see things differently. I was awakened to hundreds of things that were unnecessary in life. I was made aware that the simplest of things can keep you happy for hours, I discovered that it is possible to live off of happiness and well, happiness is endless, we create our own happiness and that is what we should all live by.
The next component of the trip was the adventure tour or the sightseeing part of the trip. We ventured into the remote Lahu hill tribes way up in the mountains, where we spent a night under the stars, to then only the next day hike back down the mountain to one of the most peaceful places ive been. Lisu Lodge. It was the perfect mixture between relaxation and fun, it was cultured and insightful. The majority of the adventure tour was spent wandering the streets of Chaing Mai. We went to numerous night markets and got the privilege to visit multiple Buddhist temples. We even went Jungle Zip lining.
This a video that i filmed and edited following my travels. All i can say is that this video definitely doesn't do the trip justice and if you ever have the opportunity to travel with ISV id say definitely take it up. Hope you all enjoy.
The video was also entered into ISV's annual video competition and won thanks to all of my family and friends to whom supported the film and voted for it. I love you all.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Krittiya knows how to pull my strings - Rice field restaurant.
My wife doesnt always want to be in videos. She loves the positive responses we receive though. Constantly asking me how many subscribers do we have. But today she was happy that we had no plans that would involve video. But Then. She found a restaurant she wanted to go to, and it was a minimum hour and a half drive away. Suddenly she had a great video idea and we were set. There are two sides to every story, with the truth being somewhere inbetween. As I do the editing my truth rules. It was a great choice and I love the opportunity to drive outside the city on the weekends. So it was easy to convince me, a great idea.
The restaurant was strange in that it seemed to of run out of everything we wanted to order. Including the star being the smoked fish. I wonder if they had a large group for lunch. Luckily she ordered on the way for the smoked fish. The waitress still told us they were out, until we got a bit annoyed. They did come through and fill are order.
We weren't able to try their other specialties as they were out, but the fish was a star. Worth the trip just for it.Here is the link:

STREET FOOD IN THAILAND / NIGHT MARKET IN CHIANG MAI
One of the TOP THINGS to do in Chiang Mai is walk around and eat at some of street food, We think the street food in Thailand especially the night market in Chiang Mai might have to be one of the best night markets in the whole of Thailand, If not the WORLD
At the night market PLOEN RUEDEE in Chiang Mai you’ll find a huge selection of food to buy, for food lovers it's the best thing! so make sure you check it out...
Every night in Chiang Mai an entire street shuts down for a couple of kilometers, and the entire street is filled with things to look at, buy, and eat. Most of the food is set up in designated areas BUT the ONE to visit is PLOEN RUEDEE right at the end of the walking street.
