Swim in the historic pools built by President F.D. Roosevelt as a place for therapy. Normally kept empty for preservation, the shallow pools will be filled with naturally warm spring water. Tickets to the swim may be purchased over the phone with credit card. Space is limited to 80 participants per session. Reservations are suggested. All remaining tickets will be sold first-come, first-served, based on availability. No reservation is secured until payment is received. 1.5-hour swim sessions begin at 10 a.m. Ages 6 and older. Video was taken on September 4, 2010 in between 90 minute swim sections. This is a fabulous way to dive into history - a very unique event! About 1 hour south of Atlanta, GA or 2.5 hours south of Canton, GA. After taking a dip in the 88 degree spring fed waters of this historic pool used to treat polio victims, including FDR, visit the Little White House where he died in 1945, the fisheries, Dowdell's Knob, where FDR sat for hours and BBQ'd, and the covered bridge in Woodbury about 10 minutes north of the Little White House. If you do all the above activities, it will fill a very delightful day, even enjoy a picnic break at Dowdell's Knob!

Warm Springs is a city in Meriwether County, Georgia The population was 478 at the 2010 census.

Warm Springs, originally named Bullochville (after the Bulloch family, the family of Martha Bulloch Roosevelt), first came to prominence in the 19th century as a spa town, because of its mineral springs which flow constantly at nearly 90 °F (32 °C). Residents of Georgia, particularly Savannah, began spending vacations at Bullochville in the late 18th century as a way to escape yellow fever, finding the number of warm springs in the vicinity of Bullochville very attractive. In the late 19th century traveling to the warm springs was attractive as a way to get away from Atlanta.[clarification needed] Traveling by railroad to Durand, they would then go to Bullochville. One of the places benefiting from this was the Meriwether Inn. Once the automobile became popular in the early 20th century, the tourists began going elsewhere, starting the decline of the Meriwether Inn.
In 1921, Franklin Roosevelt contracted polio. One of the few things that seemed to ease his pain was immersion in warm water, and while in said water to bathe and engage in physical exercise. His first time in Warm Springs was October 1924. He went to a resort in the town whose attraction was a permanent 88-degree natural spring, but whose main house was described as ramshackle. It is famous for the Little White House, where Roosevelt lived while president, because of his paralytic illness. He died there in 1945 and it is now a public museum. Roosevelt first came in the 1920s in hopes that the warm water would improve his paraplegia, at the time thought[clarification needed] to be the result of polio. He was a constant visitor for two decades, and renamed the town from Bullochville to Warm Springs. The town is still home to the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation (Roosevelt's former polio hospital) which remains a world-renowned comprehensive rehabilitation center including a physical rehabilitation hospital and vocational rehabilitation unit. The springs are available for public use as a bath/spa resort, but they are used by the Roosevelt Institute for therapeutic purposes.

The construction of the Daniel Fish Hatchery was let to the Lincoln Lumber Company of Kemmerer, Wyoming to build a 40’ X 50’ building with a cement floor and foundation containing 28 rearing troughs and 1600’ of wooden pipeline to deliver 180gpm of spring water. The cost came in at $5,803.00, and the project was completed in April 1918.
Throughout the years, the Daniel Hatchery has undergone significant renovations to keep up with new technology in fish culture, with improvement and being expanded in 1966 and again in 1999. The Daniel Hatchery and is one of the oldest continuously operating hatcheries in the state.
With two springs supplying approximately 2 million gallons of water a day to the hatchery at an average temperature of 46° F, the Daniel facility performs the important function of incubating and rearing various species of trout which include; brook, brown, cutthroat, golden and lake trout as well as splake, tiger trout and kokanee salmon. The Daniel Fish Hatchery participates in the statewide high mountain lake stocking program, Kokanee salmon and Golden trout programs. In addition to incubation and rearing, the Daniel Hatchery provides spawning, egg incubation, and rearing for one of Wyoming's native populations of cutthroat trout, the Colorado River cutthroat. Offspring from these broods are used for restoration efforts as well as for stocking in fishing waters throughout the state.
Another function provided by the hatchery is due to Daniels' cold water. Hatchery personnel are able to hold back, or slow, the growth of fish. They use this technique to provide small fish for helicopter, horse packing, backpacking and ATV stocking. Three dedicated Department personnel are stationed at the Daniel Hatchery and are responsible for the egg care, incubation, fish rearing, stocking, maintenance and operation of the facility, on a year round basis.

We went to a powwow called Sacred Springs Powwow in San Marcos, TX on May 1st. The kids really enjoyed the springs and we took some video of the creatures who live there. It was a beautiful location. Even though you can faintly hear the drumming in the background, I overlaid the video with a recording of my friends, Cindy Regan and Larry Salazar, playing their native flutes together. The recording was made on an evening in the third week of July, 2009 in San Patricio, TX. That's my baby girl in the photo at the beginning. She loves to put on her regalia and dance.

This place is on the top of my list to swim at. The water is really cold and refreshing and there is a deep hole/cave at the bottom of this spring. When you snorkel around it you can get great views underwater.
Tennessee Lake Sturgeon Reintroduction Program
Many state and federal agencies are participating in a multi-year program to establish a self-sustaining population of lake sturgeon in the upper Tennessee River system. This 2013 video shows US Fish and Wildlife personnel obtaining lake sturgeon eggs and milt from fish captured by Wisconsin DNR biologists from the Wolf River, how the eggs are fertilized and prepared for transport to USFWS Warm Springs National Fish Hatchery in Georgia, hatching, rearing, and marking small sturgeon, stocking them in the French Broad River near Knoxville, TN, and monitoring sturgeon distribution, growth, and condition in the upper Tennessee River. It was produced for educational purposes.
