Georgetown Washington D.C. Historic Neighborhood Commercial and Entertainment district
#georgetown
Georgetown is an historic neighborhood, commercial, and entertainment district located in northwest Washington, D.C., situated along the Potomac River. Founded in 1751 in the Province of Maryland, the port of Georgetown predated the establishment of the federal district and the City of Washington by 40 years. Georgetown remained a separate municipality until 1871, when the United States Congress created a new consolidated government for the whole District of Columbia. A separate act passed in 1895 specifically repealed Georgetown's remaining local ordinances and renamed Georgetown's streets to conform with those in the City of Washington.
The primary commercial corridors of Georgetown are the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, which contain high-end shops, bars, restaurants, and the Georgetown Park enclosed shopping mall, as well as the Washington Harbour waterfront restaurants at K Street, between 30th and 31st Streets.
Georgetown is home to the main campus of Georgetown University and numerous other landmarks, such as the Volta Bureau and the Old Stone House, the oldest unchanged building in Washington. The embassies of Cameroon, France, Kosovo, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Mongolia, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine and Venezuela are located in Georgetown.

Washington DC
Washington DC
Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. The signing of the Residence Act on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. As permitted by the U.S. Constitution, the District is under the exclusive jurisdiction of the United States Congress and is therefore not a part of any U.S. state.
The states of Maryland and Virginia each donated land to form the federal district, which included the preexisting settlements of Georgetown and Alexandria; however, Congress returned the Virginia portion in 1846. Named in honor of George Washington, the City of Washington was founded in 1791 to serve as the new national capital. Congress created a single municipal government for the whole District of Columbia after the American Civil War.
Washington, D.C., had an estimated population of 632,323 in 2012, the 24th most populous place in the United States. Commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's population to more than one million during the workweek. The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of 5.7 million, the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the country.
The centers of all three branches of the federal government of the United States are in the District, including the Congress, President, and Supreme Court. Washington is home to many national monuments and museums, which are primarily situated on or around the National Mall. The city hosts 176 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of many international organizations, trade unions, non-profit organizations, lobbying groups, and professional associations.
A locally elected mayor and 13-member council have governed the District since 1973; however, the Congress maintains supreme authority over the city and may overturn local laws. The District has a non-voting, at-large Congressional delegate, but no senators. The Twenty-third Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1961, grants the District three electoral votes in presidential elections.

WASHINGTON D.C. // We stayed at a Ritz-Carlton // Adventure 14
This week we went to Washington D.C. and finally got to stay at a Ritz-Carlton and experience what luxury customer service is all about. Despite the rainy weather, we were able to explore monuments and spend a few hours in museums. One of the best parts about visiting Washington D.C. is that it is FREE to explore all of the memorials, monuments, and Smithsonian museums. You can't beat that.
We were also lucky enough to find a super good deal at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City. I was blown away by the customer service and the kindness of the staff there. The Ritz Kids program was amazing and made the stay as fun for my kids as it was for us. The location of the hotel was another reason why it's a great place to stay when visiting DC. The metro station is right in front of the hotel and you are only 2 stops away from the stop close to the National Mall. Walk another block and you're right there. You can't beat that!!!
Washing DC is the perfect place for a family adventure and we HIGHLY recommend the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City for your next stay.
Thanks for watching!!

Washington DC in Winter
Washington D.C or District of Colombia is the capital of the United States and one of the most visited cities in the world holding around 20 million tourist annually. If you like visiting museums and monuments then DC is the city for you, and the best part is, most are free to enter. I recommend renting the electric scooters that are all around the city for a better view, they are super fun. However you can also get a Uber, Lyft or Taxi. The food here is amazing, there tons of variety and different culture styles, I used yelp to find the best restaurants. Also, there are food trucks that move around the main areas of the city, and their food is exceptional. There are many hotels to stay in, try to stay as close as possible to the museums. Overall this was a great trip that we all fully enjoyed and will most likely come back again.

Washington DC City Tour Guide .... a montage of photos and video clips
This video comprises photographs and short video clips covering my brief visit to Washington DC. I needed to give my body and feet a few days rest away from thru hiking the Appalachian Trail, Washington seemed to fit the bill.
It was perfect timing, my trip coincided with Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died serving the American country. This is a time to allow people to honor American veterans and famous Americans. The Memorial Day weekend also marks the beginning of the busy summer season and the Washington, DC region celebrates with family friendly events and special services.

Washington D C City Video Guide
WASHINGTON DC FORMALLY THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA .
Washington, D.C formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States founded on July 16, 1790. The U.S. Constitution allows for the creation of a special district to serve as the permanent national capital. The District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state and is instead directly overseen by the federal government. Within the District, a new capital city was founded in 1791 and named in honor of George Washington. The City of Washington, along with Georgetown and outlying areas within the federal district, were placed under a single, unified government following an act of Congress in 1871. It is for this reason that the city, while legally named the District of Columbia, is known as Washington, D.C. The city shares its name with the U.S. state of Washington located on the country's Pacific coast.
The District is located on the north bank of the Potomac River and is bordered by the states of Virginia to the southwest and Maryland to the other sides. The city has a resident population of 601,723; because of commuters from the surrounding suburbs, its population rises to over one million during the workweek. The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of 5.4 million, the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the country.
The centers of all three branches of the U.S. federal government are located in the District, as are many of the nation's monuments and museums. Washington, D.C. hosts 174 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The headquarters of other institutions such as trade unions, lobbying groups, and professional associations are also located in the District.
Washington, D.C., is governed by a mayor and a 13-member city council. However, the United States Congress has supreme authority over the city and may overturn local laws. Residents of the District therefore have less self-governance than residents of the states. The District has a non-voting, at-large Congressional delegate, but no senators. D.C. residents could not vote in presidential elections until the ratification of the Twenty-third Amendment to the United States
Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC
The Smithsonian Institution, also known simply as the Smithsonian, is a group of museums and research centers administered by the Government of the United States. It was founded on August 10, 1846, for the increase and diffusion of knowledge. The institution is named after its founding donor, British scientist James Smithson. It was originally organized as the United States National Museum, but that name ceased to exist as an administrative entity in 1967.
Termed the nation's attic for its eclectic holdings of 154 million items, the Institution's 19 museums, nine research centers, and zoo include historical and architectural landmarks, mostly located in the District of Columbia. Additional facilities are located in Arizona, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York City, Pittsburgh, Texas, Virginia, and Panama. More than 200 institutions and museums in 45 states, Puerto Rico, and Panama are Smithsonian Affiliates.
The Institution's 30 million annual visitors are admitted without charge. Its annual budget is around $1.2 billion, with two-thirds coming from annual federal appropriations. Other funding comes from the Institution's endowment, private and corporate contributions, membership dues, and earned retail, concession, and licensing revenue. Institution publications include Smithsonian and Air & Space magazines.
