Wapsipinicon State Park is located on the edge of Anamosa in Eastern Iowa. This hike is from a June 2017 hike with my wife and daughter. A beautiful day for a 3.5 mile walk outside.

Small Town, USA (U.S. Information Service/Pathescope Company of America/Eurovision, 1957). 30 min. This documentary, intended for foreign audiences during the Cold War and housed at the Iowa State University archives, presents a pastoral view of a small town in the heartland of America--Anamosa, Iowa--dependent on agriculture for its existence. The film is pure Our Town, Iowa-style. We meet boys fishing, a storekeeper, the dedicated doctor, the newspaper editor, the county agricultural agent, farm families passing on a way of life from one generation to the next, a congregation with voices lifted in song, and residents celebrating July 4th with a parade and fireworks. Though rooted in reality, the film idealizes a rural Iowa way of life shown in numerous fictional films, even those made in much later decades when agriculture dominated the Iowa experience to a lesser degree.

Black Hawk Co. sheriff's deputies search for Rhonda Apfel
Two Black Hawk County sheriff's deputies spend Thursday searching the Wapsi River in kayaks, looking for a missing Waterloo woman. Rhonda Apfel, 47, was last seen May 27, near Dunkerton.
Her Harley Davidson was found near the Iron Bridge in the Bruggeman Wildlife Area, the key still in the ignition. Her boots, socks and jacket were also found nearby.
Deputies Joe Stafford and Lance Teisinger searched the river from the point where the bike was found next to the Iron Bridge to Cutshall Access on the Wapsi River in Buchanan County. They did this diligently and thoroughly, with Teisinger occasionally getting out of the kayak, and wading through the water.
