The French invasion of Russia in 1812, also known as the Russian Campaign in France (French: Campagne de Russie) and the Patriotic War of 1812 in Russia (Russian: Отечественная война 1812 года), was a turning point during the Napoleonic Wars. It reduced the French and allied invasion forces (the Grande Armée) to a tiny fraction of their initial strength and triggered a major shift in European politics as it dramatically weakened French hegemony in Europe. The reputation of Napoleon as an undefeated military genius was severely shaken, while the French Empire's former allies, at first Prussia and then the Austrian Empire, broke their alliance with France and switched camps, which triggered the War of the Sixth Coalition.
(The campaign began on 24 June 1812, when Napoleon's forces crossed the Neman River. Napoleon aimed to compel Emperor of Russia Alexander I to remain in the Continental Blockade of the United Kingdom; an official aim was to remove the threat of a Russian invasion of Poland. Napoleon named the campaign a Second Polish War (in reference to the First Polish War); the Russian government proclaimed a Patriotic War.)

President Vladimir Putin visited the village of Borodino outside Moscow on Sunday, to attend bicentenary celebrations of the 1812 Patriotic War.
As part of the celebrations, military history clubs from around the world staged a re-enactment of the Battle of Borodino, a decisive conflict between the Russian and French armies.
The president laid flowers at a monument to 1812 war heroes and gave a speech.
Our country has seen a number of wars and catastrophes in its lifetime. Still, only two of them have been named patriotic. They will be engraved in our memory forever. Both wars had a decisive meaning for Russia, Europe and the whole world. The two Great Patriotic Wars went down in history as a proof of unprecedented devotion of our people, who stood up for their country and granted it a status of a world power, he said.
Putin also awarded Mozhaysk and Maloyaroslavets with City of Military Glory titles.
After the award ceremony, the president met with the participants in the battle re-enactment, and visited the Borodino battle museum.

The almost unimaginable carnage of the clash between the French and Russian forces at the Battle of Borodino is brought to life in a 360-degree masterpiece of panoramic art in Moscow, Russia.
The 115 meters of canvas by Russian artist Franz Roubaud depicts the fighting in dramatic detail, attempting to bring alive the 1812 battle that raged between more than 250,000 troops and ended with an estimated 70,000 casualties.

今回でモスクワに訪れるのは２回目ですが、以前は街の観光やショッピングであまりモスクワの歴史博物館などを見学する機会がありませんでした。
しかし、僕もロシアにも色々と詳しくなり、歴史にも興味を持つようになったので、今回は色々と博物館をまわってみました。
ロシアの大体の博物館は館内の撮影が可能なので、たくさん動画に収めてきました!!
ネットでも情報の少ない、モスクワの博物館についてご紹介します。

Sep 4, 2012 Russia_Medvedev attends opening of 1812 war museum and monument
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev attended a ceremony on Tuesday to re-open Moscow's Triumphal Gate after restoration. He also met with specialists who were involved in restoring the monument.
The re-opening is part of bicentenary celebrations of Russia's victory in the 1812 Patriotic War against France.
Medvedev later inaugurated a Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812 at the State History Museum, and took a look round the exhibition.

Day 1: A short tour of the Moscow Metro
Excursion to the Bunker-42. A stronghold of resistance in the Cold War. The Bunker is 65 meters underground. You can see an imitation of a nuclear attack, as well as feel the anxiety and tension of a nuclear confrontation. We will visit Stalin’s office where you can take a picture.
Lunch. There is the most underground restaurant in Moscow in the Bunker-42, where tourists can try dishes from the menu of the Politburo of the USSR (lunch is not included in the price of the excursion and is paid separately $10-30)
The “Submarine” Museum
We will visit a real submarine, which was recently in service with the Northern fleet. A huge nine-meter submarine “Novosibirsky Komsomolets” was converted into a museum of the Russian submarine fleet and reveals all the secrets of the life of brave submariners. In addition to the submarine, the tour includes a visit to the landing boat.
Day 2:
The Memorial Museum on Poklonnaya Hill.
The world’s largest memorial complex dedicated to 26 million Soviet citizens who died in World War II.
Lunch at a fish restaurant (lunch is not included in the price of the excursion and is paid separately $20-30)
Exhibition of military equipment in the open air: a unique collection of all types of equipment from World War II. You can touch and climb many of the exhibits.
If you wish, you can visit the Church of Saint George, Memorial Mosque, Memorial Synagogue and Holocaust Museum
Day 3:
The Central Armed Forces Museum of the Russian Federation is the world’s largest military museum. More than 800,000 exhibits, banners, trophies, animation, prototypes.

The 1812 Battle of Borodino Panorama Museum in Moscow displaying a giant panorama painting of the battle with a full-size foreground.
The Battle of Borodino was a battle fought on 7 September 1812 in the Napoleonic Wars during the French invasion of Russia.
The fighting involved around 250,000 troops.
Napoleon's Grande Armée enjoying a substantial numerical superiority launched an attack against the Russian army, driving it back from its initial positions but was frustrated and fought to a stand-still thereafter.
Both armies were exhausted after the battle. Both sides have subsequently claimed victory. However, it was the Russians withdrew from the field the following day.
Borodino represented the last Russian effort at stopping the French advance on Moscow, which fell a week later, however allowing the French capture of Moscow may have been a pre-planned ruse all along.
The French had no clear way of forcing Czar Alexander to capitulate because the Russian army was not at all defeated.
Moreover, the Russian army continued to grow in strength receiving new supplies and reinforcements and, more importantly, maneuvered in such a way so as to block the French south-western retreat and channel the retreat and soon an all-out flight along the same much devastated route by which the Armee Grande had come to Moscow, denying them supplies and resulting in the ultimate near-total destruction of the French invasion following their flight from Moscow in October.
About ten to twenty thousand troops in all (including Napoleon) were able to escape Russia from what was an over 500,000 strong invading force.

STORYLINE
Builders in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius recently uncovered a grisly secret which casts a shadow over Napoleon's reputation as a great military leader who took care of his men. Although he won the battle of Borodino, Napoleon's Russian campaign and subsequent withdrawal was an obvious failure. But what is only just coming to light is the number of men he abandoned during a miserable winter retreat. Archaeologists and scientists in Lithuania are working to establish the real extent of the disaster, but hundreds of corpses bear testimony to the fact that more than 20,000 of Napoleon's followers were left to die in abject exile, hundreds of kilometers from their homes.
